Hi guys,
long time reader, first time poster here.

I have a 3-years old semi decent Rig which can run current AAA titles at low-medium settings.

Currently im planning to upgrade part of it (mainly GPU and maybe add water cooling).
Can the otais help recommend me what to get? Thanks! (Budget around MYR 1,000~ish)

My Rig Spec.

MotherBoard: Asustek B75M-A
CPU            : Intel i5 3330 @ 3.00GHz (Stock cooling fan)
GPU            : AMD Radeon HD 7700
RAM            : 2x4GB DDR3 Corsair 800MHz
PSU            : Templarius Imperator 750W (80 Plus Silver)
Case            : CM 690 (Old case, Around 8 Y/O)
PS: My GPU might be dying soon, hence the reason for upgrade.
PSS: I have to ask here because im scared if i cincai pick newer parts it would be incompatible/bottle neck with my current rig.
*
It's either RX470 4GB or GTX1060 3GB with your budget unless you top up a bit for GTX1060 6GB (Palit Dual or Zotac Mini).

As for cooler, just reuse the stock cooler, primary your budget in GPU upgrade instead.

Guys what's the cheapest speaker with an optical input? Sorry for asking here, it's the only place I come to if I have a hardware question.

Try to ask in Audiophiles.

[Budget] Around 3k

[Purpose] For work, gaming and illustrator/photoshop

[Hardwares that will be re-use] PSU, monitor, casing, keyboard, mouse and speakers

[Monitor resolution]

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Frequently uses photoshop/illustrator, MS office programs and CS GO

[Personal preferences]
Intel Core i5 6500 / 6600
GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 (SOCKET 1151)
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
Seagate 2TB Barracuda / WD 2TB Caviar Blue (for data storages)
CM Hyper 212X
VENGEANCE LPX 16GB DDR4 2666 (8GB x 2)
GIGABYTE Radeon™ RX 470 G1 Gaming 4G

Not sure if this is ok to run the above mentioned. Hopefully it can last me for at least 7-8 years? like the one i am using now which is dying by parts LOL!
*
If you play CS:GO only then you can save more on the GPU, GTX950/RX460 is more than enough and focus more on the CPU part like getting an i7 instead of i5.

between GTX950 and RX460, which one is much cheaper ? or they are on the same price, and which one do you recommend ?  sweat.gif
*
Depends on which brand you are getting.

HIS RX460 4GB is the cheapest RX460 now, RM 599 only, most of the shops in Lowyat Plaza are selling it now.

Otherwise Palit/Zotac GTX950 2GB is slightly cheaper than Sapphire/Gigabyte/XFX RX460 2GB/4GB.

If only for Dota 2/CS:GO, just get the cheapest one, they barely make a difference in games (in terms of frame rate in 1080p).

There's other games too but because my current setup can't play so I did not download other Steam games to try out lol.
*
If so then I suggest you to go for cheaper mobo like H170/B150, you don't need a Z170 when you aren't going to overclock the CPU.

Change to performance RAM to value RAM then dump all the remaining money in the GPU (GTX1060/RX480 at least) nod.gif

QUOTE(fhydd @ Sep 7 2016, 01:44 PM)
Hi thanks for the reply terence.
Mind asking whats the difference between Gigabyte RX 470 G1 4G and Sapphite Nitro+ RX470 4G?

The place im looking at offers both with price difference around 10-20 ringgit. And trusty google searches came back useless haha.
*
Both come with similar chipset, so that's only cooler design and clock speed difference. Sapphire Nitro comes with slightly higher factory overclocked clock speed but G1 version is nicer in my opinion (just my preference tongue.gif ). Either one will work fine, just don't overspend on a 4GB RX470 because GTX1060 6GB can be bought as low as RM 1128 (Palit Dual Fan), if you use voucher code in Lazada/GemFive, it can be even lower (subject to stock availability).

QUOTE(ms749 @ Sep 7 2016, 02:11 PM)
On the motherboard right, what is the best option if I wanna get the HDMI mobo?
And if I were to choose Phanteks Eclipse P400 instead of Tecware F3, would that add any advantage to the performance? Or should I spend the extra money elsewhere?
*
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4), remember to use the display output port of your GPU and not mobo itself, if not the dedicated GPU will be wasted because the graphics/display will be routed through the iGPU instead of dedicated GPU, if you don't know about this then most likely you aren't aware of the "useless" display output port(s) of the mobo for gamers yet, they are pointless for those who have dedicated GPU, only show their usefulness when dedicated GPU is dead or you want to do some troubleshooting jobs etc sweat.gif

Casing doesn't add performance, what you get is different design/look and airflow (which indirectly alters the temperature if airflow is not the same).

My suggestion is to spend the money in somewhere else first, Tecware Alpha is a decent high airflow casing, hardware > aesthetic for beginners.

Do you mean that I should use both internal and dedicated GPUs concurrently? (Would it increase the performance somehow?) Is it better for me to only run the dedicated GPU? And save the internal GPU for back up?
*
No, I meant if you have a dedicated GPU then just use the display output port from your dedicated GPU, modern mobo will switch off the iGPU since it serves no purpose on desktop PC with a dedicated GPU installed (we don't need battery saving feature like laptop).

So it doesn't matter whether your mobo comes with HDMI port or not since you gonna use the HDMI port of your dedicated GPU, no? hmm.gif

That just proves how noob I am!  blush.gif

Btw thanks for clearing that up! So in summary, if I ever need to use HDMI, just plug it into my GPU output. Thank you boss!!  notworthy.gif
*
Yes, you can even use adapter/converter if the GPU doesn't have HDMI port, i.e. DVI to HDMI adapter.

QUOTE(DesktopLimousine @ Sep 7 2016, 09:19 PM)
What do you guys think about these 2 cards? Im in dilemma of choosing these 2 cards. Please help me out hahaha

1. Asus gtx1070 Strix OC 8GB

2. EVGA gtx1070 FTW ACX 3.0
*
Asus Strix OC is more expensive than EVGA FTW, same goes to clock speed and memory speed, your call.

Since you put these 2 cards in your consideration list, then I don't think budget would be an issue anymore (few hundred more expensive than the other brands), so just pick the one you prefer (warranty, after sales services, design, aesthetic purpose like theme/color etc).

AFAIK, Idealtech, DotaTech, ETech they all do have Maybank installment plan, interest rate might apply though.

[Budget] Around 4.5k (can stretch to 4.7k)

[Purpose] Heavy gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Mouse

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] ROTR, Witcher, GTA V, Assassin's Creed

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 835
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 446
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 151
Palit GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 Super Jetstream - RM 1265
Samsung 750 EVO 250GB SSD - RM 315
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
Superflower Leadex Gold 550W - RM 409
Phanteks Eclipse P400S - RM 349
BenQ GW2470H - RM 469

Total: RM 4448 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Different color is having different price for the casing, I am using the base price as reference.

Your budget can fit GTX1070 (Palit Dual Fan, RM 1899) actually but you need to drop the SSD to cover up the money for it.

QUOTE(DesktopLimousine @ Sep 8 2016, 05:12 AM)
Thanks for the respond! For design, it doesnt really matter. Im enthusiast gamer and like to overclock to get higher fps, so I need a better cooling system and quieter. For warranty and after sale services, I heard that asus worst in it.
*
Better cooling + quieter, this is hard to please tongue.gif

The default fan curve is quiet (70% RPM at 70C only sweat.gif ) but cooling isn't that good compared to self-modified fan curve, but of course that's gonna create more audible sound, I am willing to exchange for more performance with the audible sound though since the music sound from my speaker will cover up the sound of the hardware eventually.

Hi, considering the specs above.

a) Please recommend me a mobo (best value)? MATX will do.
b) Considering either Tecware Alpha or Corsair Carbide Spec 01? Or have better suggestion?
c) Any changes required, to get the best price / ratio?

Thanks.
*
2 RAM slots - Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4)/Asus H110M-K
4 RAM slots - Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4)

Tecware Alpha has better airflow.

If budget is tight, go for a cheaper SSD (Kingston UV400/Samsung 750 EVO etc.), it can save you RM 100+/- in just the SSD alone.

QUOTE(DesktopLimousine @ Sep 8 2016, 03:38 PM)
Well, I sleep with my computer on for the rest of the night downloading some stuff hahaha. I think im going to take EVGA FTW
*
Most of the Pascal (I believe all) cards come with 0db feature, meaning the fan won't spin when the temperature of the card is below a limit (60 as standard), so leaving the PC on overnight won't generate anymore audible noise from the GPU cooler anymore biggrin.gif

Hi again.
Just wondering,
HDMI vs DVI vs VGA. which one is better? i read vga is not recommended at all, benq gw2470h have only vga and hdmi connection
*
VGA is using old school analog signal and the signal can be affected by many external factors like cable quality.

DVI and HDMI (DP also) are using digital signal naturally.

HDMI is more preferred in TV industry because it supports HDCP feature. Another thing to be noted is the resolution and refresh rate support, dual link DVI supports 144Hz (1080p) while you need HDMI 1.4 for 144Hz (1080p) and so on, this isn't important for you because your monitor max refresh rate is 60Hz (but you overclock it to 7x-ish).

So in conclusion, use HDMI instead of VGA port of your monitor since it doesn't come with DVI port at all.

Hi, previously i saw you suggested someone with the below:-

"Intel Core i5 6402P - RM 707
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 276
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 145
Palit GTX950 2GB GDDR5 StormX - RM 609
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
Corsair VS450 - RM 162
TP-LINK TL-WN722N USB WiFi - RM 45
Tecware F3 - RM 125
BenQ GW2470H - RM 469

Total: RM 2747 (ETech price inclusive of GST)"

In which his requirement was only Dota2. If I am only looking at minimal gaming (Dota2 - which only looking at the medium video setting instead of max setting).

Would it be fine to go without GPU (GTX950)? Just use Intel's HD 530. As I only using mostly on movies and surfing net. Minimal dota2 (medium setting will do *with decent FPS)
*
Please upgrade the CPU to at least i5 6400 if you want to game on a stronger iGPU (HD 530), i5 6402P is using the weaker HD 510.

QUOTE(DesktopLimousine @ Sep 9 2016, 03:50 AM)
Should I go with the samsung PRO 850 or just grt samsung EVO 850? Does the differences noticable?
*
Hard to notice the difference in real life usage and it is way overpriced for the PRO version, I would spend a little bit more on NVMe SSD if I were to get the PRO version laugh.gif

I think I googled as i5 6500's GPU lol. okay means :-

1. it is workable if only Intel's GPU.
2. HD 510, can assert my need (medium setting of D2 - since not very GPU demanding)?
3. HD 530, can assert my need (medium setting of D2 - since not very GPU demanding)?

Cause I was thinking since for now I not require any extensive GPU yet. Maybe keep a slot for future upgrade (if any).
*
If we use Nvidia GPU as reference,

HD 510 is between GT710 - GT720.

HD 530 is between GT730 - GT740.

Medium settings in Dota 2 should be able to yield 50+ FPS (1080p).

Hi, need some rig recomendation

Budget] 5.5K

[Purpose] Video editing and moderate gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] none

[Monitor resolution] would like 4K

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Gopro studio

No need SSD & prefer core i7 &  GTX 1070 (if can)
*
So you need a new monitor and would like to board the 4K UHD train? Impossible to fulfill all requirements if this is true sweat.gif

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1289
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 276
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 151
Palit GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 Jetstream - RM 1848
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware Alpha - RM 199
Dell P2415Q UHD - RM 1859

Total: RM 6019 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

The build list contains all the cheapest parts available in the market already but it is still over your budget sweat.gif , so you need to "downgrade" your requirements, I suggest you to go with normal 1080p monitor for now.

Medium 50+ is for HD 530, I personally tested it last year (yea I know it has been a while sweat.gif), Vulkan Dota 2 build might improve the performance but I haven't had time to test it yet.

So HD 510 is expected to be able to run at lower settings with playable frame rate.

Hello all. I would like some suggestion to make a new rig for me. My 9 years old laptop just KO.

Budget 3k-3.5k

Desktop only as I have a extra Sony Bravia TV that has hdmi support

I am going to use it for surfing, watching 1080 videos, and occasional gaming (not necessarily to get high fps in ultra setting, med setting will do on latest AAA games), most of the time I would like to play league of legends in full setting and high fps if possible)

No preferable brand nor casing.
I prefer it's function VS price quality.

Thanks in advance.

If OS boot only then 60GB SSD is enough, but 60GB is nowhere to be seen in the market now due to massive price drop on 120GB SSD sweat.gif

Kingston UV400 120GB is not a bad option, price is around RM 160+/-, good enough (yet cheap) to use as a system drive for fast boot purpose thumbsup.gif

Hi guys, I’m an architecture student, and next year will be my second year, so I might have to get a pc that can actually carry softwares such as AutoCAD, Creative Cloud, SketchUp, etc. I’m not really too sure about the softwares that are needed for the course but those softwares I mentioned are what people in my school use. I’m also quite a tech illiterate so bear with me ;-;

[B][Budget]
RM2000-3000

[Purpose]
School, video editing and gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
Just a mouse

[Monitor resolution]
1920x1080

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
CSGO, MapleStory (with VPN), and architecture related softwares, a lot of them I think

[Personal preferences]
I just want a computer that doesn’t freeze when opening heavy softwares/games. If the computer can run Mac (school) and Windows (gaming) OS, that would be great.

[Location]
Kajang/Kota Kinabalu

Also, what OS is best for architecture students? My friend told me to get a macbook for architecture, so is mac best for architecture students? I have a mba but I feel like it sometimes freezes a little bit, but not as much as my old lenovo g500s used to.
*
No idea on whether MacOS is better for architecture student or not but if you want to native Apple MacBook with MacOS then it is not possible with your current budget, you need to run Hackintosh for this.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 849
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 299
Apacer 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 149
HIS RX460 4GB GDDR5 iCooler OC - RM 599
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
<Casing of your own choice> ~ RM 200
BenQ GW2270 - RM 399

Total: RM 2903 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

Consider adding another 8GB if you open many apps at the same time, same goes to SSD, it improves overall system responsiveness and shorter boot time.

But if I had a bigger budget, I should get larger ssd and ram, right? Should I also get an i7 processor too?
This rig will also be able to handle a little gaming, right? Do I need sound/graphic cards?

i7 is would be a great upgrade but some of the software you use might not be fully using it (not multicore), same goes to GPU, Nvidia GPU which comes with CUDA technology is more preferred in 3D modelling and rendering software, the current GPU picked in the list is an AMD card which doesn't have CUDA technology but with more VRAM, VRAM is used to store the data/elements/assets needed when you use to render (or any other process that uses GPU) so it doesn't have to keep on swapping the memory with the data needed (slow down the operation).

SSD doesn't add performance to the PC, it only improves the overall system responsiveness and shorten the boot time, apps launch faster = save more time.

RAM is very subjective, if you prefer to leave the app opened in background without killing it then you will need more RAM.

The rig comes with RX460 GPU, so yes it can handle gaming just right but not super advance graphics settings, Dota 2 and CS:GO max settings (1080p) shouldn't have any issue. As for sound card, the motherboard does come with basic sound card.
