I think is limitation is the mobo itself, use the Asus P4P800-X.The original northbridge cooler runs hot when loading, this is also one of the factor as it's just a passive cooling heatsink.Second thing is the Vdimm, only 2.685V max with the bios setting. wink.gif

Yes S478 is quite old already. But for the moment now i will stick with it first cos i also don't have budget for C2D.Too poor man. sad.gif  Regarding Vista,i think for the moment i still will not swtich into it as my system just having 1GB RAM only. sweat.gif
I am also using this PSU,it will fluctuate from time to time one.But for me is still ok cos i am not going into super hardcore man.The max i can o/c on my spec is 3.71GHz with 1:1 divider with benchmark passed. My RAM is limitting me,so sad.
*
I dont think you are poor.. You got alot of high end 478 stuff. Not cheap at all when it released last time. haha.

If you have the space, dont sell your old 478 rig. Just not worth it. I dont feel good when i selling mine sad.gif

This PSU is good enough for 478 but not for c2d and 8800gts. Now even with default speed, the 12v rail almost dry up already. I am so worry now. Dont know can stand till Silverstone OP650 arrive end of this month or not. haha.

QUOTE(kabukiawie @ Mar 12 2007, 11:44 AM)
1gb of ram is not enough juice for running vista smooth. 2gb will be better. I think xp running on 478 still can last for few years. smile.gif
*
478 still can support vista if you have the right spec. 1.5gig ram at least and a direct9.0c GC. can stand for another few years unless you are into high end game else a major overhaul is not needed.

QUOTE(raymond5105 @ Mar 12 2007, 01:08 PM)
I think shouldn't be a problem for that since we still have choice to run our system on Win XP. biggrin.gif  But if i got 2GB RAM i might shift it to Vista environment, between the Vista also need a better display card to perform if want to enjoy it's 3D effects.
*
yeah... 478 still rocks despite its ages.

aiya... shouldnt get the Ultra 90. it probably good enough for 478 but when u upgrade to c2d. you will need to buy a new one.

Oh man seriously i am not rich but those high end stuff i was also getting those 2nd hand one,not new one. wink.gif And for me i think the S478 is good enough for me right now since i still not going to do any projects that require high processing power. Opps,i forgot that you are using the 8800GTS on your C2D man.Definately the Acbel I-Power 450W is not enough for your monster.Your 12V rail drops until how low?Just curious to know as mine also will be staying at 11.7-11.8V stages now.

yeah.i think that my old msi mobo is way better then this p4p800x.was rock stable with almost all at default values but clocked at 2.82ghz sweat.gif and i've already changed the TIM on the northbridge heatsink.

Yeah, but its worth noting that his P4 is Prescott, 2.4 oc to 3Ghz, ain't the new temp obtained from the new cooler something nice to achieve compared to stock/regular cooler? icon_rolleyes.gif

My mobo temp decrease to 33c. Coz the big fan just above it. hehe.....
