Hi, I plan to change my router to EdgeRouter but not sure if I really need to.

Currently using

Unifi 100mb

Asus rt-n66u>tplink 16port gigabit switch + toughswitch 5port>2 UAP, 1 UAP-LR (3 floor)

All via cat.5e

Devices
2 NAS
3 streaming box
Unifi hypptv
Cctv

Wifi devices: around 20 connected at the same time.

Thanks

hi, wanna ask for advice to setup ubiquiti wifi networks around the house,
3 storey house, main unifi access at middle floor.
currently using old unifi router, unifi 50mb

wanna change all to use ubiquiti, and setup middle floor as the main unifi connection, with acces point on top and btm floor, something like below:
Attached Image

any suggestion? what would i need?

oh, then, u might need 1 ap each floor... so total is 3 ap and 1 edge router.. but u are using for home usage right.. so kinda pricey for home usage.. because ubiquiti kinda focus on enterprise.. 1 ap cost about 450+. edge router poe5. another 500+ i think.... it cost u 1k+

I have the exact same setup as you, and have the same targeted setup as your drawing, how do you plan to do the cabling? that's the only thing stopping me atm.... icon_question.gif

lol. no idea yet, but not so soon as well

i planned to just route the cable out of the wall (to the outside) then route from outside to top floor ceiling and btm floor ceiling. that way i dont have to break so much walls.

you'll be routing through the roof-ceiling? hmm, sounds like a feasible idea, I do not intend to break walls too. Well, good luck with your upgrade!

I've been using EdgeRouter Lite for a few weeks now and it's fantastic - not a single hiccup

Been running with a constant OpenVPN site-to-site tunnel to my office in UK (on an ER-8) and it hasn't dropped the connection once. Using L2TP before and I was getting drops more often (which I suspect were related to my NIC)

Don't regret the purchase one bit! Now just need to figure out how to setup a Client-to-Site OpenVPN for when I'm travelling next month.

If you have multiple WAN connection, make sure VPN connection not load balanced to a different WAN from the original WAN when the VPN was initiated. Also some ISP throttle common VPN protocols (that used fixed port & protocol) for consumer internet.

To be honest the setup was a bit more hassle as had to use CLI rather than GUI, but after working no problems at all.

Did you have a look at the logs? Might shed some light as to why it's not working
