yes, i still see strong bulls supporting the market. if bears unable to take it down by end of this month, we may actually met our bottom 2 weeks ago, and the bottoming process has been happening quietly. Unless, of course, Trump did something crazy again. I still don't see any major damage to the economy by the covid-19, mainly because its damage is not unpredictable. Financials are still strong and stable, "essential large companies" are still strong although profit will be delay for 3 to 4 quarters if not 2 to 3 quarters. Small or weak companies may not survive, yes, but this may not be a bad thing. It will accelerate the process of M&A and business integrations. Later, market will be more neat, although less competitions mean less pricing power for consumers, but i don't think the situation can turn severe. I'm expecting some revisits to recent lows maybe a few times before the bull returns. Just wild guess lah! I'm always very bad at TA  laugh.gif

be patient, as u r, always. biggrin.gif

the fall was very fast, very steep, gotta rebound somewhat.

+ all the stimulus + all the big bulls with big cash = big bear not arrived yet.

when more bad data comes out, the sentiments will change quickly... then with 1 trigger, u get there. tongue.gif

when... 2 weeks, 1 qtr, 1/2 year? when full impact is known?

whatever, the way some thing works incl stocks may be changed 4ever as this epidemic is not going away so soon.

a couple years? or until an effective cure or vaccine is developed... but is elusive.

i still trade sometimes, not only buy for long term. so the big swings are good for trading short term, target at 10%-15% swing.  laugh.gif

however, my 75% stocks still holding. i'm only playing with the 25% cash on short term trading. i'm still a Buffet supporter.  biggrin.gif

Buffet is right about trading. If we don't hold, if we only follow TA to buy in, we'll miss the huge portion of the rebound. ie in current market. if we only buy after bullish indicator hit, we'll probably buy above 2800. That case, if the bottom is 1800, we'll miss 55% gap on profit. If the mid term peak is 3500, we'll be missing a 55% for a 25%.
*
i'm just the opposite.

i am hold 25%, 75% ready to go.

very strong feeling the worst hasn't come.

meanwhile, monday...

it's crazy...

So whats the take guys? Are we going to see another major leg down before going up or is the bottom in place as Goldman Sachs is now saying?

key assumption:

“If the U.S. does not experience a second surge in infections after the economy reopens, the ‘do whatever it takes’ stance of policy makers means the equity market is unlikely to make new lows,” said Kostin.

almost everyday that fauci guy (yet trump wants to fire him) is saying "flattening, peaking" but is always very loosely qualified.
even spain, italy dare not say peak yet.... only $ analysts are singing this peak song everyday.
it took china >11 weeks to get a hold on it.
and nobody dare say china economy is getting back on track.
"do whatever it takes"... is somewhat a misnomer... full of hot air.

nothing is clear unit 1q earnings start to come out.

i wait...

I really no longer understand this market. JPM just forecast quite serious recession later this year, IMF just gave warning the world might experience the worst depression ever since 1930s... especially if the health situation not improve next year. I believe properties, tourism including casino, cruise, airline, etc should be virtually no business or maybe less than 40% for the next 6 months. In fact I don't think things will improve until we have cure or vaccine...

Yet market pre market up big. Strange.
*
this cud be a case of too much cash chasing after too little earnings.

esp when int rates are about to go negative.

strange days indeed.

IMF's GDP growth projections for all global regions / countries as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

China, India and the ASEAN region is expected to weather this storm very well with only average impact in 2020 and even projected to become economic powerhouses in 2021 compared to Europe and US.

*
situation in china is clearer but india... it just started, hard to gauge.

possibly like post WW2, some nations will recover faster than others.

the interesting question for us here is post covid19, will we still be counting on palm oil exports?!

i doubt there is any post covid19 plan at this time.... about growing more food, new industries, new ways to earn fx, etc.

U.S. consumer activity took a massive blow in March due to the rapidly spreading and deadly coronavirus outbreak. According to the U.S. Commerce Department, retail sales during the month nosedived, reflecting the devastating impact of social distancing and job losses.

Headline retail sales plunged a record 8.7% during March, which was worse than the 8% decline expected by economists. Core retail sales, excluding the volatile auto and gas components, fell 3.1%, better than the 5.2% estimated decline. Retail sales dipped 0.4% and core retail sales sank 0.2% in February.

Within core components, consumer spending online rose 3.1% and jumped 26.9% at grocery stores.

However, sales at department stores sank 23.9%, furniture stores saw a 26.8% drop in spending, sporting goods sales fell 23.3% and spending at clothing retailers plummeted the most at 50.5%.

Meanwhile with quarantine measures implemented in many regions across the country, non-core components also saw some hefty declines in activity. Auto and auto parts sales plunged 25.6% and gas sales fell 17.2%. Sales from food services was down 26.5%, but spending on building materials increased 1.3%.

Yes, that's just ridiculous. So, those lower wage earners in US benefited the most here.

The system would just encourage them to stay unemployed for now.

It's better still for those who are just furlough.. but not completely layoff.
When their company resumes operation, they get called back to work.
During this time, it just one big giant 2-3 months PAID holiday PLUS...

They're getting extra $1200 from IRS per single individual, $2400 per couple plus $500 for every child as one time.

AND....US congress is proposing $2000/month for the next 6 months...  doh.gif
