I thought he did already done test with Jordan years ago? So this is not his debut outing. Just a superlicence run. With that out of the way, he can now push harder

yup, before Ron Dennis joined McLaren, all McLaren cars carry "M" designation... such as James Hunt car, M23 IINM. When Dennis come aboard, he changed it to MP4-XX
*
MP4 is McLaren + Project 4, while M is McLaren. Thus Mercedes I think will only drop P4.
For the rumours, heck, i even heard that Supa Aguri might be hiring Schumacher for PR. ignore them

BMW reaffirmed their early season pace with Nick Heidfeld at the summit of the timesheets in testing at Bahrain.

The German was nearly eight tenths of a second ahead of his closest rival Fernando Alonso at the Sakhir circuit on Friday.

Heidfeld set the fastest time on Friday morning during qualifying simulation. BMW team-mate Robert Kubica was fifth fastest with both drivers completing full race simulations in the afternoon.

"Today was a good day we did a race simulation which went problem free which was very satisfying for us as last time we had some technical problems in the winter runs but today went well and the speeds seemed good," said Heidfeld.

"We have three more days of testing here, one tomorrow then two days off and two more days after that. It is the most important test for us and for many I'm sure as it's the last big test before the start of the season.

"I'm really excited about the start of the season, it is very special to me the first race and also I enjoy Melbourne and at the moment the car is looking good."

McLaren new-boy Lewis Hamilton focused on longer runs to set the MP4-22 up for the Australian Grand Prix. The Brit was fourth fastest.

Jenson Button split the two McLaren drivers and was third fastest during an encouraging day for the Honda team.

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa was quickest on Thursday and the Brazilian managed the eighth quickest time on Friday. Kimi Raikkonen was sixth. The Scuderia outfit were concentrating on electronic development and both drivers completed 70 laps.

The Renault pair of test-driver Nelson Piquet Jr and Heikki Kovalainen completed endurance tests over race distances and worked on general set-up and tyres. They were seventh and tenth respectively.

QUOTE(fred16 @ Feb 27 2007, 03:58 PM)
I personally think it's a good move by Honda to be more civic-minded of the environment, it's a step in the right direction, and c'mon the car doesn't look half tht bad, it'll look kinda funky on the racing grid i think.
BMW's juz fooling da world with their earlier season pace or da other teams r holding bck a little, there is no way on Earth they can be .2 of a second faster than Ferrari.
They've got a good engine, i'll give em that, it's gots da highest revs in F1 but they'll just fail to deliver the way i c it.
Da cars look bloody beautiful though, Mc'Laren's lookin kinda hot but what's wif da twin haircut, c'mon guys, serious lack of personality, it's gonna b difficult to differentiate btw Ferrari and Spyker, similar color scheme, Renault's gone kinda dowdy, lots more white and a splash of orange courtesy of ING, da rest is pretty much same old same old i think
it's gonna make for a cracking season i think 07, lots of pretenders to da crown, but i know where's it's heading, bck to Brazil wif Felipe Massa, it's high time he took it and he's got da speed to do it as evident towards da end of last season
So lets all sit bck n njoy it folks, can't wait for the season to begin.
*
BMW showed that last season when they got the 3rd place at Monza. it's not impossible. And did you know that Intel built them the 3rd most powerful computer in the world for the to use? They also still have the Sauber's very powerful and modern wind tunnel. Old team + more money, they are supposed to be much better this season

Ferrari = Marlboro Red, Spyker = Holland Orange. Not teh same.

Well, BMW still have quick nick and Kubica, which IMO can be quite fast. And last season they were still not using all their full capabilities, only just merging with Sauber. What Sauber lacked was not expertise, as they can produce fast cars, but was the budget for them to make more parts, and with BMW, they have this now. Yes McLaren had a dismall season last year, and Ferrari too the year before. The problem was last season, McLaren lost Adrian Newey, and with the car was designed by Newey, it's hard to upgrade it without his input anymore. we saw in Bahrain that the car was fast during the start of the season, but started going downhill after that. Sometimes, losing a key personell can lead to disadvantageous. Ferrari meanwhile was too cocky with all the wins that in 05, they thought that they can just plunk in any car and it will do. What it forgot what Bridgestone lacks the team and milage to test their tyres, thus leaving them with crappy tyres that cannot last the race distance.
BMW and Mario Thiessen worked hard last winter to get the team going, and it's now showing. Massa is not the kind of guy to praise other teams, and yet he said that BMW could be the dark horse. And it's not just massa, many other drivers are saying that BMW has improved much last season.

And I disagree with hard to spot Spyker with the Ferrari. Last season, midland's was the same with McLaren, in which the bottom was black, and the top was white. Which when shown in a front horizon shot, kinda the same. Spyker this year meanwhile has a silver nose and sidepod and black branding, compared to Ferrari's all red livery with white branding. And if all is lost, just look at the helmet design

Also, look at the Williams case. They were one of the best (and still is) team on the F1 grid, and yet, the day BMW pulled their support, they immediatly plummeted. Money does makes F1 goes round

For some reason, I disagree with the Schumacher 'rewritten the whole F1 record' thing. Did he get the most pole? yes he did, but it took him over 1/5th of the races that he entered to get that. Senna meanwhile scored pole every 0.4 races. And points? hell, that's not significant. Considering the races he entered, and the points given out was different from the times of James Hunt/Jackie Stewart/Juan Manual Fangio, it's just not fair. Juan Manual started F1 at fricking 40++ for crying out loud. If he was younger, he could have added to the 5 world championship that he has. And during that time, how many points and races were done per season?
Even if you don't feel like it, Alonso is a deserved world champ. Heck, he even held the record of the youngest F1 winner, and double f1 champion, and still can be the youngest to boot. And his 2 championship comes without conterversy or foul play. the same cannot be said to a certain champ that won the '94 and nonchalantly budges Jaques to win the '97 world title. Heck, I wonder when the last time I see Fernando went into another teams garage and threathened to kill another driver....

Ex McLaren team manager Jo Ramirez believes Fernando Alonso is the favourite to win this year's World title, although he does expect Ferrari to pose a challenge.

Alonso has excelled in winter testing, often finishing near the top of the timesheets as McLaren's new MP4-22 demonstrates that it has both pace and reliability.

And according to Ramirez, Alonso's talent, which saw him win back-to-back World titles with Renault, and McLaren's much-improved MP4-22 will prove to be a winning combination this season.

"Alonso will win," Ramirez, who retired in 2001, told Autosprint magazine. "There are no doubts over his driving talent, of course.

"However, what's new is that McLaren-Mercedes will regain their reliability: things have changed for the better with the new car."

Ramirez, though, believes Alonso will face a tough challenge from Ferrari, although it won't come from Kimi Raikkonen, but rather it will be mounted by Felipe Massa.

"Ferrari will take full advantage of the know-how they've developed through their long partnership with Bridgestone," he said.

"They will fight with McLaren and it will be a great fight, but I've already said how I think it will end."

He added: "The thing is that in my opinion the real challenger to McLaren won't be Raikkonen, but Massa.

"Felipe is improving massively and in the end he can reveal himself to be more performing than Kimi."

When I compared Schummi to the great oldies, it's because that I was refuting you saying he was the greatest driver that broke every record. what you said when you never see them start on the back of the grid and finish high enough? did you really watched them race? How dare you say they don't have the tenacy of a racing driver. If you want tenacy, look at Niki Lauda. He was burnt nearly to death, that a priest was called to say his last rites. But he went on to race again.
What I didn't say was Alonso was the greatest. Heck, I also rate Schumacher higher than Alonso, but what I said was, Alonso don't need to prove to anyone that he is a godd world champ. Chickenshit? whoever can pass schumacher on the outside of 130R full throttle ain't no chicken shit to me. Spoonfed? Was he spoonfed when he was at Minardi? Was it his fault that Giancarlo flopped so sadly last season? And what the difference that make with Schumacher? If you said that Renault spoonfed Fernando, we can say the same with Schummi and Ferrari. He gets the best parts, the best car, and even the best finishing if he wants (remember Austria?). Briatore did the same thing to him at Benneton when he won in 94 and 95, so when Briatore does the same thing to Fernando, you're pissed of? From what I see, you're the one that seeing double standards of thing.
Yes, schumacher might be human, and he did all he did to win, but Senna too did what he needed to do, but the difference was, if he felt he was wrong, in the end he will SAY he's sorry (remember Japan, Senna Mclaren and Prost Ferrari?).

oh yeah, before I forgot. Try looking for the 1983 US GP at long beach. The winner and 2nd place man started from 22 and 23 on the grid. And yet you say they cannot start from the back on the grid to finish in the podium. PAH!

He needs the right car to do that. and with the top three team drive being secured by yound drivers (bar Fisico), i doubt that. If he drives with Honda or BMW.Sauber, he might nick a rare win, but he drove neither. so the next best thing he can do is get to the podium.
But don't get me wrong. I do believe that car can maketh the driver. The Williams of the old was so strong that many team said you can put an averange racer in the Williams car and he can win the world championship. And I also feel that any Ferrari driver from 2000 - 2004 can win the WDC if Schumacher was not in the team.

Heh, it's not just car setup. While Schumacher does drive better than Rubens, he also has the luxury of having the better parts on his car. Sometimes in F1, team is just in the name only

Hamilton does not expect favours from Fernando
QUOTE
It is a sign of Lewis Hamilton's burgeoning maturity that he neither wants nor expects any favours from Fernando Alonso this season.

If Hamilton is to grace his maiden Formula One year with a win, he wants to be safe in the knowledge he beat McLaren team-mate and reigning double World Champion Alonso fair and square.

Just three months ago, when Hamilton's rapid rise to Formula One stardom was confirmed, you would have received long odds from any bookmaker betting on such a prospect.

But over the winter months, and his 165mph smash in testing at Valencia in January aside, Hamilton appears poised to be a worthy adversary to Alonso.

The 22-year-old British rookie has been consistently quick, and on occasion has even outpaced the more experienced Spaniard.

Admittedly, it is hard to read too much into testing times, but on the surface the signs are positive for Hamilton, who has long been groomed for success by McLaren boss Ron Dennis.

Although he was GP2 Series champion last year, when those first five red lights disappear at Melbourne's Albert Park to signal the opening grand prix of the season, that is when Hamilton's mettle will be truly tested.

"It's important to understand how tough a challenge it's going to be," conceded Hamilton.

"But I feel I'm absolutely ready. I had a fantastic season winning the GP2 Series against some very experienced drivers, but I have nothing left to prove.

"I know that F1 is going to be much tougher, but teaming up with Fernando is the best solution for me because I can learn so much from him.

"The important thing is I feel I've done everything I can for the first race so I'm not sitting there and saying, 'We didn't do this, we didn't do that.'

"I'm sure there will be mistakes, but you have to make mistakes to learn and become a better driver.

"I know I'm going to be making certain mistakes. That's just the way it is in the sport."

Hamilton's conviction, though, is unequivocal because when he says: "I know how to become the best. I just need time," you believe him.

As to how quickly he becomes the best remains to be seen, but his focus is sharp and he is far removed from the world that revolves around a normal 22-year-old.

"This is something I've wanted to do since...I can only imagine I was six when I saw Ayrton Senna racing for McLaren, and I sort of said I'd love to do that," recalled Hamilton.

"Ever since I got in a kart I've always wanted to drive. You have to make sacrifices, which I was always willing to make, as long as I could drive. I'll do it all again if I have to."

Appreciably, it helps when you have the support of someone such as Dennis, as Hamilton has for the last decade after being signed up on a development contract at the age of 12.

An estimated 」5million has since been spent on Hamilton, a project Dennis has described as his 'My Fair Lady experiment'.

Hamilton is understandably grateful, adding: "I first met Ron when I was 10 years old at an Autosport Awards ceremony.

"Listening to how he remembers the first time we met is special, and the faith, confidence and loyalty he's had in me over the years since has been key.

"I think it's a nice story - or the end of one story and the beginning of a new chapter."

Hamilton concedes his aim for this year "is simply to do a solid job for McLaren," but at the back of his mind you know he would love to savour a race victory.

That would mean beating Alonso first and foremost, never mind the rest of the field, but Hamilton is confident without being cocky and brave without being brash.

"At the end of the day I'm such a strong competitor. Whatever I do, I want to be up against the best and to beat the best," insisted Hamilton.

"As I'm sitting next to the best, I'm able to compare myself to him, to learn from everything he does, to eventually trying to beat him.

"But I'm very realistic. At the end of the day he is a two-time world champion and he is expected to be at the front.

"Clearly if we're in a competitive car, and he has some problems, then for sure there'll be an opportunity to win.

"But I'd prefer to be ahead of him, rather than him have a problem and me overtake. I'd rather be quicker than him, at the front and win."

Massa Can Upstage everyone
QUOTE
Felipe Massa, and not Kimi Raikkonen, could be the one to win the World title for Ferrari this season, according to some F1 personalities.

Massa has excelled in pre-season testing, dominating the timesheets at the recent test in Bahrain and breaking the circuit's lap record on the final day.

However, for some, the Brazilian's rise, which also saw him win two grands prix last season, has come as a bit of a surprise.

"I never believed Massa was so good," Renault team boss Flavio Briatore told Reuters.

"If you asked me about Massa at the beginning of the season, I thought he was kind of medium. But give him the right car and he's terrific."

The Ferrari driver has also received praise from former F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve.

He recently told F1 Racing magazine: "Massa will probably take over as team leader. He did a really strong job last year, made a few mistakes but didn't look too shabby next to Michael.

"He's intelligent, talented, quick. With the right equipment, he can be a title contender. Then we'll see if he's really a great, or just a good, driver. But he could be great."

Another driver who believes Massa could challenge for this year's World title is reigning F1 Champ Fernando Alonso.

"Everybody thought that Kimi (Raikkonen) was coming to Ferrari and staying ahead and being number one and now everybody's realised that Felipe is very quick as well," said Alonso last week.

"For me it's not a surprise. Either of them can win."
