Hi Guys,

Currently I'm renting a HDB room (SGD600) in Bedok with 1 year contract. I'm thinking bout moving out from there and stay at JB because one of my sibling is will be working at JB. My mom request me to stay with him to watch over him since he is a freshgrad...

Based on you guys exp, can I just move out? I still have remaining 4 months contract with the owner for now....
*
Can't look back to your contract.

Mine if not wrong... From Dennis Wee Realty is... Minimum is 3 months. The contract is 1 year. Means if you stay less than 3 months you have to cover the rent until 3 months (I think?) and you lose the deposit too (or maybe count towards 1 of the months). Then after that if want to leave, will have to pay the other party (the contract can be ended by both tenant and the owner) the prorated agent fee. Like if you stay half year then you have to pay them 50% of the agent fee they paid to the agent at first.

If not wrong is something like that... You really have to read back to know.

Alamak. I think i better consult the agent first la for advise. Couldn't affort to pay 2 rents at 1 time lol. Me is bangla level only, but think like godlike stays at SG. Kahkahkag...
*
You consult the agent first he/she sure ask you don't move... You know why?? Their contract with the owner will stipulate if the tenant leave within "N" month(s) (normally 3), they have to find one new tenant for the owner.

oh ok, so about this EP, what do I need to do before the processing can begin?

the medical check up has to be done before company can apply for me?
*
Company submit all your details to MOM.

MOM will decide whether your application is approved.

Upon receiving IPA (in-principle approval), you will need to carry out body check.

Once body check done, go MOM do thumbprint then only you formally complete the EP process.

Anyone knows how i can setup 12 month GIRO to pay the IRAS income tax via internet banking?
Do i just setup monthly recurring transfers myself, at the tax total divided by 12?
*
QUOTE(totti 10 @ Jun 21 2016, 11:05 PM)
Man I just got the letter today as well. A bit shocked how moving to another bracket changes the amount drastically. From the letter you received from IRAS, there's a column where you can tick "monthly". Send the form back to them and you're good

Cheers
*
Why everyone receive d I haven't receive.

Singpass also just sent me SMS few days back saying will register the 2FA for me (EP holder)

i see, that means it would be impossible to open a bank account if i've not found a place to stay yet, correct?
to be honest, im unsure about all this as well, guess we're stuck on the same boat  rclxub.gif

You'll need to be here to sign the contract.

In fact some agent/landlord won't entertain you if you are not calling from Singapore number. You also have to come here to view the rooms at least.

Unsure whether you can rent the house without the EP and also whether you can open the bank account. I waited until I get my EP. Got my first month in cheque instead of bank in.

NEX is it like Sunway Pyramid? Mid valley those type? looks quite good from the outside... got cheap food or not?
*
Don't worry about food. Even if you stay in Orchard, you will be able to find cheap food too. Just have to know where to look. Unless you stay somewhere near dempsey hill then no guarantee you get cheap food la biggrin.gif

The bottom line, you should able to get Kopitiam or other food court in shopping malls. But you most probably will be able to find smaller cafe just below HDB or a hawker centre nearby. Those will be cheaper compared to what you get in shopping malls.

QUOTE(knwong @ Jun 26 2016, 02:50 PM)
To me there's no shopping mall in SG that stands out

You'll get bored eventually
*
biggrin.gif One thing that SG shopping malls stand out compared to MY is... The crowd!!!!

If you think KLCC is crowded, it's like any shopping mall in SG is more crowded than that. Places like Vivo and Nex are insanely crowded...

You still have to do medical checkup before you get to do the thumbprint.

QUOTE(commtrader @ Jun 26 2016, 10:24 PM)
For easier online transfer of money to Malaysia -> DBS
For higher interest rate (provided u use it for salary acc) -> OCBC

These are the local bank with many branches available.

Of course you still can choose CIMB, Bank of China, Stanchart and any others for your specific preference. Or else stick to local bank would be better.
*
OCBC haha... Want open few months d lazy go open. Work too busy doh.gif

How much for the remittance charge ? (for let say around $3K)
It is done thru online or have to approach to bank counter ?
Thanks in advance.
*
No charge. Online. But take note MUST do it during office hour on a weekday. Otherwise the rate might not be what you see when you perform the transaction.

The rate will be slightly lower compared to cash but alright for me.

high interest lol. the difference is so marginal it doesn't matter
*
Nah... OCBC vs DBS still quite significant difference.

OCBC360 if you debit your monthly salary into it, let say you got 60k savings (coz their bonus interest applies to mostly first 60k only), you're probably receiving ~$65 per month. If you can spend $500 on their credit card & pay 3 bills online, you get another ~$50.

But DBS probably give you... $2?

Quite a lot actually doh.gif

My concern is, is not getting E pass or S pass something I need to be worried about.
*
Open POSB bank account must go specific brunch not every brunch can open.

Extra deposit for phone

Counted towards their quota for foreign worker need MYE to apply the pass but to be worried by employer not you

But protected under the employment act (or something like that, can't remember) which EP holder may not be covered.

Make no mistake... I often meet WP holder that fetches home more than me doh.gif Most of the time they got OT but EP holder like me work like kuli still same pay

your boss could either be honest, submit EP for less than the required salary, then see if MOM approve the EP, or...
submit fake salary declaration on the application form, which is a criminal offence.. up to your boss loh...

to comply or not, to approve or not, not our call.. biggrin.gif
*
Mine was submitted less than 3k. Quite a number of my colleagues from MY too. And submitted salary is right what we get for our salary. Less than 3k not to say 3.3k doh.gif

QUOTE(the99percent1 @ Jul 26 2016, 07:31 PM)
Says who? Never heard of anyone getting ep below the required  minimum salary.

Also, I hope they don't raise the minimum required income to bring in family.. 5k is already ridiculously high. Wat the gomen of singapore think? Worker here meant as slave.. ? No time even for family..
*
A lot la... So many of my friends fresh here less than 3k still getting their EP.

But why the new rule says up to 3 years? EP previously can apply 3 years??

Mine too. Got EP but salary is less than 3k. I don't know if this is illegal. I didn't ask my HR why either. And I'm not sure why my EP is only valid for 1 year? It is usually 2 years, right?
*
Nah it's not illegal. You can key in using the MOM tool to identify which pass fits your criteria.

Even if you key in below 3.3k (previous min salary for EP), it will show that you qualify for EP.

Malaysian always so special in SG biggrin.gif

Mine was 2 years. Not sure how long my HR going to renew mine though. Longer one maybe harder to apply? No?

is it normal for company to deduct 5% of your salary for tax purposes ? Attached screenshot from my offer letter.
*
I have to pay on my own la... But company do all the tax filing thing with the payroll system. Just need to file tax refund if any.

I'm not sure if a company can pay tax on behalf/for its employees. hmm.gif

But if can that means the balance from the accumulated 5% pay will be credited back to your account after they pay the tax for you. 5% retention though. No good no good.

But again... You already here in SG or still thinking to accept the offer or not?

QUOTE(loverukianini @ Jul 31 2016, 10:51 AM)
hi, im a fresh graduate looking to finding an audit job in sg. Anyone know whats the std salary for fresh grad in mid tier as well as small audit firm right now? my friend used to say around $2800-3000 but thats for big 4 and they are only interested in experienced foreigners right now according to my lecturer so no hope for me.

and is it advisable to include our expected salary in our cv?

the std rate for a small room is around $600 but what if i dont need air-cond? would it be cheaper and if so by how much?
i alr had enough of sharing room with ppl back in my uni days cuz im very sensitive to light and sound and suffered insomnia as a result. so if possible im really like to stay in a cheap small room all to myself.

thx to all the kind-hearted sifus in advance happy.gif
*
That's a rare "Female" tag here in WIS Thread.

It could be harder now coz SG just recently (few days back) raised the salary bracket for EP to 3.6k.

Although Malaysian can get EP even with 2.5k. It could be a chance to us too since it's now more stringent to hire foreigners (excluding M'sian?).

Not finance/banking/audit field. Just dropped by for that female tag to say Hi icon_rolleyes.gif

With and without aircond not really much difference here. Most rooms for rent here are probably with aircond.
It gets quite hot sometimes in the year.

Other than that... Bigger part of it is area dependent. If you can travel further daily to work, you can get probably 150-200 off similar conditioned room.

600-650 in the central area is super rare. Standard rent for single common room without attached bathroom easily 750-800 in central area (Red hill/tiong bahru/teluk blangah etc).

All the way till Buona Vista/Clementi also similar price range. Don't even think about staying near Orchard/CBD biggrin.gif
