Thoughts around ER-X versus USG with US-8 starting point.  Wireless AC will follow later.

How easy or difficult it is to do the initial configuration via the GUI (withour getting into CLI) and ensure a solid firewall.  No port forwading stuff etc just enough to get Unifi up and running.  The other configuration stuff will come after some experiences with it.

Hey guys, so I just recently moved into a new place, and just recently installed Time @ 300 Mbps.

My thoughts were:
Modem --> ER-X --> AP AC --> WiFi Devices
Also desktops will hook straight up to the ER-X

For a 900sqft apt that is very low density, I think the AP AC should be sufficient enough, but AC LR is an option.

I probably will be against drilling my top ceiling and instead use some high strength 3M type sticker(?) for cable management as well as to keep the device on the ceiling.
Alternative option was to have it mid wall mounted instead.

Thoughts?

i would say "standard" height, not abnormally high, i dont have specific dimensions though atm

Completed my home network upgrade recently.
Ubiquiti Security Gateway, Unifi Cloudkey, Unifi Switch 8 60W x 2, UAP AC Pro x 2.

Was using Asus Router AC RT68U x 2 (1 router & 1 AP)

Performance wise: Seems like Asus better coverage and faster speedtest results.

will try to tweak the unifi AP placement and see the results later.

Manage to install SSL certificate on my cloudkey controller and also use own domain.
able to access direct to cloudkey from WAN without need to go to unifi.ubnt
So far quite reliable, in the end i lower down the power of my AP to medium, and only boost max for the AP which we use most of the time.

I'm using Time at the moment, but hopefully able to add secondary ISP for testing purpose.

Wrong config for your ERlite perhaps? how do you get the secondary wan?

anyone know how to configure USG so it can become an inline device to see the dpi packet from modem to the router? i have been googling this but can find the thread till now

need some advise, been researching on this topic but somehow i'm just abit confused on the products/model i should be using.

i would like to extend the wifi from my parent's place to my home which is just few units from her place on the same road.

There is line of sight at the balcony(though i think i need to extend the bar abit to achieve complete line of sight)

so what should i be using to setup this up.

Currently router is place at area mark X in red. No signal / very weak signals in all the bedrooms when the doors are closed.

will the new nanoHD be a good choice for gigaspeed connection compared to the LR or Pro

probably the best bet, but you cant really get nanohd in malaysia atm right?

got my ERX couple of days ago and set it up, seems pretty straightforward, already massive improvement to my network, but looking to replace my archer c7 and c1200 with either 2x UAP AC or 2x nanoHD if they become available...

Now using d-link router provided by time.

It’s a condominium around 3,000 sft. Last time when I do renovation the contractor got hard time drilling holes as he say the walls are dense. So I suspect this is reason why diff to get good signal.

So u think this device able to provide the signal ?

How about the uap ac pro ? Can I plug it to the existing time d-link router and it would solve the problem ?

i'm trying to create a site-to-site vpn on USG with dynamic WAN address on both ends

challenge is the GUI does not support FQDN definition for the peer has anyone had success with such a scenario ? btw only one end is USG, where another end is on another solution.

hi guys, i'm planning to get a AC-LR for mounting on my new house ground floor ceiling. Then i planning to use the free wifi router from Unifi (if any) to setup the same SSID on my first floor. Is it possible? Any issues for using different brand of APs?

Also how is this compared to mesh APs? i have not research much on mesh but seeing hte price tag have put me away from them...

Anyway, my concern is let say if i bring my phone from downstair to upstair, the connection will stuck to the downstair AP. How to ensure that the handover from one AP to another AP can be done smoothly? i know if both APs are the same brand, the connection will be seamless. What if it is different brand?    maybe in future will add a AC-Lite for upstair...
