yup, the best way is to study masters. there are professional masters (for RIBA part 3) here too, but there's a work requirement before that.

Professional Masters accreditated as RIBA/ARB Part 3? Wow, what university offers that? They have any requirement brochure or anything to refer to?

Added on May 3, 2007, 11:56 pmJust want to ask, anyone here has any suggestion for a final year design thesis?

jia , which one was u ? u UTM johor or city ?

johor one

You would be given a different question, I think. Just make a simple abstract model. never specify want to make building model or what . You would be given some key words as your topic. You have to make one based on the topic/key words. I never learnt before.. and a lot of candidates there also never learnt before , so don't worry a bout that.I also simply made one . Not really a lot can make a very nice model there as we had no much time ,too.I think mine is out of the topic already, hahahaha....... I think in the letter, it's written" no prior preparation is necessary", so really don't need to be so worry la.I never put hope on that one, so done very badly. now come back just know I understood the question wrongly.

10th? so late? that day 29th , already got more than 80 candidates in that room where I had my aptitude test( one of the rooms). My seat no is 78 and I had seen a lot of students in that room, so I estimate got around 80 candidates. Also, there got more than 3 or 4 rooms conducting the test, I think. So I guess got 400 were called for the interview. Now you said there would be another date of interview at 10th.. so.. would be another 400 candidates? Wow... if really like that, it would be rrrrrrrrreaally competitive. shocking.gif

Hey, I don't know how to use those programmes at all.. (autocad,photoshop....) We would be taught when we are studying in uni , right? Can we learn to use it by ourselves now? I want to learn , anyway.

u can find a lot in google. refer to this pdf that lists universities that offer part 3 courses.

i've got a bunch. just tell me what u're interested in, and we'll formulate the idea into a thesis. i've supervised 18-20 students' final year thesis throughout the years, gimme a try wink.gif

in most schools in msia, autocad and other softwares are taught as a specific subject, but it's up to u to use it in design. if u prefer to utilize ur painting skills, then u wont do much with the autocad classes. but school is where u get to experiment with all these.

in UTM for example, we have two subjects specialized in computer softwares. the 1st is an introductory programme. students will be introduced to basic autocad draftmanship, raster processing (photoshop), vector graphics (corel draw, illustrator or sometimes flash) and sketchup. the 2nd subject is more advanced: autocad 3D, 3dsmax and more depth on the other softwares in the previous subjects.

other schools might have different structures. UTM evolved from a technical school, hence the emphasis on the skills and diverse abilities of the students.

Those softwares, you'll only learn a bit in UM. But since you are going to UTM, it doesn't matter to you anyway tongue.gif

But you'll learn mostly from your peers, seniors (respect them!) and of course, part time jobs and/or industrial training. I myself learn the most from training (I trained in lots of firms, mostly part time) and self exploration. Explore during your holidays, get used to it. The greatest thing about learning those softwares in Malaysia is that...well, you can get them "easily"...I don't dare to elaborate more...I think you understand.

Oh, several of my seniors mentioned that firms from other countries with low piracy rates (USA, Europe, etc.) love students (read: workers) from Asia (including Malaysia) because we know how to use every single software they throw at us...smile.gif

Added on May 6, 2007, 12:22 amHey thanks Mr Azari Mat Yasir for the brochure. Very enlightening.

One of my friend in UTM, a girl, should be entering 5th year when semester starts (forgot her name - used to work with her in Hijjas), suggested looking in Tanggam for final year design thesis...I can't find any...care to direct? smile.gif Thanks.

this is true. although most of the universities owns original softwares, most of it are educational editions. as we all know, the educational license are stripped down version of the softwares, prompting the students to find pirated full version softwares either from pirate shops or warez sites.

all the schools started with only autocad as a formal computing media. but the students get better and way ahead from the school. back in my years, the students teach lecturers how to model in 3dsmax and photomontage on a site image. our motto was: if the school cant provide for u, dont let them slow u down!

err..im from uia though in AEd(archtcture and environmental design deparmnt)
act. ur gonna go through some rough edu. here and ur not going to get only archtctre that means ur will be not sure to get archtctre as it got 5 others 'cabang'
hehe

from the foundation of AED at UIA u can go to 5 others streamline
1. architecture
2. quantity surveying
3. landscape architecture
4. applied arts(interior design, industrial design, conservation)
5. urban regional planning

they(KAED(Kuliyyah of archtctre and envirnmental design in main camp gombak) will determine which best student to go in each streamline.
last semester is
1. architectre (125)
2. qs (100)
3. lndscpe (80something)
4. applid arts (40 something)
5. urp (80something)

to get pure archtctre in UIA??
from what i heard and exp.
1. good reslt wif good design n colouring
2. if got recommendation from ur studio master

the number 2 is for some *ahem student that always wif their studio masters and 'bodek-bodek'
seriously!!
got a student who got only 2.6 cgpa(the worst for a archtctre student)got in

btw i got urp coz my marks are not that high b'coz got an unexp. studio master.
y? she said that other lectrers cant give my studio students get above marks than B+..isnt that sux juz b'coz my studio master is an unexp. lectrr??

so im appealing to get qs in UIA and applying uitm b.science archt.

p/s- those who stdied Lukisan Kejuruteraan and Pendidikan Seni in SPM will benefit much when stdyng at UIA

don't worry about that even if you don't have that two subject, just make sure u learn and practice a lot during ur foundation time, try to improve any skills that u can as preparation for the maincampus...

em, about the minimum cgpa requirement recently, maybe kazasho can explain more, but during my time u need to have at least 2.8 cgpa in foundation and make sure ur studio work never reached C+ level...

about that bodek2 is quite true though, u can do like that if you want... laugh.gif But for me, just maintain your relation with lecturer(meaning no faulty manner whatsoever)

Oh, and also forget to mention, the selection to architecture assestment in foundation UIA usually based on lecturer recommendation, just maintain good attitude and good results will do, and don't forget, spend more time consulting with them so they know actually u really serious about architecture...goodluck then.. nod.gif

hem, if for personal purpose like completing written assignment, yes I presume...
because normally foundation is all about hand drawing skills...but recently i heard that they started to introduce autocad early in foundation stage...but if for architectural software practice...it's recommended..

but for main camp, i prefer pc eventhough it's very hard in term of mobility, but u can get high-spec for lower budget...but then it depends on you.. nod.gif

i just got back from a visit to uia at pj (centre for foundation studies)..
Pn.normadiah gave me a lot of info biggrin.gif . thought of sharing with aki n others..
here's what she had explained..

FOUNDATION (ASASI)

after asasi (im focusing on asasi seni bina),u have several option..

-->go to uia gombak for degree programme..
like kazasho latest tread,u will be sorted into 1 from 5 cabang(field).to get into
architecture,u will need to score min of 3.00 cgpa.getting recommended by studio master (the lec in ur studio/class) is an advantage BUT they cant approve u to go into ur desired field.
so,excelling in ur exam n showing a gud impression on lecs will determine ur chances.

-->>oversea (mostly fndtn uia graduate opt to UK unis)
compering to A-level n matrix, going to UK for degree as a fndtn uia graduate is an advantage as u have already learn the basics of architecture-u know mostly everything about design n drawing that the lecs say cz u r familiar with em.
neway,u will need to find ur own sponsor to sponsor ur study oversea.

-->>other ipta
there are students went to other ipta to do degree in architecture.

ermm..i will elaborate more later cz im trying to recall what else she said laugh.gif

any questions regarding fndtn uia,do ask.
hopefully i can help smile.gif

Added on May 7, 2007, 10:12 pmneway, during the orientation week, there will be a english test.this is IMPORTANT as to determine u whether u will be in a 1 year program or 2 year program.

the results will be in 'level's.

they who score level 3 and 4 -->> 2-year program

level 5 and 6 scorer --->> 1-year program

actually, recommendation from matriculation lecturer is also important, since during final portfolio, you will be divided directly according your studio grade(if i'm not mistaken) And the real result depend on the maincamp lecturer assessment on your final portfolio...

so this one is new to me? Is UIA upgrading their matriculation to a foundation level(Centre for Foundation Studies) means that their also upgrading the whole system and standard of the studies?I mean as par to A-Level? Can you explain more on this? nod.gif

this UIA foundation -> overseas is news to me too. as far as i know, foundation programmes are institute specific. means if u do foundation in UIA, u can only study in UIA. this applies to virtually all academic institutions in the world. so it boils to two possibilities, in my opinion:

i. UIA managed to get around that issue somehow; or

ii. misinformation between the teduck and pn normadiah.
