dont bother with shopping malls etc unless they got immediate stock, else will take more than a month.
as mentioned go straight to swatch hq in kl, usually 30mins to 1hr wait only.

They'd need a month to order a spring bar? Damn. HQ I presume is the one at Wisma Goldhill?

how good is your hearing?
you may want to walk into a shop to try to see if you can handle the decibel level

3 simple steps to check:

1. Walk into a watch shop
2. Ask to see the automatic movement watch you like
3. Put it on and see if you can hear the movement

Any other brands out there?

I believe this type of design is called Bauhaus.

Nomos, Junkers & Stowa to name a few...or The legendary Bambino.

LOL laughed when I re-read what i typed. But really, this is a serious question.
Bought an analog watch recently, and on the name of everything holy, I can hear the ticking sound, especially when in quiet room / late at night.

So could it be a manufacturer defect, or is it normal for analog watches to have audible sound as the gear moves the hands?

depends on the movement.
some are very quiet, some are quite irritating and could keep u awake at night if u put it beside ur table.
