QUOTE(newbzie @ Mar 25 2018, 03:25 PM)
Hi there

I plan to visit bangkok around mid july for 5-6 days
my plan is 2 days platinum shopping,
1-2 days mbk center,
1 day night market and super c market,
lastly one day to visit a nearby temple.

I plan on staying near the platinum mall hotels.

My questions are as follows.

Is it better for me to ask the apartment contact to arrange a taxi for me and my 2 friends or to use the airport taxi ?

Should I use grab or tuktuks as a mode of transport / travelling. I do plan on doing amazing shopping for both clothes , shoes , items , gifts and food. So my idea would be to walk there and then use either one of the two to get back.

Is MBK and Platinum the same? One colleague pushes for MBK while friends push for Platinum

Lastly i'll be staying in ratchathewi so is there anything good to visit culturally?

Thanks

1. never ever take tuktuk in thailand, its mostly a scam...just use taxi/grab
2. MBK is like a proper mall, platinum is all selling cloth on all floors...there are no other things there

2 days in platinum mall? really? o.O and why spend 1-2 days only in mbk center? there are other malls nearby like Siam discovery, siam paragon & siam center, or other malls like terminal 21, EmQuatier, Central World(opposite Big C Supermarket) that is easily accessible via BTS

i suggest you take out some of your time to visit more night markets/day markets

just use the airport taxis, in blue uniform if i recall correctly, you pay at the counter and they will arrange their taxi to fetch you, you might need to pay toll fees though, if not just go for the one that use meter. if they refuse to use the meter then just politely reject them and find another.

meter taxis are as cheap as grab, and never use tuktuk unless you're going for the one-time-experience-only ride because they are expensive

imo, you're spending too much time on malls. you should spend more time on markets like what darren has said.

i've never shopped at MBK so i can't comment on that, but don't put too much expectations on Platinum.

Yea u're right 2 days in platinum is kinda baka. I thought platinum would have crafts and others souvenirs , So i'm planning to press both platinum and a nearby night market together.

One day would be for MBK , i need to get back souvenirs and others crafts. Big C is definately on the list for food / snacks
there are quite a few malls near MBK , like Siam discovery as you mentioned and central world.

You're right on the day / night markets. I should take full advantage of the experience.

Thanks for the info on the taxi. Appreciate it.

I'm actually atm watching your vlog. thanks for the subtitles.

You're absolutely right , I thought platinum would have everything but it's only fashion.
MBK seems to be worth it much more with the wide array of choices.

Haha it took me only like max 3 hours for MBK. Siam Paragon - Siam Center - Siam Square - MBK - Siam Discovery all are in one place, so i separated them into 2 days. Central world and Big C can go on the same day as they are only opposite of each other.

Add in more markets like Chatuchak, Talad Neon, Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin and many more

This ain't fair ... now you've thrown me a curveball....
I didn't have any idea about chatuchak at all.....
Plus in Big C , did you have to buy the boxes or do they provide one? You did mention that cellotape one has to buy it.

i bought mine from hello1010, Malaysia travel sims seller. AIS sim card, about Rm33 (2.5GB+100Baht Calls) Comes in 3-in-1 SIM Card That Fit All Phones. Good experience. but it seems like they are out of stock right now on their website

sims will be couriered to you, when arrive Bangkok airport then just switch the sim.

If lazy to find under the hot sun just go to Pier 21 at Terminal 21. Huge food court. Everything there.
