I know and I don't need the DVD drive slot. I will pass it to replace my old DVD drive in old case. Yea need to remove the HDD card if I want to fit GTX 970 to my old case hmm.gif But tape HDD with cellophane tape macam not elegant lol

EDIT: Can put HDD in the DVD drive slot? I saw there's like 5 slots there hmm.gif and I plan to add 1 more HDD to my old rig  hmm.gif Remove HDD cage already dunno put where
*
Get 3.5" HDD to 5.25" bay adapter to put 3.5" HDD in the DVD drive slot.

Hi All, planning to upgrade my RIG (too expensive to get a new RIG now due to tight budget)

[Purpose] surfing/drama/movie/game

[Games & softwares that use frequently] steam game, diablo3, might play back WOW:Legion

[Budget] Around Rm1k if possible

Current RIG spec:

Asus P8Z68-V LX
Intel Core i5 2500
Asus Geforce GTX 550 Ti
Xigmatek PSU 600watts
Kingston ddr3 pc1333 4gb x2
WD HDD 1TB
Cooler Master ATX Elite 311
Benq 24 RL2455HM

Please advise whether any part i still can upgrade with this RIG?

Thanks,
*
Upgrade the GPU to RX470 4GB or GTX1060 3GB, both are priced below 1k now or top up RM 100+ for GTX1060 6GB (more worth).

Add a 120GB/240GB SSD when you have more money later to improve overall system responsiveness and shorten the boot time.

Hi everyone. Im currently build my mini itx rig. Im using asus z170i for mobo and evga gtx1070 ftw. This is my first time build an itx setup. Ive heard that itx mobo easily getting bend when using standard gpu size. Is it true? Im using phanteks evolv itx case
*
You mean the PCIe slot? Don't worry it is very durable biggrin.gif

The real cause is the card, either too heavy or too long and causing slight "bending" or "flex", it should be ok because the PSU shroud of this chassis is very close to the GPU which can act as a "support" to the card.

QUOTE(agourklas @ Sep 19 2016, 04:57 PM)
thank you for your fast reply. do you have any suggestion for a better one? also if i buy another gtx 960 to add wouldnt it do the trick and cost less??
*
GTX960 2GB price now is around RM 850 (more or less), SLI doesn't provide 100% perfect GPU scaling so you might end up getting extra 50% boost only (this is different for each games). Another issue is the VRAM, 2GB is barely enough for any games now even in 1080p, do remember VRAM will stay the same even in a SLI setup unless the games you play support VRAM stacking in DX12 (none available currently).

GTX1060 3GB is just slightly above RM 900 now, which provides twice the performance of your current GTX960. By going for this path, you don't have to worry about the performance of SLI, or whether the games support SLI or not, the only thing you need to worry is the VRAM.

Higher end single card is always on top of the "buying" priority when you compare it with weaker cards in SLI. Real life example, RX480 on CF vs GTX1080, AMD claimed that RX480 on CF can beat GTX1080, yes this is true, but not entirely true though, it is true if only raw performance is involved and with perfect scaling, but how many games out there have perfect or near perfect scaling? Only few titles, like AC: Unity and Crysis 3 sweat.gif

It is cheaper to get RX480 CF (RM 1300 x 2 = RM 2600) compared to GTX1080 (RM 3000), but the power consumption will be much higher, 300W vs 225W (just a raw peak estimation, not reflecting to real life power draw). I am not going to mention the requirements on mobo and PSU since you already have them.

My suggestion is sell off your GTX960 (probably can get back RM 500+) and get GTX1060 6GB/RX480 8GB.

Hi guys, my cousin just increase his budget around 3.5k-4k

[Budget] RM 3.5k-4k

[Purpose] Workstation, designing banner and poster

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] PS, AI, AE, and some DotA and CSGo, maybe some AAA games, but most of the time will use the rig for work purpose

[Preferences] The best spec for current budget

[Location] Yik Foong Complex / Perak IT Mall

I don't have any hardware price list from Yik Foong Complex & Perak IT Mall (if you want to get it there then I cannot help with the price) sweat.gif

[Budget] MYR3000

[Purpose] Video / Photo editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] monitor, kb & mouse

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] adobe photosop, lightroom, premier

[Personal preferences] as long as portable.

thanx in advance.

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1289
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 315
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 312
Palit GTX750Ti 2GB GDDR5 StormX OC - RM 488
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
Corsair VS450 - RM 162
CM Elite 110 - RM 159

Total: RM 2934 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

The dedicated GPU included is only useful if you enable GPU acceleration in Premier Pro, you can remove it if video editing is not the main priority, SSD addition will boost the speed of the rig in terms of overall system responsiveness and shorter boot time.

If you need the rig to be even smaller, you can consider other chassis like RVZ02/01 (console alike).

First time builder here and may i ask if these parts are fully compatible with each other

MOBO : Gigabyte H170N Wifi
CPU: Intel Core i3-6100
GPU: Gigabyte GTX1060 Mini 3G
RAM: Corsair value ram 2133 8gb x1
PSU: Seasonic s12ii 620w

1. I've done my research where ram is supported by the mobo, the question is will it support the ddr5 that is in the gtx1060? and since the mobo supports PCI-E 3.0 x 16, it should work right?
2. Since entho supports full size psu with 212mm clearance, 140mm on the seasonic should fit right?
*
Not recommended to pair i3 with GTX1060, some (not all) CPU demanding games will show bottleneck (GPU can't fully unleash its power due to slow CPU).

1. It will work.

2. Yes.

Thanks, i just read abit those GPU is PCI-Express 3.0 but my mobo is only 2.0. can it be use?

also what if i'm able to top up till 2k, what new RIG that able to get with that price?

Thanks again. blush.gif  blush.gif
*
PCIe is backwards compatible, what you get from 3.0 is more bandwidth, 3.0 card will work fine in 2.0 slot (or 1.0) but with restricted speed, but it should be fine since both cards aren't super high end cards which require that high amount of bandwidth yet.

If you have 2k budget, I suggest you to find used i7 3770 (around RM 750+/-) and get a new GTX1060 6GB instead, not worth to invest in a new 2k rig, the performance gain compared to the upgrade of your existing rig is low/poor (or even at negative side, which you gain nothing but lose even more).

Thanks for the advise, like that i will stick to your previous suggest getting the new GPU and later SSD.

1 more thing, the brand does matter right (for example 1060 i saw got msi, asus, palit, zotac etc)

i might try get the gtx1060 6gb if able to as what you suggest. biggrin.gif
*
Brand doesn't really matter, for example, if you are getting GTX1060 6GB, it will still be the similar chipset even you get another brand, the differences are just the cooler design (including card design), clock speed which can be adjusted manually as well since it is not locked by manufacturers and warranty (after sales services).

If you are on a limited/tight budget, just get the cheapest variant available, the extra RM 100 (or more) is not worth to spend/invest in return for few extra FPS/lower temperature nod.gif

[Purpose] Gaming (specifically for the game Cossacks 3 which releases today)

[Hardwares that will be re-use]None

[Monitor resolution] 1920x1080

[Location] KL. Planning to get full set from Idealtech for convenience sake.

Just need to recommendations on some specific parts such as on the CPU, Mobo, CPU Cooler whether necessary, GPU

CPU: i5 Skylake
CPU Cooler: Necessary?
Mobo: Please recommend, cheapest is ok too.
GPU: GTX970 or GTX1060 for Cossacks 3? I reckon GTX970 should be good enough for FHD Cossacks 3.
Ram: Any standard 8GB Ram
SSD/HDD: Probably a Samsung 120GB 850 Evo + WD 1TB HDD
Casing: Fractal R5 or anything similar. Need a quiet and low maintenance casing with magnetic or easy to remove and clean dust filters
PSU: Any Seasonic/equivalent 550-600W PSU to recommend?
Monitor: Probably a 23-24inch Dell monitor

Will be getting the entire set from Idealtech.

Thanks!
*
Idealtech pricelist doesn't have GTX970 anymore so I assume it is already EOL'ed.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 835
Gigabyte H170-HD3 - RM 489
GSKill Aegis 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 169

Guys, Idealtech recommend me the following

INTEL CORE I5 6400 - RM 775
ASUS B150 PRO GAMING - RM 537
G.SKILL AEGIS Series 8GB DDR4 2133mhz - RM 169
GIGABYTE GTX1070 WINDFORCE OC 8GB - RM 1999
XIGMATEK SHOGUN 600W - RM 349
PHANTEKS ECLIPSE P400S - RM 349
WD 1TB Caviar Blue - RM 219
DELL 24" SE2417HG - RM 559

Total - RM 4886 (RM70 rebate)

My budget is around RM 4.8k. Need some comment from you guys. Is the motherboard good for future proof? (i dont plan on doing any oc though). Between Gigabyte Windforce and Palit Jetstream, which one do you think is better?

Sorry for asking many questions as this is my first build.

Previously bro terrence recommend this:
*
RM 537 for a B150 chipset mobo is too "overpriced" for me, I would go for low end Z170 or high end H170 with such price tag.

Gigabyte Windforce has higher clock speed than Palit Jetstream, though you can manually overclock the Jetstream to match what Windforce is offering by using tuner app.

And about the PSU, I have no idea why Idealtech keep on pushing it to users, it is a non modular PSU which is priced at ridiculous price, Seasonic M12II EVO 620 (tier 2) or Superflower Leadex Gold 550W (tier 1) both are much better choice, spend your money wisely.

hi asking for a friend here. he recently ordered a gtx 1070 rig and he wants to match it with a 1440p monitor but he's not sure what to consider. thanks
*
The cheapest 1440p monitor in Malaysia is Dell U2515H, which costs RM 1400+, if you (or your friend) want to save money, you can search Garage Sales for used unit or get imported set from South Korea (there is a seller helping to do this), the monitors there are much cheaper.

Dell U2515H - around RM 1400+
Dell U2715H - around RM 2000+
Dell U2717D - around RM 2250+ (new model)

Acer Predator XB271HU - around RM 3100+ (with GSync 144Hz)

and many more.

Thanks for your reply bro terrence.

Since windforce and jetstream price are the same, i think i will go with the former. What is the difference between b150 n h170? And what motherboard would you recommend that is good for future upgrading? My budget is rm400-450.
*
Chipset difference, for Intel Skylake Desktop SKU, there are 4 mainstream consumer grade chipsets which are H110/B150/H170/Z170. As for the difference, you can search online (better than my explanation I suppose laugh.gif )

And for your "future upgrading" term, it contains a lot of definitions, if you mean CPU upgrade then the max upgrade for the current LGA1151 (socket) mobo is Kaby Lake (7th gen, coming soon next year), if you want to upgrade to 10nm 8th gen then you have to upgrade the mobo as well (different socket).

As for RAM upgrade, just try to get a mobo with 4 RAM slots then you should be fine (max 16GB x 4 = 64GB). SSD/HDD relies on SATA ports, 6 to 8 ports should be enough.

There are 3 main form factors, ATX, mATX and mITX (search online for the differences if you are clueless on them). Idealtech suggested an ATX sized mobo to you and if you want to maintain in this form factor, the best price/performance ratio ATX mobo would be Gigabyte H170-HD3 (less than RM 500).

Some yes, in fact they are the OEM for many brands out there.

Hydro G is one of their best PSU (tier 1 in the chart).

I prefer Razer for my gaming equipment. (Chrome or All set in green)
Hard disk, whtever brand will do. 1 or 2 TB will do.
Graphic card, I want to play latest game. As long as can support then fine.
Processor, hmm....I7 can do within the budget? If cant, just cut to I5.
Monitor, any brand will do. as long as the budget hit.
Power supply, motherboard, totally no idea. Please advice.

What else I missed, please let me know.

So it is for Dota 2 and CS:GO only? (Assuming yes for the below build) If you plan to play other games, especially triple A titles at higher settings then please consider getting a better GPU (either top up/remove SSD/get a cheaper chassis etc.)

NZXT S340 Razer chassis isn't cheap, you need to sacrifice a lot of components to fit it in the budget (for low/mid budget rig).

Thank you very much for the replies. Seriously very much appreciate it.
My budget is around RM 2K, I quoted this build from one of the shop nearby my place.
Initially the VGA was ZOTAC GTX 750 Ti 2GB DDR5 (Single Fan) but then I thought of just upgrading the VGA itself to GTX1060 with its existing specs.

Is it possible to get a GTX1060 desktop with RM 2K budget ?
*
Depends on the games you play, but most of the latest titles are pretty CPU demanding, I suggest to get i3 (min) to reduce the bottleneck as much as possible.

No point squeezing every component in a tight 2k budget when you cannot even fully utilize its potential right?

Based on your available budget, if you were to get the cheapest 1440p monitor (even though it is better to get 27" for 1440p), it would cost you around 1.5k, left 3.5k for the rig.
