Another nice surprise from the Vacheron boutique being posted today. A box of Fine & Rare Scotch Whiskies to sample at cask strength  shocking.gif
Definitely a much better treatment than Rolex ADs  biggrin.gif

There is credence to this – watches have become a currency just like any other. Watches and bitcoin makes considerable sense from a criminal perspective, not just for money laundering but also as payment for services rendered or even gifts and kickbacks. Far better than gemstones in most instances. Raises far less eyebrows, origins are not a big issue, easy to transport, justify, liquidate and cuci. With readily available legal channels to dispose the timepieces and high demands all around the world. It is what it is.

What IS interesting though, is how long this can keep up. It’s not like these dealings are centralized in an exchange that monitors and maintains liquidity, availability, value etc. I feel that with the artificial scarcity surrounding production, manufacturers themselves are complicit in perpetuating this phenomena despite knowing full well what’s really going on in the background. But can’t really blame them also la – sapa tak mau duit? Even Pfizer suddenly has “manufacturing problems” the moment Biden takes office.

I have to say the whole idea of nailing that grail piece then bugging out of the whole collecting bit sounds just about right. Which is rather disappointing as I feel that horology has a lot more to offer, really. I’m starting to consider the viability of exploring other aspects of the watch hobby, such as independents builders, modding or building watches as a plausible distraction. Again, curious to see where this industry is going. If it all goes tits up, I guess I'll just get back to guitars tongue.gif .

I can't even think of these as consolation prizes la bro, they are great and desirable pieces in their own right thumbsup.gif

Out of curiosity la, if u were given the opportunity, a choice between the Harrods or the Noir smiley dial, which would u go for?

haha tough option buddy. even though its an ETA movement, smiley dial with the rose logo to me is going to be a classic in the future. 41mm aint that bad too tbh.
The harrod's an eye catcher for sure, especially for those uncle auntie who be like " eh ah boy is that the green lolex ah?  biggrin.gif "

Very sharp eyes leh aunty can notice like dat means 🤣

not all right, because thats an AAAAA level fake hahahah

I do have a speedmaster reduced as well, as much as I like it, it does seem small on me
gave it to someone with more suitable wrist size
I think those who can pull off 36mm date just, should do perfectly on the reduced speedmaster

user posted image

but correct me if this is not reduced, is there a 39mm version??

I've been surveying this particular range for a while on the secondary market, iinm its the 3210.xx series? Reckon its not bad la overall, automatic chrono 7751movement i reckon. Some with day and date. 100m WR gives me peace of mind. Multiple color/design options. And best of all the price is sub 10k, which is pretty sweet for something not yet vintage.

I had some time in my hands so I geek out. I paired my Rolexes and Omegas with my geeky hobby stuff. I have over 350 board games, 100+ video games on various systems and a bunch of RPG game systems. Luckily my wife allowed me to house all of it in a Games Room. Hope you guys enjoy the pairing of watches and geekstuff.

Rolex Datejust 36 and Omega Aqua Terra 41mm on World of Darkness source books - Werewolf the Apocalypse, Vampire the Masquerade and Mage the Ascension.

[attachmentid=10798443]

Omega Seamaster Professional GMT and Rolex Submariner Date, with Glory to Rome Black Box edition as the background. The Black Box version has long been discontinued and is sought after by collectors.

[attachmentid=10798444]

Rolex Daytona Two Tone (Daytona24 Prize model) and Omega Speedmaster Professional Sapphire Sandwich on a bunch of Dungeons & Dragons core books.

Those were the days. I started on WoD with their Rage tcg, then werewolf, VtM, VtDA...all long gone. Last piece I sold was a pristine Cyberpunk 2020 2 years ago. Ah well. New hobby la now with watches.

From past experience, watches coming into MY incur an excise duty of 5%. However, customs can be rather annoying in this regard. The officer can incur additional tax brackets onto the item as they see fit (claiming the item is for spare parts or some other taxable category). Another tactic I noticed is calculating the excise duty with higher currencies (purchased an item from EU in USD but got charged a flat tax in CHF rather than the actual USD value. Courier - in this case Fedex - paid in advance without negotiating, and we would have to foot the bill). If u can choose to collect item for urself, u have the opportunity to negotiate i.e. sweet talk for a lower charge - these fees r mostly at the discretion of the officer). Ultimately though, the sums involved were not a significant percentage of the overall delivery. Just things to be aware of.

Having said all that, I'm actually not sure if this is entirely relevant since yours is a non-commercial delivery - the item belongs to u and ur merely delivering it rather than selling it right?

Thanks for the insight. it looks like the charges would vary I guess when it arrives in Malaysia.
I was thinking of purchasing another Vacheron from the boutique and have them ship to Malaysia when I head back for holidays (when the pandemic is under control.. when is the question)
I don't know if it's worth the extra savings and if the officers would want to charge more due to the value of the watch. The watch is in excess of over RM130k. Reckon that would be an issue?
*
There is a small possibility that they might get greedy la looking at a figure like that - their work performance is quota driven, similar to traffic officers. Otherwise, if all goes smoothly it should be costing u roughly 7.5k or so (pending shipping and insurance ).

This is another thought. If its possible, why not have them send it over to the next closest boutique or AD maybe, and u can collect it from there? Ur a valued customer, give them some kinda justification and see if they'd be able to accommodate.

That's the thing that irks me. Also there's no boutiques in KL I believe.

It's just an idea to see if it's even worth the trouble. But appreciate your thoughts.

No worries mate 👌🏿

Anyways, looks like Lange is also jumping onto the exclusivity/waitlist band wagon.

Eh but actually la kan, I'd say that 37mm looks alright la on ur wrist, quite ngam. Is it that it doesn't sit right because the lug-to-lug dimensions tak kena or the way the strap is attached to the case? The 41 does look a tad overwhelming.
