Hi guys, been sometime since I have posted here. So I am looking forward to sell of my Tag Heuer Carrera CV2a10ba which I bought around January 2014.

Before uploading more picture of the watch, anyone knows approximately how much could I let this go for ?

I can’t seem to find the receipt though I still have the booklet and the warranty card. Though the original watch box is pretty dusty and the pillow and interior of the box is kind of peeling off.

Bought the watch around 10-12k back in Jan 2014 and never dropped it and it hasn’t been serviced yet.

Reason of sale: Planning to get another watch.

A quick look on chrono24 shows the price for that particular model plus box and papers ranges from around 9-18k depending on year and condition. Theres a verified dealer from MY in there selling a 2010 model for 10k. Maybe u could give that platform a look to get a general idea.

Anyone here has imported their watches from abroad? I'm interested in acquiring a certain piece of affordable watch (only USD 300 before shipping fees), but I can't seem to find the particular model in Malaysia (at least when I searched online). It's available in one of the US shop and I'm planning to just buy it there. However, I want to be sure first of the duties and taxes that I should pay before actually going through with the transaction. I'd really appreciate it if someone can shed a light on this. notworthy.gif
*
I have no experience with watches specifically, but have bought musical instruments that usually carry an import duty of 10% of item + shipping cost. From what I've read on mwf, for watches its typically 5% of watch price + shipping costs. The customs officer has a bit of leeway in what is charged though, can reduce or increase if they see the item falling into another more lucrative tax bracket. If your mulut manis, maybe can sweet talk ur way to a lower charge. But if customa clearance is done by the courier, you'll be slapped the full amount. YMMV

Total watch noob here.

Ive been using a cheap citizen watch and it broke last month. Still using it tho since not having a watch on wrist felt weird.

Wanting to try an automatic watch and seiko 5 seems affordable. Is it good?
Any other brand that i should look for? And is there shop in kl or ipoh anyone recommend? Budget is kinda small since my 2nd baby is on the way and waifu already step up as menteri kewangan. So all spending need approval now.

Thx sifuu.
*
Seiko 5 is a great choice. Even if you get bored with it a few years down the line, you could always mod it and hey presto - new watch! almost sweat.gif

But i suppose the main question overall is jumlah dana yang diluluskan melalui belanjawan kementerian kewangan la biggrin.gif

Hi guys, wanted to ask something about watch maintenance. Servicing a mechanical periodically is necessary to ensure the movement runs proper and true.

But what about water resistance seals though?

I assume that unless we're talking about high end brands, typical watch service centers don't actually have a Bergeon 5555 or the equivalent to test water seal. Do you send your watches to some place that specifically is able to do such tests? Would like to hear your thoughts on this. The question crossed my mind as I was thinking about the WR integrity of my tool diver.

there are a few 3rd party watch repair guys that can do water testing.
TSC is one of them...they're now in USJ.
*
Nice, thx man, the site looks promising. What's their typical servicing charge like for just regular maintenance u reckon? And it seems they do rolex as well?

That seems reasonable enough for basic maintenance. And my watches tend to be of the pedestrian ETA 2824 / Miyota 9015 kinds anyway so probably won't vary by much. Can drop by next time I'm in the central area.

i have some experience dealing with them, the owner is a pretty seasoned watchmaker, he's also training a few younglings to help with the business. You can ask him anything about watches and he'll gladly answer your questions.

That said, they charge a basic fee for diagnostics, then if you decide to proceed with the services that'll be dependent on the watch brand and what sort of repairs that needs to be done.
*
sounds good man, thanks. seems they also do rolex repairs. how does this sit in with the whole idea of rolex frowning upon 3rd party intervention into their products i wonder? seems quite a lot of places do service rolexes. i reckon this particular establishment is reputable and wouldn't shortchange customers by scavenging parts and what not, but does it affect the record/integrity/recognition (for lack of better word) of the watch itself moving forward?

and I heard la... other than cheaper cost, there are some Rolex watches that don't dare to go RSC, due to reported lost  tongue.gif  tongue.gif
hearsay only ya

makes sense also la, since rolex doesn't publish its lost and stolen register to the public. easy for products of dubious of origins to remain under the radar like that.

Imo if it's just a regular service, nothing wrong with it being done by a reputable watchmaker.

You hear horror stories of people sending in their watches to rsc with strict do not polish instructions, and it still comes back shiny and new.

Or the one where an all-original vintage goes in and comes out shiny and new with service parts.

If it's a modern 6-digit, I would stick with rsc, since service papers will help with any eventual sale too (although they're still so new, it shouldn't need a visit to rsc yet).
But 4-digits (and 5-digits not far behind) ref, you'll have to weigh up your options.

I say all this on the assumption that you know a reputable watchmaker who knows what they're doing.
*
Ya mang, especially for them vintage pieces, its like literally paying to get the watch devalued. Whatever happened to the notion of historically sympathetic servicing? Unnecessary or unrequested stuff added to the work order - like sapphire crystal swaps, hand changes, polishing when strictly told not to as u said.

I suppose that's the key issue la kan, finding somebody u can trust who not only knows what they're doing, but also not to rip you off.

More and more I'm feeling that the rolex ownership experience isnt all that already la. AD staff aren't exactly welcoming (i know some of u have established great relationships with them, good on u) getting the watch is a pain, maintaining can end up being a crapshoot, the iconic models attracting undue attention from unsavory parties, knockoffs being rampant. About the only good thing is one doesn't have to worry much about resale value. However, the resale exercise itself is a whole other story. Haihhhh.....

Swung by Cortina recently to cuci mata and came across this GO Seaq Panorama Date. The blue dial is just stunning, haunting even. Like it knows I might drive myself broke trying to take it home😅

Just been sent a surprise gift from the boutique today to celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival. Mighty generous of them as they just send another gift not too long ago.
Guess I have to buy a watch now  hmm.gif

Anyway....here are some pics.

Comes in a rather nice sturdy box and beautifully presented.

Nope it's not mooncake, which I secretly wished it was but it's chinese tea leaves but I don't mind. The tin is nice too and the tea is aromatic.

user posted image

The booklet tells a bit of a history in how the tea were harvested and how to enjoy it. It's a lovely touch to the package.

Guess it's time I brew some tea now.

I wonder wat happened to the Quai de l'Ile, seems it got discontinued. Which was a shame cuz its a pretty handsome looking entry lvl piece and the later models had a 10 bar WR and makes it rather versatile.

Finally got to see the VC Overseas in person, and they had all 3 variants available in the boutique today.

The blue was beautiful but can be hard to photograph.
Unfortunately, it wore a little too large for me, so I had to give it a pass.

The experience at the boutique was great though, with well-stocked cases and very helpful and informative sales staff.
Very homely, compared to feeling like just a number in other ADs.
*
Gorgeous piece la that one, really liking the blue dial. Are these ready stock or still got waitlist to them?

All 3 colours were ready stock today, about 32k AUD.
I don't expect it to last the weekend though.

Quite unlikely, I agree biggrin.gif where is this btw, Melbourne? They have a much better allocation over there than we do looks like - there was a dearth of SS overseas during my last browse around.

On another note, was reading about the new Oris calibre 400 movement, sounds very interesting. 5 day power reserve, 10 year warranty, 10 year service interval. Beats JLC by quite a couple of years. Haven't really been paying much attention to the brand much these past few years, but this sounds like a significant step upwards for them.

Surprisingly i find the Blackbay58 Blue to be better built than the OG bb58 for some reason. feels more solid but maybe my mind's playing trick on me because its newer  sweat.gif
*
Perhaps the gilt/gold of the OG comes across as....dainty maybe?

I'm debating whether should get the BB58 or not. Seems nice n all but can't help but feel its over hyped. I suppose one good thing is that resale won't take such a bad hit since its reasonably in demand

QUOTE(fuzzy @ Nov 6 2020, 07:00 PM)
It's a "better" wear than a Sub for me, partly due to the size to wrist ratio.

And like you say, the resale is still at 16k or so where I see, so can still turn a profit.
*
QUOTE(infiniti123 @ Nov 6 2020, 11:55 PM)
agree with fuzzy. i honestly prefer my bb58 than my sub date. the 39mm just fits the wrist more elegantly and its a better conversation piece.
i feel Tudor is more of a watch enthusiast brand while the Sub has become a insta flex watch.

The bb58 is also a new in-house movement (previous movement could not fit into the 39mm casing) and it commemorates the 50th anniversary release for the original tudor dive watch, hence with the historical story behind it
*
I think my wrist is a little flatter than most, seems to feel more comfy with the BB 41mm rather than 39mm though, which is another thing.

Thats an interesting observation though, Tudor BB being the choice for enthusiasts and Rollie sub being the flex piece. Never thought about it that way but it does make sense. Fair enough the rolex is more established, pricier, coveted n all but it has evolved into a show piece due to consumer perception n demand. The BB58 on the other is a well executed newcomer that just oozes value however which way we look at it, punching well above its bracket.
