Thoughts around ER-X versus USG with US-8 starting point.  Wireless AC will follow later.

How easy or difficult it is to do the initial configuration via the GUI (withour getting into CLI) and ensure a solid firewall.  No port forwading stuff etc just enough to get Unifi up and running.  The other configuration stuff will come after some experiences with it.
*
good thing with usg is, even though u have flat vlan... and u have guest portal.. its auto isolate guest network and internal network. meanwhile ERX, u need create different vlan... and u need to add cli to isolate certain IP range or port.

if u can use USG (because u have US-8) that is even better.. jz dat.. erx way cheaper than USG.

Hey guys, so I just recently moved into a new place, and just recently installed Time @ 300 Mbps.

My thoughts were:
Modem --> ER-X --> AP AC --> WiFi Devices
Also desktops will hook straight up to the ER-X

For a 900sqft apt that is very low density, I think the AP AC should be sufficient enough, but AC LR is an option.

I probably will be against drilling my top ceiling and instead use some high strength 3M type sticker(?) for cable management as well as to keep the device on the ceiling.
Alternative option was to have it mid wall mounted instead.

Thoughts?
*
no prob if its wall mount. ur ceiling is high?

Completed my home network upgrade recently.
Ubiquiti Security Gateway, Unifi Cloudkey, Unifi Switch 8 60W x 2, UAP AC Pro x 2.

Was using Asus Router AC RT68U x 2 (1 router & 1 AP)

Performance wise: Seems like Asus better coverage and faster speedtest results.

will try to tweak the unifi AP placement and see the results later.
*
any result sharing? this must be interesting.. can post in UBNT forum.. and let the developer knows. laugh.gif

LEL. I joined the forum, but seems like many ppl only reading (post other question though)

Manage to install SSL certificate on my cloudkey controller and also use own domain.
able to access direct to cloudkey from WAN without need to go to unifi.ubnt
So far quite reliable, in the end i lower down the power of my AP to medium, and only boost max for the AP which we use most of the time.

some pic for the dashboard attached

i see.....

awesome.. btw... r u using TM UniFi? Maxis? or TIME?

im curious what is result for dual WAN speedtest if using USG... because last time when use ERlite can get 100+100 = 200mb... now it detects 100 sweat.gif

I'm using Time at the moment, but hopefully able to add secondary ISP for testing purpose.

Wrong config for your ERlite perhaps? how do you get the secondary wan?
*
it just running on wizard... but then cli to remove pppoe.. cz tm have vlan tagging.

both are using TM ISP anyway. now waiting for ER6P coming.. then i will use 3 WAN..

anyone know how to configure USG so it can become an inline device to see the dpi packet from modem to the router? i have been googling this but can find the thread till now
*
i tot you need to enable it.

modem ---> USG ---> switch ----> AP

unless you do, modem ---> wireless router --->USG (but still u can do dpi) ---> switch --->AP/machines

Dear all,
need some advise, been researching on this topic but somehow i'm just abit confused on the products/model i should be using.

i would like to extend the wifi from my parent's place to my home which is just few units from her place on the same road.

There is line of sight at the balcony(though i think i need to extend the bar abit to achieve complete line of sight)

so what should i be using to setup this up.

HomeA
Unifi - Modem- Router - Nanostation?

HomeB
Nanastation - Router

????

Thanks all.
*
the red i highlight above, you mean, extend the pole where nanostation will be mounted?
i recommend you to use Nanostation M5 as Nanostation M2 is based on 2.4G and its very congested and it will affecting speed as well.
UniFi modem - Router - Nanostation } Home A
Nanostation - Switch - Router/AP } Home B

this is simple PTP setup. nod.gif

nanobeam or litebeam for ptp is good enough. nanostation m is kinda quite old.. so i guess can opted for nanobeam or litebeam

Is this something like a wifi repeater / extender ?

Currently router is place at area mark X in red. No signal / very weak signals in all the bedrooms when the doors are closed.
[attachmentid=9913148]
*
Please refer to bottom link. It does work like repeater and extender. The only different is, these AP is centralized controlled. So it just one time configuration and easy compare when manage individual AP

what router you use? and what kind of wall the house have? looks a bit spacey house

UAP AC Mesh Explain

will the new nanoHD be a good choice for gigaspeed connection compared to the LR or Pro
*
yes. its 4x4 on 5Ghz network.. it is good. but for 2.4Ghz.. it just 2x2. but these days... most mobile phone can support 5Ghz... so not an issue.. good for high dense connectivity that demand 5ghz connection.

QUOTE(pizzaboyj @ Jul 13 2018, 02:58 PM)
probably the best bet, but you cant really get nanohd in malaysia atm right?
*
nod.gif price wise have. yes... but the unit itself, i haven seen it yet. only UAP AC HD

got my ERX couple of days ago and set it up, seems pretty straightforward, already massive improvement to my network, but looking to replace my archer c7 and c1200 with either 2x UAP AC or 2x nanoHD if they become available...

i think UAP AC LR will do..

Sorry. Stupid quiesrion. How does this device connects to my existing WiFi ? Do we use the app to select existing ssid than key in the password .

Now using d-link router provided by time.

It’s a condominium around 3,000 sft. Last time when I do renovation the contractor got hard time drilling holes as he say the walls are dense. So I suspect this is reason why diff to get good signal.

So u think this device able to provide the signal ?

How about the uap ac pro ? Can I plug it to the existing time d-link router and it would solve the problem ?
*
No, it do not solve your problem. ubnt mesh only works with ubnt products. and ubnt product is not the same as consumer AP. where you just simply combine with other brand and its hardware

i finish setup ubnt solution for my friend at KL apartment. he is using time+iptv, performance much better.
using USG + US-8-150W + 4 UAP AC LR + cloud key

solve his issue...

challenge is the GUI does not support FQDN definition for the peer rclxub.gif has anyone had success with such a scenario ? btw only one end is USG, where another end is on another solution.

if i not mistaken.... need to edit json file... was curious about this too... hmm.gif

Some of the guy told me do this. if you have USG at both end
CODE
if you had one controller with multiple sites then it is easy to set up site to site vpn withough messing arround with dns or static ips
with seperate controllers it is harder. but with them on the same controller the sites use the controller to locate the ip for the far end of the VPN

hi guys, i'm planning to get a AC-LR for mounting on my new house ground floor ceiling. Then i planning to use the free wifi router from Unifi (if any) to setup the same SSID on my first floor. Is it possible? Any issues for using different brand of APs?

Also how is this compared to mesh APs? i have not research much on mesh but seeing hte price tag have put me away from them...

Thanks for the advise smile.gif
*
LR provide much wide range coverage.. if i not mistaken (need to recheck) AC LR have 3x3 mimo on 2.4Gz compare 2x2 mimo on 2.4Gz in AP Mesh. its good to get AC LR if you plan indoor deployment.

regarding on setting same SSID, i think dats fine.. maybe it works.

Thanks for quick response. I cant remember the term where the device connection is handover from one AP to another AP. Handshake?

Anyway, my concern is let say if i bring my phone from downstair to upstair, the connection will stuck to the downstair AP. How to ensure that the handover from one AP to another AP can be done smoothly? i know if both APs are the same brand, the connection will be seamless. What if it is different brand?  hmm.gif  maybe in future will add a AC-Lite for upstair...
*
zero-handoff.... means no disconnection when u roam between 2 APs.. but regarding on 2 different AP [different brand] but same SSID... this one im not really sure..if there is disconnection happen or not. if you want enterprise performance with quite cheap solution.. yes.. ubiquiti is one of them...
