well if u r going to use that just for computer usage, I would say better go for normal monitor

because TV got many other components eg tv antenna port, USB port, HDMI port, AV sound ports, speakers which you are not using . more components means more headache especially when it is spoilt

If you prefer tv for your desktop, you need a higher pixel density tv so the text will not be blurry.

Depending on where you put your desktop, if you are surfing from a couch, then get a tv.

Personally I prefer monitor so I dont need to strain the eyes when reading texts.

If comparing the IPS panel, view angle and accurate colour, monitor is better than 32inch tv right?

Curved monitor have disadvantages, the viewing angles, you need to be directly in front of the monitor or else the picture will not look right.

Here's some monitors around your budget with 27 inch screen.

Both of have pros and cons.

I have been using a 47 inch TV (1080p) as my monitor for 3 years. Personally it is ideal for me in terms of movies, gaming and also to some extent work as well.

However, you need living setup for that as the screen is too big for desktop purposes (even for the case if the TV screen is 32 inch)

27 inch at 1080p - better don't get that. It would look terrible on it and 1440p will be a much suited resolution at this size. icon_idea.gif

Most LED / LCD TV at 32inch are HD (ie. 720p). Usually 40inch above would be 1080p.

I am planning to get a 4K TV. Perhaps next year.

I think you would do well with the 27 inch monitor.

Don't go with TV in that case. I am using another 32 inch TV provided by the owner as my monitor in my bedroom. Won't recommend it.

Get an IPS LED Monitor, if any.

1440p at 27 inch is perfect biggrin.gif

But hard to get new ones for his price.

Nowadays, there are a few options for 24 inch 1440p and 27 inch 4K.

TV is not suitable for gaming because
1. Colour - TV colour is normally worse than monitors
2. Response time - Normally TV has much higher response time, so for playing games you will feel the "lag"
3. Lower lifetime - from my own experience TV usually break down much quicker than monitors, in fact I never have any monitors that become faulty before while the living room had already gone through 2 or 3 TVs

My experience:

1. Colour - Maybe. To me, I can't really tell that much difference.
2. Response time - To some extent yes, can feel some form of lag but usually negligible.
3. Please elaborate.

I am currently using a TV as a monitor for more than 3 years. Should I expect it break down in the next few months? Many of my friends owned TV which lasted more than 5 years so I am quite confused. Even my dad's plasma TV is still working for more than 7 years.

The older thicker LCD TVs.
This is based on personal experience.
Depends on luck, I suppose.
Any HDD I own never last more than 2 years.

But do you ever see a monitor break down?

All of the 32inch TV sold in Malaysia is only 1280x720. Not enough resolution for computer work.

1. HDD wise, I have HDDs lasting less than 1 year and HDDs lasting more than 5 years so it is mixed.

2. Monitor breakdown? Yes

I have a 24 inch Samsung LCD monitor which broke down 3 times (RMA thrice) within 2 to 3 years (can't exactly remember the date).

Also, another two monitors (ie. 17inch and 19inch Samsung LCD monitors) which stopped working entirely after 5 years. (can't switch on).

My experience shows TV and monitor last more or less the same. Then again, LCD TV is relatively new but it has gone for 6 years without issue. Meanwhile my monitor also around the same age. Some older LCD monitor has broken down after 5 years though.

just share my experience

few months ago i bought a sony 40inch tv and use it together with my dell 23inch as it's not syiok anymore watch movie on 23inch monitor

colour - if you use it for general use it's no difference

response time/input lag - TV is much slower than monitor but some TV have like below 20ms its not great but acceptable for gaming

reliability - same, it's all depends on luck..any brand will also break if unlucky..thru the years i lost count how many monitors and tv broken on me..electronis nowadays is like use and throw..nobody make things that last 10 years anymore like last time

to add:

pixel density - 1080p on 40inch tv text wont look as sharp compare to 23inch 1080p monitor, the bigger tv the worst

if you do alot text TV is not good unless go for those 4K tv, gaming depends what kinda games..but if like me abit of both of everything a tv is a good option or best of all use both together lol

Don't know it's QC problem or electrical component problem with electronics nowadays. RMA-ed BenQ monitor twice and Acer monitor button problem.  doh.gif

I agree with you. Reliability and durability is generally based on the luck of the draw regardless TV or monitors.

QUOTE(PowerSlide @ May 25 2016, 02:14 PM)
just share my experience

few months ago i bought a sony 40inch tv and use it together with my dell 23inch as it's not syiok anymore watch movie on 23inch monitor

colour - if you use it for general use it's no difference

response time/input lag - TV is much slower than monitor but some TV have like below 20ms its not great but acceptable for gaming

reliability - same, it's all depends on luck..any brand will also break if unlucky..thru the years i lost count how many monitors and tv broken on me..electronis nowadays is like use and throw..nobody make things that last 10 years anymore like last time

to add:

pixel density - 1080p on 40inch tv text wont look as sharp compare to 23inch 1080p monitor, the bigger tv the worst

if you do alot text TV is not good unless go for those 4K tv, gaming depends what kinda games..but if like me abit of both of everything a tv is a good option or best of all use both together lol

I agree with all your points above.

I had the same experience with you. Once I use the huge TV screen for movies, I don't feel like watching movies on anything less than 40inch TV.

I think to add with the use of big TV, easier to have local multiplayer games such as Street Fighter series, Double Dragon Neon and etc.

My LG 47inch TV is ips.

What do you mean by glow? Too bright?

Separately I am using a 27inch Benq Monitor at work (which I think it is a VA panel).

when on dark background or displaying dark scene ips will glow, its like someone shine a light thru the panel

its quite annoying to me, maybe because its a cheap ips panel cheap monitor so poor quality and the glow is much worse

That is what lazada gives:

http://www.lazada.com.my/panasonic-viera-3...v-10471659.html

Panasonic VIERA 32” Inch TH32A400 Full HD LED TV
Screen Size: 32 inch
Resolution: 1366x768

Or

http://www.lazada.com.my/sony-32-inch-kdl3...v-10479600.html

Sony 32' Inch KDL32R300C Full HD LED TV

Google same model, and notice it is too a 1366x768 model.

Lots of Malaysian vendors call their TV FHD, but the resolution is actually only 1366x768.
