Hey folks, here's a story, seeking your opinion here.

Sounds trivia, but the story's about ermm...electricity usage.

I've been renting for a while with this family here at Tampines. For almost the past one year, I'm seldom at home.

Day time at work, OTs and outings in the evening, and I return to KL almost every two weeks consistently to see my family.

2 weeks back, I purchased a gaming laptop and as you might have guess, I've been hiding at home gaming away in the evenings and weekends...with some extended usage in throughout the midnight and the AM hours. But of course, I still go back every two weeks to see my family.

The landlord now is seeking compensation for the additional electricity that I'm using. Is this common practice?

QUOTE(simonhtz @ Jan 2 2017, 02:43 PM)
Hey Kim, thanks for the feedback. I'm discipline with the AC usage.

Now, is the erm...my gaming laptop honeymoon period hence the extended gaming use at night.
*
hmm.gif Except AC, shouldn't have anything extra to charge to you leh...

My rental included AC but as far as I remember, for the past 1 year I only on it for like... Maybe 30-40 hours.

This is my second year. My first year here I use more often coz hotter (placebo? biggrin.gif )

Anyway... This way I'm already using a lot less... If they come and jump I take the contract show them lo...

I believe the utilities part should be listed under your contract. Check the contract and see? I believe is only writing about AC usage and Washing Machine usage. The most is say... Don't keep the lights on when you're out that sort of thing.

Another way... You can try do the calculation for them for your gaming laptop. Gaming laptop I believe your adaptor max out 120W. Give 20% power loss, 150W. 1kWh = 6.67hours x 150Wh Take 1kWh PUB charge $0.3 (not sure about this rate but about there la... inclusive GST). It costs $0.3 for you to play your laptop for 6.67 hours. If you play 6 hours per day for 30 days a month, only $9...

How to charge? doh.gif Even include having the lights on at night at most also $11-$12. How to charge arh? doh.gif

Ask for 8.5% increment on your base salary. Worked out to roughly your AWS figure. Do not sign a new contract if it means taking out 1 month of your annual income.
*
Then no increment/promotion for the next 3 years biggrin.gif

Happened in my company for a different case.

One freshie entered the company with a higher salary than other freshies. He asked for it and the company has given.

But end of the year, this poor fellow didn't get bonus while others are getting average 2 months.

Totally not worth the few hundred higher salary compared to the bonus he's lost doh.gif

Hahaha tats y I previously tell u all just come whenever u got the chance, gain experience in Malaysia for one or 2 yrs equals to nothing to SG company. Eventually u still need to lowball urself to lower salary making urself unhappy or compete with SG freshie

Especially in finance / business / banking

Else stay put in Malaysia and reaches really high position beforr jump here, my cousin with big 4 for few yrs in Penang before transfer to SG

Handsome pay
*
Not really true for every case. Should be case per case.

I got friends who worked 1 year in MY but programming field, joined SG later fetching ~4k.

Handsome pay compared to mine doh.gif

Which bus u took ?

Looks like I am really lucky
*
doh.gif Don't mention. The bus is good the seat is good and I think caused delayed too long many passengers not boarding so many empty seats.

But the driver a bit slack, here stop there stop (but I think some passenger wanted to pee or something) then reach SG custom wait again doh.gif Maybe earn extra help other company bring passenger to beach rd.

so far which is the best method to remit money back to MY?
as in best rates that you old timers in SG observed so far
*
QUOTE(huaweie5830 @ Feb 1 2017, 09:50 AM)
Small amount = any money changer no big different

Most convenient = sit at your computer use CIMB SG ransfer to CIMB MY immediately but worst rate, or use any other bank online transfer , but got extra charges (unknown amount coz varies across the bank) but recently some banks doing promotion , got discount on charges

Best rate = only if u got large amount of money, directly do TT at those reputable money changer, example The Arcade , receive within one, two days , rate can refer here https://cashchanger.co/sgd-to-myr . But always long q, and you need to purposely go there during office hour.
*
QUOTE(huaweie5830 @ Feb 1 2017, 10:14 AM)
normally money changer will be higher than tat

https://cashchanger.co/sgd-to-myr

Tis website is cash exchange rate , so TT will be even higher than that
But if u didn't change much, not really a big different , jus go ahead bah
*
For me is hands down DBS remit online. The convenience + safety + no TT charges + not so bad rate (sometimes it will go higher than money changer when the demand of the paper bill is high). Save on transport also and I can transfer basically anytime anywhere (just avoid the non office hour due to the rate changes la). Even say like .05 lower, how much difference it makes if I transfer only 1000-2000 each time. Go money changer also need money leh biggrin.gif

Thanks. But Transferwise is reliable? Because usually will send by large sum. And is it able to send to any bank?
*
I normally using DBS to remit online. At least DBS won't eat my money biggrin.gif Always send to Maybank so far never fail.

QUOTE(RickJames09 @ Feb 8 2017, 10:43 AM)
Yes very reliable from my previous experience. Have been using it for the past 3-4 years. Never encountered any bad experience. Yes, any bank.
*
How about the rate? Good? The rate that it shows when we key in at the website accurate?

QUOTE(simonhtz @ Feb 8 2017, 01:33 PM)
Err...I think "can" is more annoying. Not annoying per se, but well, it's like a signature. smile.gif
*
I can't understand "sia" and sometimes in msg my colleague always type "gg" which for gamers it stands for good game but they treat it as gotta go/gonna

I think other still ok biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif OCBC 360 interest too good. Dump all my savings there. The interest difference is like 40 times. i.e. $4 vs $0.4 something like that doh.gif

So... That $2 fall below fee actually also not much compared to the interest given by OCBC360 biggrin.gif

does the bonus takes into account the monies we have in their time deposit?

so... interest calc is based on first 60k. Does the time deposit make up part of the 60k? I cant find in the faq maybe I'm blind
*
I don't think so... I think I saw it somewhere before.

QUOTE(knwong @ Feb 25 2017, 11:23 PM)
Yes. I qualify all, salary, cc, 3 GIROs except for their investment bonus
I don't think so. Must buy their fund, unit trust, etc. I'm not interested in those thus never bother.
Just drop OCBC a visit to understand more. Worth the time since this give you $100 x 12 moo lah a year
*
drool.gif

I only salary and savings. But still a lot more than just putting it in POSB. Enough for a meal biggrin.gif

Cannot only have savings no investment? I don't yet have 50k now just think that it's not that hard to achieve. But 0 investment purely save for the sake of saving.
