this UIA foundation -> overseas is news to me too. as far as i know, foundation programmes are institute specific. means if u do foundation in UIA, u can only study in UIA. this applies to virtually all academic institutions in the world. so it boils to two possibilities, in my opinion:

i. UIA managed to get around that issue somehow; or

ii. misinformation between the teduck and pn normadiah.
*
i was shock to hear that too, actually. sweat.gif
n i kept asking her about it.

she says there r some students from foundation in archi at uia that went to oversea.those students manage to get themselves scholarships and further study to UK.
i asked where? she answered me UK.

well, she is the head of KAED (kuliyyah of architecture and environment design)..so,i cant say its a lie..

but,i would really like to hear from the student themselves..just to be sure and know how they did it

Added on May 8, 2007, 1:11 amim wondering architecture is part of engineering or art..

or,it doesnt fit both of em?

em, is it just recently after UIA change the name to Centre of Foundation Studies or before that. Can't recalled anyone during my time further their study to oversea right after foundation/matriculation? Maybe u can forward bro.aza and my inquiries to Mdm.Normadiah... nod.gif

em, i think bro.aza had explained about architecture somewhere in this thread is it? U can intepret architecture as manisfestation of both engineering and art to create build environment... hmm.gif

Yes, you can, but if the rules of hostel still the same from my time, i think you need to register your electrical appliances at hostel office. For PC i think around Rm20-25 per semester...

p/s: i never pay mine though.. laugh.gif During spotcheck, just twisted my word that i just brought my PC today and wanna register it tomorrow.. whistling.gif

It depends which college u will accomodate, since currently, there are 3 colleges for male and 3 colleges for females(if i'm not mistaken), some of the colleges using room system which is 1 room for 4 person(divided by partition) and one of the colleges using big room and separated by partition(is more like dorm room).

i think it is not possible since UIA foundation is specifically for UIA students, so to avoid overflow of quota in maincamp, they only take direct intake from STPM only...maybe bro.aza can clarify about the education system intake...

i've referred to some friends as well as UIA's official website, and i'm quite surprised that they did not have any intakes from matrics. i'm gonna have to update my diagram in the first post later. here's more information.

in a nutshell, intakes for UIA are:

i. A-levels
ii. IB
iii. diploma
iv. STPM
v. or any equivalent.

Short semester is supposed to be only 2months++, required only for the one who's not exempted in Arabic(as the subject is compulsory for every student in foundation).

I'm not sure. But it does require one to be outgoing, cos site surveying and stuff like that do need you to walk much.

Nope. I know some lecturers and architects that are handicapped. As long as you're good at design, it's fine. Site analyses, observations, defects listing, disputes, certifications, etc. can be done by other qualified personnels.

the only physical requirement that i'm aware of is not colour blind. even so, there are ways to compensate colour blindness these days, but i can tell u, studying with colour blindness is harder than having a deformed leg for architecture.

working wise, if u have difficulty walking or maneuvering on site, then u'll compensate by dealing more with the clients or do more office works. i have a senior who has a club foot on his right leg. that doesnt stop him from becoming a good designer, and more over, he has a GORGEOUS wife. semuorang pun jeles...

I'm doing my portfolio now, I did a few works for some company and Social Society, do I have to get their signature or cop to prove that I really did it for them?

How about designing for school magazine? Do I have to get the school's 'cop' too?
If I design around 8 pages of school's pages, can I put one big one and resize the other 7 so that it'll fit in a page or I have to put one or two in a page?

what's the purpose of the portfolio? u looking forward for another interview? perhaps a job interview? or is it as a lifelong portfolio?

there's only one reason why u need a stamp/cop: to have a third party endorsement that u really did what u're showing in the portfolio. there are several ways u can do if u dont want to get the stamp all over ur precious artwork. one of it is to get a certificate from ur school or whatever and detail out the work(s). this way, u dont have to put the "real thing" in ur portfolio, a copy would suffice. but the certificate must be real and original.

given that u are not sitting for a part 1 degree/diploma, then u have 2 choices after finishing ur diploma (just my assumption) in ID:
    i. join part 1 degree of architecture at 2nd year for 2 years, and later join part 2 degree for another 2 years.
ii. work for about 2-3 years in the architecture field (not ID), and sit for the part 1 exam. after that, join part 2 degree for another 2 years.

other than that, u have the longer way, which is to finish ur degree in ID, then work for about 2-3 years in archi field (not ID), sit for the part 1 exam, then practice for another 3-4 years and sit for the part 2 exam.
