Well these are mechanized troops, most of their firepower comes from the IFVs. Perhaps RPGs are more prevalent in normal infantry?

Donald Trump Won. Prepare For Uncharted Geopolitical Waters in Asia The election of Trump may herald the end of the postwar order. ![]() QUOTE First, in East Asia, one of the primary developments we can expect is the disintegration of U.S. alliances and a reversal of the momentum generated by the Obama administration through its “rebalance” to Asia. Japan and South Korea QUOTE Trump has explicitly complained that he feels neither ally pays their share for U.S. extended deterrence guarantees. This in itself, while a proliferation event reversing decades of U.S. nonproliferation policy, would also introduce the possibility of North Korea – the primary threat source in the region – reacting unpredictably. QUOTE Given the risk of proliferation in its immediate environs, Pyongyang may choose to exercise the ultimate “coming out” event by staging an atmospheric nuclear test, using a medium- or intermediate-range ballistic missile. QUOTE This scenario is still discussed as the most likely warfighting scenario for the People’s Liberation Army as of its most recent White Paper, and it’s easy to image in Trump a commander-in-chief wholly disinterested in expending American blood and treasure to deter Chinese aggression against democratic Taiwan. QUOTE The Trans-Pacific Partnership – the bell-weather for U.S. commercial interest in the broader East Asian region – would fail. Trump, with his opposition to trade, has promised to enact protectionists tariffs. As the United States starts to look inward economically, Southeast Asian states will naturally be drawn into China’s orbit. QUOTE Trump, given his disinterest in even-handed alliances, may choose to entirely push aside Pakistan. Tragically, the U.S. commitment to Afghanistan’s ongoing struggle against the Taliban insurgency would come to a swift end, leaving the country to fend for its own security. As the 2016 campaign demonstrated, Afghanistan has already been largely written off by the American public QUOTE Moreover, a Trump-led U.S. could choose to withdraw from international treaties and, in a more extreme scenarios, withdraw from the United Nations, leaving Asia and the rest of the world to fend from themselves. Overall, as far as great power contests are concerned, the United States would be likely to cede the Asian commons to Chinese dominance and hegemony. QUOTE Hillary Clinton, Trump’s opponent, represented everything that was familiar about the postwar U.S. view of the world. Trump, by contrast, represents pure id. The U.S. president-elect’s vagaries could unleash untold instability. TheDiplomat |

Chinese Supporter Club: Philippines' Duterte to talk security during Malaysia visit
![]() KUALA LUMPUR: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday evening (Nov 9) arrived in Malaysia for his inaugural visit. Duterte is scheduled to hold talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Thursday afternoon in Putrajaya, with regional security likely to top the agenda. ![]() One thing the leaders of Malaysia and the Philippines share at this moment is the perception that both are pursuing closer ties with China. Duterte and Najib made official visits to Beijing within weeks of each other, and returned with billions of dollars’ worth of deals with the Chinese. But as the two men meet in Kuala Lumpur, it is regional security and terrorism, not deals, expected to be high on the agenda. Malaysia and the Philippines share joint concerns such as piracy and kidnappings in the Sulu Sea - a waterway between their countries - and terrorism sparked by the rise of the Islamic State militant group. "My priority with regards to Sabah is Islamic State,” said Malaysian Defence Minister Hishamuddin Hussein. “The offensive in Mosul and Raqqa will have direct repercussion in the region, with returnees from Iraq and Syria possibly planning to establish an Islamic state in our region, especially in Sulu Sea. The trilateral meeting between Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia is ongoing and that's our core business." The three Southeast Asian states earlier this year reached an agreement to undertake trilateral patrols in their shared seas, following a spate of kidnappings involving Malaysian and Indonesian nationals. ![]() Besides the shared concerns, one issue that could prove testy is the Philippines' claim to the Malaysian state of Sabah. Kuala Lumpur maintains the ownership of Sabah has long been settled and it has sovereignty over it now. But Duterte has reportedly said he will pursue the claim. "Every new Philippine president will rhetorically try to raise the Sabah claim and so on,” said Oh Ei Sun, senior fellow at Nanyang Technological University’s S Rajaratnam School of International Studies. “None are serious about it because the fact on the ground is Sabah won't join the Philippines anytime soon." It is unclear if Duterte intends to raise the matter in his meeting with Najib but if he does, it is more than likely to complicate matters, not just for both countries but for ASEAN. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapa...it/3275862.html |

kenot, unless the ucavs is operated independent of MAF BMS network (which would be senseless for strategic equipment like those)
I always maintain this; I dun mind we buy china-made stuff as long as it's not a strategic procurement, like ATGM, manpads, lori 3 tan, etc |

Oil wars? UK’s most advanced warship secretly deployed to Yemen coast ![]() QUOTE Britain’s most advanced warship has reportedly been quietly deployed to the coast of Yemen in what experts claim is a bid to protect the vital Bab al-Mandeb strait – a key oil route. While the move has not yet been publicly confirmed, the Times newspaper reported Type 45 destroyer HMS Daring had been diverted to the area, which feeds into the Suez Canal. RT |

Aircraft Carriers, Submarines and More: 5 U.S. Weapons of War Donald Trump Will Make Great Again ![]() QUOTE When Donald Trump takes office as President of the United States on Jan. 20, 2017, the new administration will have the opportunity to reverse defense cuts instituted under the Budget Control Act of 2011—aka sequestration. QUOTE Navy’s attack submarine fleet is set to shrink from about 52 SSNs to 41 boats in 2029. The service is already short of submarines to meet the demand from combatant commanders from around the globe. The Pentagon, under the Trump Administration, should–at a minimum—implement the Navy’s aspiration to continue building two Virginia-class SSNs per year indefinitely. If possible, the Trump Administration should try to increase the SSN build rate to three boats per year. QUOTE The Trump Administration should accelerate the development and fielding of a new Penetrating Counter-Air air superiority fighter to replace both the F-22 and the F-15C Eagle. With the development of advanced Russian and Chinese fighters—such as the PAK-FA, J-20 and J-31—and powerful new air defense systems—such as the S-300V4, S-400 and S-500—the United States needs to move forward with developing next-generation air superiority capabilities. QUOTE the carrier air wings onboard America’s nuclear-powered Nimitz and Ford-class carriers are less than ideal to defeat the latest Russian and Chinese anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) technologies. While the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an excellent strike fighter, the Navy needs to replace that aircraft with a machine that has the range and penetrating capabilities to take on the latest A2/AD technologies—including anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles and air defenses like the S-400. Thus, Trump Administration needs to invest in a new long-range carrier-based strike and air superiority capability. QUOTE U.S. Army’s new M1A2 SEP v.3 Abrams might not remain the world’s dominant armored combat platform for long. The U.S. Army is currently focusing on developing upgrades for the long-serving Abrams, but service officials admit that they would ideally like to build a new vehicle from scratch. QUOTE Under a new Trump Administration together with a Republican-controlled Congress, there is an opportunity for the Army to develop a new tank to replace the Abrams. The National Interest |

Russia receives first Il-22PP Porubschik electronic countermeasures planes ![]() QUOTE Russia's air force has taken delivery of the first three Ilyushin Il-22PP Porubschik aircraft, featuring up-to-date jamming equipment capable of disabling electronics systems on enemy planes. QUOTE "The new equipment is capable of 'blinding' Airborne Early Warning and Control System [AWACS] aircraft," a source in the military-industrial complex told RBTH. "In addition to these, the Il-22PP Porubshchik effectively counteracts Patriot air defense systems." QUOTE According to the designers, the new Il-22PP Porubshchik can selectively disable enemy equipment using powerful interference while obstructing similar enemy means of electronic warfare. QUOTE "Before the electronic interference system starts, the plane scans radio signals in the area of its activity," RBTH's source said. "After the detection of frequencies on which enemy aircraft work, the aircraft's operator switches on interference in the desired range." QUOTE Electronic warfare systems are used not only as a means to "attack," but also to make units invisible to missiles during fighting. For example, the Mi-24 and Ka-52 combat helicopters in Syria are equipped with the Vitebsk and the President individual protection systems. "Electronic warfare systems integrated into the hardware can also interfere with missiles with optical and infrared homing and even deviate them from the original flight path," Dmitry Safonov, military observer for the Izvestiya daily newspaper, told RBTH. The capabilities of electronic warfare systems integrated into helicopters can be illustrated with similar radar protection systems against heat-seeking missiles. UPI |

Russia 'forces' Nato submarine away from battle fleet heading to Syria ![]() QUOTE Russia on Wednesday accused a Dutch submarine of trying to monitor its aircraft carrier and escort vessels in the Mediterranean, denouncing such manoeuvres as "dangerous". According to the Russian defence ministry, the Severomorsk and the Vice-Admiral Kulakov, two of its anti-submarine ships, had "spotted a submarine from the Dutch navy... which tried to approach the Northern Fleet's aircraft carrier group in the eastern Mediterranean." The Dutch submarine, which was detected by anti-submarine helicopters, was located around 20km from the Russian warships, it said. "The vessels followed its manoeuvres for more than an hour and forced it to leave the deployment area of the aircraft carrier's group," a ministry statement said. "These clumsy attempts to carry out dangerous manoeuvres in the immediate proximity of a group of Russian vessels could have had grave navigational consequences," it said. Middle East Eye |
