Hi guys,
I'm a college student, and like many do not have a lot of funds. I have been planning for months to sell on eBay to make money but after seeing NUMEROUS people online saying that they have been scammed by Paypal & eBay I have been quite worried and tensed. The scam involves buyers who abuse the seller protection 'Item not as described' case system, where the seller sends the right item to the buyer and then the buyer swaps it with something else, claiming that the item is defective/broken or completely different from what the listing advertised.

Paypal then 'forces' the seller to accept a return even if the listing has stated that returns are not accepted. And once the seller receives the wrong item, from what I have heard from numerous negative feedback, Paypal for the majority of the time favors the buyer over the seller, even if evidence was given and the buyer was the fraudster ! WHAT !?

Another scam involves the item not recieved scam where the buyer claims they have never received the parcel if the item does not have proof of delivery. Does Pos malaysia have any Proof of delivery system set up if I send overseas? I remember using flexipack but it only traced until Malaysia border.

After hearing this I have been thinking for MONTHS whether or not to sell on eBay or accept Paypal at all. But if I choose not to use eBay I believe I would be missing out a HUGE market.I may be able to sell on Facebook groups but if an international customers comes over and says he wants to pay by Paypal because there's buyer protection, and I refuse, I believe many people would not want to buy my items as they aren't protected by any buyer protection.People have also said that these fraudulent buyers usually target higher valuable items, especially trendy tech gadgets, until Paypal blocks them permanently.

My question is:
How do you guys deal with these fraudulent buyers, especially with "not as described" scams ? And what courier service is relatively affordable that provides Proof of delivery to avoid the "item not received" Scam ?

I would really appreciate your help, thank you !

yea eBay usually side with the buyer if they provide sufficient proof, though i think they will investigate the Item NAD case before allowing refund. if the buyer suspected of cheating the system many times, would likely get blacklisted too on eBay too.

so i guess it would be best to not sell anything that you can't afford to lose money over.

not sure Pos Malaysia tracking got extend to destination country or not, it may depend on which country. maybe try asking easyparcel.my if their partnered couriers got full tracking. but yea require proof of delivery would protect yourself in case of anything.

too bad we don't have something like GSP because it's easy for sellers in the US to ship worldwide, they only need to ship to US collection centre and if item damaged through shipping, both buyer and seller is protected.

PayPal is safer for the buyer because they can escalate to a claim if don't receive their item from seller, this is what the transaction fee for PayPal is for, so that buyer have some sort of protection. i would not recommend buying something internationally without using some buyer protection like PayPal.

Hi! I am new here. I would like to open a PayPal account.
I have look browse through Lowyat forum and I know that.
Firstly a debit or credit card is required in order to register to
PayPal. But I prefer to use debit card.

In 2007 0r 2009, I can't remember the dates. In order to get a
cheaper rates withdrawal. Any bank that is supported by PayPal
the setting can be edit from using debit card change to directly link
from a bank account.

But in 2014, I saw a thread in Lowyat forum now they limit the
options of certain bank accounts that can directlylink to PayPal.
So now, some banks only use debit card to top up PayPal but cannot
link directly from bank accounts and some certain banks can use a
direct link from bank accounts to PayPal.

One of the banks mention is RHB and they didn't tell about the specific
name of the other banks. I would like that feature which is the bank
account is link directly to PayPal. But that was 4 years ago.
I'm not sure the options settings is still the same or have changed.

So now the question is can you give me a list on what certain bank
can link bank accounts directly to PayPal as well as the highest successful
withdrawal rates and quality friendly top notched service?

Thank you.

Right now I am trying to register for BA Maybank for my Paypal..
But there's a lot of problem
For example;

In the registration Maybank form :

In the Declaration ..it says:
(2) I understand that the Bank reserves the absolute right to approve or decline this application as the Bank deems fit without assigning any reason.

Biodata Form
They ask source of income for unemployed people whether from spouse or parents.
I'm not married yet, so my income comes from my parents.
But both my parents are not working.

So what do I do?

Bank policy like that?

BTW, how your parent gives you money when they are not working themselves?
Bank wants to know for anti laundering reason

Why don't consider to apply BigPay card, better exchange rate, cheaper withdrawal, no background checking required, basically you get the prepaid card with Mastercard

Not sure if I should ask this in paypal or maybank thread, but lets say if I purchase something using paypal, paid it and cancelled the order, how long would it take to get my full refund? There's a refund status under my activity but my paypal balance is 0, and so is my maybank account.

p/s: my paypal is linked to maybank

Update: nvm, already got the refund money

Googling articles on paypal might get you better info on PayPal's practices than their official support.

Anyone knows how long it takes for paypal to confirm my bank ? I linked paypal with my RHB bank, but it has past 24hrs and the status is still "Checking", i can't transfer funds from my bank into the paypal balance.

In addition, when i try to link with my debit card, i cant send the code to verify/confirm my debit card, they prompted me to call RHB saying that my card has been rejected by issuing banK?
