3 important questions which we need clarification for:

1) What guarantee do we have that the new leather seat covers have taken into account the special stitching required for deployment of the side airbags?
2) Would our warranties with Honda Malaysia be affected by this after market leather seat covers?
2) Who is Carbi's leather supplier and what type of leather are we getting? Nowadays imitation leather is so well manufactured that its very difficult to tell the difference

I believe it is just more than the stitching / sewing. It is also about a special thread that is used on the covers.

Workmanship is amazing.  Original seats have grey/black stitching.  I think it will look good with Red stitching and bits of Alcantara.  I find Alcantara much more comfortable vs. leather in our climate and it looks fantastic going with leather and red stitches.  Wonder how much it will cost going with Alcantara + leather...

Alcantara is somewhat a bad idea unless you are equipping a sports car who will see some competition use.

Alcantara is hard to take care unlike real leather. It will wear faster, have usage signs on it and not to mention inconsistent wear signs especially on the steering. I have an OMP steering which has some parts lighter than the other because it is the part which i usually grab the most. Not to mention, not quite nice to feel when you are sweaty and stuff.

As for pro's. Not sure, i think it is more grip than leather, maybe flame retardant and not sure what else.

Better be careful with dash cams and reverse cams especially with cars controlled by ECU's.

I installed a 3rd reverse cam on my new BMW and it messed up the on board electronics. Had to get it removed. I've now installed the original BMW reverse cam. Cost me RM4,715.

Might not be an issue with the Civic but best get it checked carefully before installation.

That is why units like Blackvue is becoming more popular nowadays because it doesn't mess with the wiring. It just plugs into the ciggie lighter and that's it.

If you want to see live, use your phone via wifi. Even rear cam also connects with front cam via wifi. Not really good integration, but also doesn't mess with shit in your car.

Dash cams are plug and play thing. No messing with onboard electronics like reverse camera

Actually reverse cam also do not mess with onboard electronics. It only tap power from the reverse lights as far as i know.

The switching of the display actually relies on the reverse signal fed to the presumably stock HU and with the video from the cam fed to it.

Aftermarket HU is totally another story most likely

So you guys did your tinting from outside ya? Any issue regarding the warranty when doing service?

Heard from my friend (Honda SA) that he receive a case of water leak on one of his client after he did his aftermarket tinted from outside. I told him is probably due to poor workmanship from the tinted installer. But he said they (Honda) will void the warranty due to 3rd party caused defect. laugh.gif

I'm in tinting industry myself and I will probably go for a combination of llumar air for fws, geoshield (geo 30) for back seats and ws along with clear 3m 16mil safety film for all side windows. (Yes, I do 2 layers tint, safety first then tint)

*the awkward combination is due to I'm taking whatever wastage I have on my warehouse stock laugh.gif *

For tinting, its better to get your Honda SA to install it for you at the dealership using their own contracted tint supplier/installer. If any warranty claims related to the tint installation, then its easier to settle.

yea i thought to so too, but their specs are so-so only and would cost about 2k+ to install.

If i do it myself (since I'm a distributor myself), I only need to pay about rm150 labour fee for installation. sweat.gif

Alcantara is just a fancy name for artificial suede (polyester+polyurethane instead of suede leather). It feels like suede but designed to be much more durable and stain resistant. Agree that for steering wheel, where it can absorb sweat and oil, it's probably not a good long term choice. Leather also needs care, and leather seats show wear over the years (becomes glossy and cracks at the edges over time).

To me if you are going to wrap cloth seats anyway, Alcantara is always the premium option when ticking the boxes in options for cars (Merc, Audi, Porsche, BMW, etc), you can consider a mix leather and Alcantara option (with the signature red stitching). It's much more comfortable vs. leather and does not squeak and gives good support without sliding around. Also feels like suede which is much nicer to feel vs. leather in my opinion.

Actually, i think genuine leather is easier to care for than alcantara. At least you can buy leather care products while i think there is none for Alcantara.

If care is taken, leather will take quite a bit long to crack.

I actually like alcantara, but usually just not on my daily driver.
