when i'm back from KL to KK
i've seen ppl handing over their passport on the malaysian IC/PASSPORT counter
even as sabahan, i'm not sure what the real policy is
*
Non-sabahan working in Sabah needs to enter Sabah using Work Permit on their passport. Else if we enter using IC we need to get out within 90 days. From the immigration dept records if we keep entering and exiting consistently, you will get questioned on your purpose of visit.

Hi all, will be making a trip to KK next week, with plans to head to Kundasang and Kudat. Planning to rent a car for the 2 of us, but a bit undecided on what car to take.

Friends have advised us that it's better to go with a 4x4 as road conditions can be a bit poor. Don't know how updated that advice is tho..

Also read above that others here have driven up with a Bezza or Saga before, so wondering if a 4x4 is completely necessary? Price difference is quite substantial, but I don't want to get the cheaper option just for the sake of saving some money, but having a terrible experience during the drive.

What's your take on this guys? Thanks!

I drove to Kudat with a Proton Exora and to Kundasang with a Mazda 3. No issue. A powerful car will definitely be more helpful in overtaking especially kundasang areas. lots of lorries and snail moving cars.

no issue for even axia(though need to press harder when going uphill)
when travelling towards north(kudat, kundasang), road conditions are nice
its travelling south that the road become like hell laugh.gif

If just 2 person, should be fine, I drove a rented Bezza to Tip of Borneo and also up Kinabalu Park, no issue, yes, your car might be slower than the rest, but hey, think of the money saved

Personally, I highly recommend a visit to Tip of Borneo in Kudat, although the traveling distance might be long, but the amazing view and crystal clear water made the journey well worth it. Due to the distance, you won't find a lot of China/Korean tourists crowding this place, mainly locals

rent car/own car/grab
grab is widely used in sandakan
if u arrive via plane thn rent car/grab only
for sabahan, they have the option to drive their own car
BUT its a very long and painful drive
