Best bet is to get a 3,4 yr Iriz 1.6. Plenty of power and planted at medium triple digit speed.
*
Actually myself looking for 1.6 manual

Usage 90% city ,avg daily<20km

Low maintenance & repair cost, reliable, plan to use at least 5 years, plan after 2,3 years to have kid

Prefer monthly expense below 1k, means include installment, maintenance(yearly maintenance/12) ,insurance, exclude petrol

*
Suggest 2nd hand cheap but reliable car for daily use until baby arrives. If you are not familiar with cars, then any new entry level Proton or Perodua will give u 5 year warranty for peace of mind. Daily 20KM is damn little, I would ride my scooter wink.gif on congested Pg Island roads, mainland perhaps not due to too many heavy vehicles.

Meanwhile, can start saving for bigger, safer car that will cater for kids in future.

QUOTE(lawrencehl @ May 10 2021, 10:10 PM)

In this price range myvi seems to be a good choice, any comment about Ativa low spec?
*
Ativa X 62K (till Jun2021) has better handling than the stock Myvi due to its DNGA platform. A plethora of safety systems even for lowest spec that should keep the average driver happy.

Apart from the big boot (to fit the 16/17" full size spare), interior is about Axia size, the rear seats has 3cm less leg room than the Myvi. Almost fold flat seats when storage takes precedence.

Love the 1KR-VET engine after the initial takeoff as it pulls strongly from low rpm when turbo kicks in making it a breeze to drive in city. Highway speed is surprisingly stable as well as mentioned earlier, have tested it above 160 kmh no issue with its advance dual belt/gear transmission combo giving 16-17km/l mix town/ highway.

Pay extra 7K over the Myvi AV for the new chassis/ platform providing a higher ride with greater ground clearance for slight floods. Else the Myvi and its cheaper (less safety items) variants should suffice.

1. Brand : Suzuki Swift 2012 / Perodua Myvi 2012-2016 / Perodua Axia 2014-2017
2. Budget : RM30k
3. New/Used/Unreg. : Used
5. Transmission : Auto

Just want something to fetch and send child to school.

I'm looking for a small car

so initially i prefer Axia

In terms of appearance i prefer Axia's look

So thats how i thought of Swift as i like the appearance (still look trendy) even though the interior is super basic

my main concern here is maintenance and cost for service/repair. Local car will be easier and cheaper

Also since Suzuki no more here, is it actually harder to get parts and did the maintenance price go up as well

*
New Axia Standard G (AT) RM33K 5 year warranty

Since you are new to cars and also fetching kid, chances of a new car breaking down is very much lower (compared to 2012 car). Less worry for you and husband too.

Forgot to mention the bezza is in insurance claim due to accident.

Need a second car.
*
On handling alone, if u happy w Bezza, then Axia will do fine.

If you felt the Bezza like sampan and need something better, eg. For highway drive, then Saga handles better but at the expense of higher fuel and lower resale in future.

Never have experience on used car before, would it be advisable to own an used car in terms of maintenance?

*
Used cars need some knowledge on the brand, model to maintain once the warranty runs out. Say Xtrail gearbox breakdown, do you know where to take it to ?
If you prefer not to worry, new car not to say no problems, at least you are sure where to send.

How do you find the Bezza after 4-5 years ? If you want to continue with a sedan, then the Vios is not a bad choice.
If you wanna try SUV/ Crossovers like Xtrail, Forester then for a new car can consider testdrive Ativa after MCO

upgrade MyVI 1.3.
reliable and cheap to maintain

X50 and x70 interior does caught my eye
sedan.

1. Brand : Any - not Perodua
2. Budget : max 100k
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :  NA
7. Type : 4 seater, sedan
8. Remarks : Interior, reliability and safety
*
Upgrade from 1.3 is likely 1.5NA
Reliable and low maintenance recommend buy new & exclude German.
Sedan No Perodua
Interior design subjected to personal taste

Only 4 (new) Sedans meet the criteria stated.
Almera, Vios, City, Persona.

Second hand models wait others to comment.

1. Camry 2.0 (looking at year 2016 or onwards)
2. Altis (not sure if i want a new or second hand)

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

Curious, have you considered

1. Mazda ?
2. New Corolla Cross on the latest platform.

Also what do u think about the X70 ?
As an alternative 7 seater as well when Myvi too small to carry bulk.

Have you or Macha gone to test out the Geely models (when MCO permits) ?

Try test drive Vios, Almera, City even Ativa as well when you can to make a better purchase decision.

After test drives, then perhaps can comment here for further feedback.

Ahhh if your budget has moved up from 100K+- to 130K,
Then the Cross is indeed worth considering vs the new HRV coming soon if not in a hurry.

Yup i did the same 'prediction' on the depreciation in value. I dont think i would lose much, probably just interest in loan only. But you know the current situation, a lot of uncertainties. Those are what had me a little bit worried tbh.
*
Getting a 60K car for 40K gives you a 20K buffer in case your situation goes south where you can still sell it off. Evaluate if worth the risk for a nice ride eg highway drive.

Family financial situation gets tighter though. If u really need another car, a 2016 Axia E goes around 10K but only for point A to B slow town drive with much lower maintenance.

So depends on your transportation need as well.

technically unless you have 60k cash then buy a 40k car you don't actually have a 20k buffer.
the difference between is roughly savings of rm300 per month in repayment (rm1000 - rm700).
*
You are wrong. The market value approximately 60K or more and the assumption is that it can be sold at that after acquiring it for 40K.

actually I'm eyeing x50, aruz or ativa. Still confusing so far and my usage more on sales, need spacious booth for putting material/sample etc also as family car.

My wife like x50 / 70 design and I'm thinking aruz for spacious booth. Saw forumer here said the major service and spare part for X series cost alot which abit scary man 😅😅😅.

Did look tru Mitsubishi asx but quite pricey around RM 1xxk, and back booth not spacious enough.

Need space ?

Hi all, planning to get my first car.

1. Brand : Any
2. Budget : 40-50k
3. New/Used/Unreg : New/Used
4. Transmission : auto
5. Remarks: Reliable and economical. Low maintenance cost.

So far I think Vios or City 2014 or 2015 are good options. What are your thoughts? Open to other suggestions as well. Thank you.
*
If you are looking at 6-7 year old B-Segment sedans,
Perhaps can find time to go test drive a brand new Persona.
Slightly higher fuel consumption (depending on how and where u drive) vs 5 year warranty peace of mind (since 1st car assume less experience w maintenance)

7. Type : Sedan

Should I get the car now to enjoy the sales rebate before 31 Dec 2021? Sales rebate for Proton Persona is around RM700.

Any other similar car models for recommendation?
*
Only 3 new sedan models at 50K budget.
Suggest test drive all of them Saga, Bezza, Persona to finalise your choice and
Plan for its delivery when you actually need it. Depreciation will be at least RM400 monthly

First car, looking for something reliable and moderate maintenance. Trustworthy. Less problems, easy to repair/find parts. I am not good with cars.

Toyota Hilux Double Cab 2.4AT 4x4

Reliable, plenty of parts and service centres, seldom breakdown and trusted worldwide.

5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI : No preference
7. Type : Small car
8. Remarks : Looking to replace mom's Preve to a smaller car for city runabout. Steering is too heavy for her. Eyeing on Kia Picanto or Ativa. Prefer Picanto but no new stock or prereg unit anymore. Only used unit available. Ativa is a bit above budget. Are there any other option except myvi Aixa and iriz?
*
Sedans like Saga, Bezza, Persona not preferred? Still smaller than Preve.

Myvi 1.5X new facelift with D-CVT ard 50K can testdrive it might perform similar to Ativa highway cruise at 140 kmh, town smooth acceleration w quiet gearbox
