Leodavinci,

you sit for STPM last year? how is your STPM result? how do you apply for NUS?

i sent email to NUS people before and they say there are higher chance of intake by a-level from singapore.

well, but i think if my result is geng, so there isnt much to worry about the intake right?

i not sure what subject are available for stpm (didnt know much about stpm) but CAL i can choose the best "combo" for architecture - physic maths chemistry/further maths
*
Yup! I sat for STPM last year. I got one A and three A-. That makes my CGPA 3.75. What I noticed is that NUS looks heavily on your MUET score apart from your STPM result. Those who got CGPA 4.0 but MUET Band 4 were rejected by NUS, not even given the 5th choice (by the way, there are 5 choices for you to fill in, unlike the 8 choices we have for local U). Two of my friends whose CGPA are slightly lower than mine are granted the entry to read Architecture in NUS also. And yes, one got Band 6 for MUET and another one got Band 5.

BTW, I applied through their website. www.nus.edu.sg

Oh ya, I took Biology, Chemistry, Math T and PA in STPM. Notice I didn't take Physics in form 6.

My friend who got CGPA 3.84 and MUET Band 4 is given her first choice (Chemical Engineering) in NUS. Guess that's not always the case eh?

well, it's gonna depend on other applicants as well. u see, it's not always about ur achievements. what others achieve (or in this case, didnt achieve) counts as well biggrin.gif.

for example, last years intake was pretty low for UTM's architecture. even 2.80 could get in. but a few years before, 3.30 couldnt even get a place. so just hope (or pray or wish or whatever that u do) that others applying the same course has worse results than urs smile.gif

Wah. You didn't take Physic but you still can get in to NUS to study architecture. that's amazing. i thought physic and maths is compulsory for architecture course. haha

When did you apply for the admission? Last year end with your forecast or this year a week after you receive your STPM result? 3.75 is really geng biggrin.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

IF i were to take a-level then to NUS, i dont have muet anymore right? that means i have to take those english test outside as to be considered to my qualification?

Well, I guess Azarimy has explained in his previous posts that Physics is not compulsory for those who wish to take Architecture. In fact, students from Art stream can also take Architecture in UTM. biggrin.gif

You can always check the NUS website after the STPM result is released. Surely you can find the link for application. icon_rolleyes.gif The application fee is S$20.

If you're not taking MUET, you can always take IELTS or TOFL. It's the same.

.

ii. math and physics are not the core of architecture. u've confused between architecture and civil engineering. architecture is more art/philosophy related than science.

iii. eco, geo and history should be more than enough to apply. intakes for architecture course do not distinguish between art or sci students as far as i'm concerned.
*
if i m not studying degree locally but overseas??does it still mean that all those subjects still the same(the requirement)i m now so confusing whether to switch to arts stream anot(math class)!!but if i wan to swtich to arts class,it`s better to go to math class rite??as it will be more easier if next time we wanna study courses that kinda got a bit related to science because we have math..is it true?? blink.gif

Form, Space and Order is a very old book...not sure you can still buy it. But UTM's library has Metric Handbook and FSO book. A good library should have actually... not sure bout UiTM wan though.

nope. physics is not necessary for architecture, but having it is a bonus. wouldnt u think that visual arts would be more needed in architecture? but it's not wink.gif. but maths is compulsory, just not add maths. this is the accepted standard worldwide, not just for msia.

if u dont have muet, u will still need an english certificate that indicates ur level of proficiency in that language, mainly IELTS or TOEFL. singaporean universities accept MUET bcoz being our neighbour, they are quite familiar with msian exams, although MUET is designed specifically for msian universities. other countries wont accept MUET as indicator of ur english.

u mean expensive? it depends. if u can obtain part time work to atleast pay for the rent, then it wont be that expensive. the main thing is just the rent and the related bills. food is pretty sustainable, ESPECIALLY if u cook. jangan mengada2 nak makan restoran tiap2 hari kalau takde duit tongue.gif hehehehe...

new drafting tables (complete set including the stand) should cost about RM400-RM600. if just tables (not including te stand) should be about RM200. i'm referring to artwright brand. others may differ.

i believe the easiest would be either kinokuniya or basheer in KL. not sure if there are other art related bookstores in shah alam.

- dwg with confidence should be about RM150
- FSO is about RM120 (but u can get very, very cheap if u buy 2nd hand from amazon.com)
- metric handbook is about RM150.

after graduating my degree, i worked for a firm in KL while situating in JB. the firm has a "controversial" project in kampung melayu area, and requires someone stationed in JB/skudai who could blend in (read: melayu jawa hahahhaha). i've done the groundworks, but later johor state government decreed that they dont want to develop that area.

in the mean time, since groundworks dont require fulltime concentration, i've been toying around with teaching in UTM. after the project got cancelled, i was offered a job as a tutor in UM, after an interview with the dean. however, when UTM heard that UM is pulling me out, they quickly assembled and offered me a job on the spot.

so i had to make a decision: become a tutor in a new school and start fresh without any reputation; or in the most senior school where i've already built a good reputation and rapport with everyone.

obviously i took the latter. after a year UTM supported my masters in bartlett, and now PhD in sheffield wink.gif

overseas schools especially american and UK will accept art streamers more than msian universities themselves. this is bcoz their education base is very open and has a wide variety. they dont really have art or science stream per se, and the subject selection is blurred bcoz of the numerous choices they could take.

oh no. i came to a question.

seeing the post here saying that architecture also emphasise on drawing and designing the building or blablabla.

but i found that i dont really like drawing (but i can draw la XD) i'm more like to upgrading a city with LRT, building a skyscraping moden shopping complex or a very geng building with basement, building underwater railway or highways, or something like that, instead of just drawing design of building.

or building the new sky walk (at the grand canyon) something like that

am i come to the right choice?
