100Mbps advertised.
anybody constantly getting that speed with 850L Dlink wifi?

The max I can get through wifi is only about 50Mbps
even when my laptop is just beside the router.

any ideas besides changing to a better router?
*
Use a wired connection. This should give you the advertised speed.

to be honest, I don't really care about the max 100Mbps
Just want constant and steady signal throughout the house.
I switched from VIP10 to TIME 100Mbps,
getting stable 20-50 Mbps whole house is good enough.

problem:
wifi only about 50Mbps next to router,
go about 10 feet away drop to 20-30 Mbps signal 3 bars
in room 2 bar, speed only 1-2Mbps

previously I am used to 10Mbps whole house
constant and strong signal.
crappy silver innatech rg4332 stock unifi router.

..

I am exploring all options before investing in a better router
or using a homeplug repeater.
which is quite overkill as my house is only 1200sqft.

What your client devices support do matter. If they don't support 5GHz N/AC, then you'll be stuck on 2.4GHz band which is sensitive to interference from other 2.4GHz wifi networks and at times even from bluetooth, wireless mice/keyboards etc.

I'm not familiar with Time stock routers as I always use my own router, even from the old Streamyx days.

For a 1200sqf home, I think any reasonably priced router with external antennas should help improve wifi coverage and stability. I am using an Asus RT-AC68U with my Time 500mb connection - an expensive investment but boy does it deliver!

I have 5GHz wifi all over my 1200sqf condo unit, 250-350mbps in the living room (where my router is) and 100-200mbps in other rooms. I can even get 50-100mbps outside at the lift lobby. Stable and speedy. I have 2 non-AC clients (work laptops) and about 12 AC clients at home. My remaining 1 wired client (media center PC) gets the full 500mbps.

partial wrong
most of the powerline is 10/100 lan port..
few of it is giga port..
u need to read the spec before u say dont use powerline..
*
Agreed. I had an AV600 tp-link pair with gigabit ethernet ports that gave me 200-300mbps of network performance from living room (router) to study room (PC).

The newer AV1200 and AV2000 models may be even better.

how much u bought for AV600
*
2-3 years back it was RM219 I think.

I have sold it off because my Edgerouter-X router + Asus AC68U (AP mode) gives me better wifi-AC speed to my study room PC (USB 3.0 AC1200 dongle) minus the wires now.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Tenda. So value is not just about low price biggrin.gif

Is the n18u better than the n66u? I had the n66u before my ac68u and I remember that the n66u was just as stable and strong as my current ac router, if less speedy due to lack of AC support.

I've had other routers before, dlink/tplink/netgear/linksys but I keep going back to Asus..

Not sure about the Tenda but the Xiaomi is able to support up to only 100Mbps. Anything more you need a better router. Not recommended.
*
Tenda AC6 also has no gigabit ethernet support.

Hi Guys any recomendation for  USB wifi adapter? My laptop wireless card spoil. planning to get a good wifi adapter.

I am using tp-link archer t4uh (ac1200) with my windows 10 pc. Very stable and good speeds connected to my ac68u router one room away ~ 8-10m.

Am thinking to upgrade to the t9uh (ac1900) soon smile.gif

Tenda is reportedly good too. Btw, archer t4u is different than t4uh (which I have).

Guys , need help choosing for 300mbps router. Archer C3150 , AC66U or Netgear R6400? Setup have 1 access point (UBNT UAP AC LR).
*
If you don't care about wifi (since you already have an AP), I would recommend a wired router like the edgerouter-x.

I'm using it with my ac68u. Solid router and handles my 500mb Fibre connection well. I also have the microtik hex3 but the simplicity of ubiquiti's edgeos on the edgerouter works better for me.

Thanks. Congestion, interference etc - same factors that may also affect an AC router. There's no guarantee an AC will give 100% too  smile.gif
*
For AC I think it depends on the client too. My AC68U router is a 3x3 MIMO unit with theoretical max of 1300mbps on AC wifi..

On my 500mb Time connection, the max I've gotten on AC was 350+mbps.
