Not sure what you meant by impatient & power cycle the router when the router was running for 2 days straight before I reboot it
Didn't do anything while it was rebooting. Didn't even disconnect the power cable
*
The very first time you first boot after uploading the xwrt-vortex for this particular router. You could have thought you failed & re-flashed again. I'm not talking about the first time you login. It is what it is. Unless you damn sure you only flashed once & never power cycle it after that flash. This is very unlikely for most people. Most of you will flash it near your pc/laptop & move it near your modem after successful flash & configuration.

I haven't power cycle the router at all
Also, I've never seen that message before until last night's reboot

jio Addendum:

jio would a factory restore fix this?
And if I reboot again but never saw those kind of messages anymore, would it be safe to presume it's just a fluke?

Also, previously I've connected an external HDD to test file transfer speed but has since disconnected the HDD, does this have anything to do with the error?

You will only get error when there is access on those particular block. It could be done by the system access with the JFFS2 filesystem. I already told you how to fix this. I too had 1 out of 5 Huawei with incomplete JFFS2 erase/format, most likely due to I thought the first flash attempt failed. I dump /dev/mtd* for all the router before and after I flash each router with xwrt-vortex & I encounter I/O error on the JFFS2 /dev/mtdblock4 partition with 1 of the router. Every attempt to read those blocks result with the same error message. I advise you to erase & reformat the JFFS2 before you start using OpenVPN or custom scripts.

JFFS2 is enabled by default ever since the the OpenVPN certs are stored in it instead of nvram. JFFS2 in AsusWRT-Merlin used to be enabled manually to be formatted on the next boot if you need custom script support. Asus-WRT also have a bug where it will stop erasing the rest of the blocks in their mtd erase function once it encounter a bad block. Not sure if it is already fixed or not. But if that that is reason, you will know it from the system log as the kernel will scan for & list the bad blocks during boot. You can see the example with one of my AC56U.

Factory reset won't fix it. I don't think you can trigger reformat of the JFFS2 anymore as the OpenVPN certs will be gone after that. You may have to mtd erase first.

The error clearly state MTD ECC. MTD device is the NAND flash.
thankyou

@sHawTY, is your IPv6 firewall working? I have it enabled but I'm still able to ping to my home server IPv6 from my hosted server.

By doing the "mtd-erase2 brcmnand" command & reformat jffs paritition, will it erase the AsusWRT firmware?

Just want to confirm before I do it

1. mtd-erase2 brcmnand will erase it. Only the JFFS2 will be erased, won't affect anything else.
2. Then go to Administration>System>Persistent JFFS2 partition>Format JFFS partition at next boot & enable it.
3. Reboot & done.

Your end devices such as notebook/server should have a Public IP assigned. You will have to perform a ping or anything i.e RDP/TCP SYN test to your end device Public IP.

by right it should be blocked by AsusWRT firewall but somehow, my ICMPv6 has pass through the router.

Update
--------
- ICMPv6 pass through
- RDP requires firewall rule before you can connect to the end device

Just noticed, AsusWRT IPv6 firewall seems applicable to TCP/UDP (not sure what's others protocol) only...

You can add your own firewall rules & put it in the firewall-start in jffs2
