yup smart so called auto transmission is actually is what im talking about, the design inside is still like manual transmission which still using a clutch with activated via the clutch operation actuator, which will start giving problem sooner or later..
sympthom are at time gear free by itself, reverse gear very hard to engage, and gear goes to 0 display while launching after stop for a while i.e: traffic light.

I was thinking getting a used 2006 smart forfour,~~ thinking to trade in with my Savvy AMT 2007, due to smart forfour safety features.

If this is the prob, basically I will face the same prob with savvy lor.... hmm.gif doh.gif
I even change the robotic for the gear after it reach 45km.

So,.......should I consider this as a good buy or forgo coz I've got a good deal (their selling below rm50k)? rclxub.gif

I'm an owner of the 2006 model.

Only 2 problems so far... clogged throttle body (easily solved, remove and clean with carburettor cleaner). 2nd is the steering rack failure (no choice, bought used from chop shop and replace).

Car is now problem-free.

The 4/4 has many advantages... one of it is cheap parts since it shared 60% with Mitsubishi Colt. And many parts are available from Proton itself.

Original disc pad will cost over 1.4k!

Just use pads for Waja or Volvo S40... cheap, less than RM 400 all around.

Before buying a cheap 4/4, do test around. Or better yet, PM me the car plate number and will run against SCM database to see if the car has accidents or not.

Agreed. Gearbox itself is ok but the motors... one for controlling the clutch and one for shifting gears are sensitive. Fortunately, a local mechanic here has done a motor replacement for less than RM 3k.

Never ever send a smart to normal workshop. U need a Merc specialist. I sent mine to Keng Chuan for routine service and software updates every few months. Recently had the power steering replaced for RM 3k (official from Merc is RM 10k).

Problem-free car with superior FC. Love the paddle-shifters too.

Depends. If u know where to shop, parts can be cheaper and easier to obtain. My smart is already 3 years old and everything is perfect.

What high maintenance? It shared 60% of parts with 2004 Mitsubishi Colt la!

Brakes 100% compatible with Proton Waja or older Volvo S40
Oil filter is 100% compatible with Proton Gen2
Oil sump nut is 100% compatible with Proton Wira 1.6 (4G92)
Wipers available from Tesco and Carrefour from RM 20 onwards
Clutch plate available from spare parts shop in Segambut for mere RM 1.3k and another RM 300 for installation

Only electronics is from Daimler-Mercedes which can be expensive if it breaks down.

Some u can service DIY such as electronic throttle body. Simply remove the throttle body, spray some carb cleaner and put it back. Will save RM 200 in service fee.

I did all the minor mods and servicing myself. If u love the car, u will find ways to minimize cost.

Great post describing same parts smile.gif. I'm wondering if the following parts are shared with other models:
1- V-Belt
2- wheel bearing.
3- Suspension.

I recently have the "Service brake" failure on my HUD and am thinking of flushing the brake fluid and replacing the pads. I was quoted 1.04k for the original pads - now I'm going to get it replaced with Waja parts smile.gif.

My steering rack failed 3 years ago - luckily I had C&C plead my case to MB and got it replaced for free.
