Ty^^ May I know how much will a wireless router normally cost? And does it add on to my monthly payment or it will be just a one-time payment thing? Where can I buy it a? Buy from Maxis? Thank you so much^^

Can buy from normal IT shop. Trickier part is to share out the internet connection (although its a straight forward plug and play device, would still need some skill to share out your internet connection from your laptop/desktop). Wireless router will less than RM100 and its a one time thing.

Ty^^ So Maxis does not provide the service if I want to add a wireless router? Or it will be more expensive if I buy it from Maxis? Will my overall internet speed becomes slower if I add the wireless router?

Btw, do you mind explain more on the Maxis Fibre? I don't feel like buying it cuz I saw that it has quota... Cuz the home package RM68 all that no quota and cheaper... but that one got quota yet more expensive... So I don't understand... Mind give me more explanations?

Thank you so much^^ biggrin.gif

Truth to be told, it is indeed quite complicated to share a internet connection from a dongle device through a wireless router. And yes, internet speed will certainly become slower if you share it out among more users.

Quota for UniFi and Maxis Fibre has been mentioned and stated since last year BUT has not yet been implemented, and it will NOT be implemented anytime soon, trust me. :-)

Quota was mentioned since last year as precaution that once all normal broadband users migrate to fibre optic line, together with new users, they will start using P2P non-stop and kill all the bandwith. We are still very far from reaching even half of the infrastructures max load capacity.

As for Maxis Fibre, if you look at the cheapest package (RM128 for 4Mbps line), its basically getting a very much FASTER internet connection for roughly twice the price? Plus, a whole lot of other freebies such as free calls to Maxis mobile numbers, IDD calls and also free calls on your Maxis mobile number.

Thank you^^ But it's too expensive for me ><

I can always close the wireless router when I'm not in use and it will not have effect on my speed right? Can i set password so that others won't share the coverage and made it slower? Ty^^

I can teach you how to set up the router and set the password or you just google it. Now everything can be googled LOL. BTW if you got modem for your ISP, it has several LAN port. If you just want to connect to your laptop, just plug in the lan cable smile.gif

I'm considering switching to Maxis's wired broadband service. The gateway that comes with Bundle 2MB is like a router, right? Is it good? Or would I be better off with Basic 1MB and buying my own wireless router? There are several laptop and handphone users at home, so wi-fi access is a must. Also, is it true that the speed for Basic 1MB will be upgraded to 2MB upon installation -- is that still going on now? Thank you!

ETA: I headed to Maxis in the afternoon and signed up for Basic 1MB, since Bundle 2MB isn't available in my area (?). Comes up with a free modem, and a ton of charges are waived. Sounds right? Can anyone recommend a wireless router, too? Thank you!

In 2009, I applied for 1MB, they automatic upgrade me 2MB (2048/512) in few days. Im using 2mb for these few years and suddenly they change me to 1mb back. I call the hotline they said according to their database of course im using 1mb and don't have any history that im using 2mb before. WTH

i'm one of the lucky users who did get 2mbps as "free upgrade" 2 or 3 years back, and i'm still paying RM88 as monthly payment.

maxis has the habit of honouring one-time promotion, so usually after the promotion, they will erase anything related to it for new users, hence why the customer service said to you "no such package".

It's been a while. Still on 2mbps here at Rawang. sigh.

I had done some research and found out maxis is using G.DMT modulation which is capable for connection up to 8mbps. (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.992.1 )

I guess maxis didn't introduce new package like 4mbps or 8mbps maybe because it's not that profitable?

Im staying in Shah Alam where only my and 2 other small area are covered by Maxis wired broadband (the rest all under TM and got Unfi). I'm paying for 1mpbs but getting only 0.20-0.40mpbs with ping as high as 500+ms.

Anyone else experience these issues with Maxis wired broadband? =(

so far so good. if there's downtime due to external reasons e.g. stolen cables, maxis will try to up it within 2 working days smile.gif
