well i beg to differ, the main culprit is the rear wing and additional winglets just like in the article quoted by virgil. You see, a F1 car left a turbulence or dirty air at the rear of the car. As a result, the following cars' aerodynamic setup is compromised.
*
My point of view was base on having more effective aero to be able to generate more front end downforce when running in this turbulence air. tongue.gif When FIA raised the front wing and brought forward the rear wing, it is to reduce aero efficiency, and that also mean a much more worse efficiency when running in a car's turbulence air.

If their solution is aiming at reducing the turbulence, then maybe they should look back at last year's split rear wing hmm.gif ... though its ugly as hell.

I agree with verx that removing those small winglets won't change thing much. They are more to directing airflow around the cars. At the end, its the rear wing that cause the turbulence.

imo, the rear wing will not work 100 % aerodynamic-ly without all the little winglets with today' spec and regulations. Years ago F1 cars are lower and wider with slicks tyres, nowadays cars are higher and narrower with groove tyres.

you and verx have a point there, removing the winglets doesnt effect much at all.

this is all because of FIA's own doing ... of finding ways to slow F1 cars ... now they face such problem.

let them have slicks again ... let them build cars that almost touch the ground again .... let them reach 400kmph on the straights ... aHaHhAhAha. laugh.gif

F1 is too safe nowadays IMHO.

You read my mind! thumbup.gif
But I wouldn't want the cars too low for safety reasons. Slicks is the main thing i want back. More mechanical grip should compensate the lack of aerodynamic efficiency. At least with TC gone there would be more overtaking manouvres...from mistakes instead of course tongue.gif

^yep, i agree...

The ground effect, if I'm not mistaken, was banned long long time ago, before the front/rear wings was intro to F1. They are so effective that time that it was ban to make sure F1 is not too technical and lose the driver factor... Now they will ban TC too, for the same reason.

No TC + slick would have been great biggrin.gif

I wonder if it will really produce cleaner air at the rear....

From what i hear, slicks might be coming back with the new concorde agreement. Less winglet = less rear downforce = more the teams develp the rear wing to maximise the downforce as possible = more turbulent air. See where I'm going here?

Wings first appear on a F1 car in 1968 season. Ground effect was introduced in Formula One mid to late 70's.

actually you are not totally wrong, teams in those days (60's) already had tested the ground effect idea, but only successfully implemented in the 70's

Valencia will host a Grand Prix from 2008 after agreeing a deal with Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

The race, to be called the European Grand Prix, is scheduled for late in the season on a newly-designed circuit around the Spanish port's streets.

The seven-year agreement is conditional on the People's Party holding power in local elections to be held this month.

The new deal means Spain will have two Grands Prix next year, with Barcelona staging the other.

Ecclestone has previously said that no European country should have more than one race.

The Valencia circuit will be between 4.1-4.3km (2.5-2.7 miles) long and its harbourside location is bound to draw comparisons with the Monaco Grand Prix.

According to Spanish media, Ecclestone insisted the race must be on a street circuit rather than the nearby Ricardo Tormo track in Cheste which hosts a round of the MotoGP and is also used for F1 testing.

Valencia's willingness to pay an estimated 26m euros (£17.5m) to stage each race as well as the boom in popularity of F1 in Spain, sparked by the emergence of double world champion Fernando Alonso, are seen as major factors behind the decision.

Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, where the Spanish Grand Prix will be held this Sunday, has an agreement to stage a race until 2011.

Just wanna add, its all about the politics! And it stinks!

Bernie to sign the contract only if Generalitat Valenciana party wins the election is a mere manipulation of that country's politics!

Worst of all, i heard that the party that is dealing with Bernie is a conservative one, and the competition of the election is said to be very tight. Now with all the Valencia GP going on, i doubt that there will be any competition left.

Ugliness is all i can say. mad.gif

If this is so, i demand the San Marino GP back in the calendar!

It was taken off completely for the 2007 season. And i dont think it is under construction, maybe there is.... due to frequency of accidents that happen there and the history behind it.

But one thing for sure, it initiates the 1 country 1 GP. So if Spain were to have the Valencia GP, then that means that there is some conspiracy going on..

the improvement is such great? Almost half to a full sec quicker a lap? If that's true, I think we are in for a boring race again. 2 Ferraris up front leaving the rest of the pack behind.

Bernie wants the facilities in Imola to be upgraded, IINM the whole pit garage was torn down in October last year.

Bernie has hinted if the works in Imola finished in time, the circuit may feature in next year calendar, which is by the way is getting bigger and bigger. Wonder what circuit will be axed next?
