My car color is Lunar Silver (Honda's Silver)... I noticed swirls on my boot when viewed under street light (yellow light) but when I use my phone LED... can't see the swirls... why is it like this? I thought LED should be able to view better?

QUOTE(douglas_tong @ Feb 22 2018, 11:37 PM) Watch the video: Watched the video, understand the differences between spot light and flood light now, when to use it Spot light vs flood light temperature (light frequency) yellowish vs whitish They reveal different depths of imperfection when the light frequency bounces back to our eyes But for my case its comparing between my phone LED (I think is "white") versus street lamp (yellow), so that is due to intensity or was it more on the color temperature? QUOTE(blurcase @ Feb 23 2018, 12:47 AM) From my experience and research, generally yellowish type lights (generally known as warm white) can show swirls better on lighter color cars (white, silver), and white lights (generally known as cool white) tend to show swirls better on dark/black cars. The difference in the light temperature (the yellowness or whiteness of light) will show swirls differently depending on your car color. Street lights are generally warm white category, and your phone torch light should be in the cool white category. The street light I refer to looks very yellow to me though, I think about 3000K type compared to 4200K of the warm white. What sort of torchlight are you using? Maybe I should grab a better torch... more powerful one that my phone's LED.The overall ideal light for inspecting paint defects is neutral white color lights, which commonly is sunlight equivalent type of light. Sun guns are what some pro detailers like to use when doing such inspection because they use bulbs that somewhat emulate sun type of light temperature. I have the same car color as u have, so I use a strong warm white torchlight (powered by 18650 battery) for defect inspection. QUOTE(douglas_tong @ Feb 23 2018, 08:53 AM) Fun facts on lighting when it comes to detailing: Street light, the old ones with bulb type... is 4200K? But 4200K appears white right.. while the street light is much warmer...1) The "safest" temperature to go with for detailing inspection is 4500k and 6500k. Scangrip uses this 2 temperatures to promote the so-called "cri+". Basically what it means is that the range of most automotive colors are from r1-r15 and these are the best temperature to go with to check on defects. 2) To tell if a detailing shop is good or bad i look at their lightings. If there is no yellowish (4500k) spot lights, and only fluorescence is present, tau la tu. 3) Street lights (yellowish type, not the latest white led kind) are the best kind of light to inspect your finish. LOL |

QUOTE(blurcase @ Feb 25 2018, 09:54 PM) As I know u can, but not sure what purpose would it serve, as claying would prove far more effective. Feel free to try. Me interested. As I proposed earlier, we could do a small group buy on this product. Lazada is selling RM320 (exclude shipping). Maybe can split 4 bottles (1 Gallon = 3.78L, divide 4 = 0.945L per bottle). Possibly each person pay RM90-95 per bottle (including rebottling and shipping fee). QUOTE(xcstacy @ Feb 25 2018, 10:21 PM) I'm interested, count me in! |

QUOTE(douglas_tong @ Mar 5 2018, 10:25 PM) Hi guys, cny has passed and i think it is about time we should move forward with the "teh tarik" session. Are you Douglas from the detailing clinic on Saturday? I have managed to convince Henry to allow us to use some space in his detailing hall to support the almost forgotten community in low yat forum. LOL. So good news! He agreed to let us use his hall, tools, products, bonnets and product for our sharing/teh tarik session. We won't be restricted in whatsoever way except the time agreed upon. We are free to do whatever we like during the allocated time slot. (of course keeping everything in tact) I suggest we use this opportunity to share our knowledge, especially forumites that are keen in detailing or wanting to discover different ideas. here are some details we can run during the session: Topics on: Washing tricks and tips, polishing with da/rotary, troubleshoot tryouts, testing of various products. depending on who would be keen in joining, we will plan on the topics as we progress. So if most attending would like to know more about polishing techniques or to even try out, we will focus on that. Alternatively, feel free to suggest on what subject should be covered. Everyone can share. We will also have to decide a time and date. I suggest : 24th of March 2018 (sat) or 7th of April 22018 (sat) Let me know what you guys think |

QUOTE(blurcase @ Mar 13 2018, 10:54 AM) Other that the ones u mentioned, I can only think of the addition of Mothers and Osren only. There isnt a big variety in the market mainly because of 3 reasons I can think of: Clay cloth and clay pad are reusable? How to clean the dirt on the clay? Just rinse on the water it will drop off?1) Claybar can last quite long for home detailer, so buy once and maybe u wont be buying again for next 5-10 years 2) Claying step is one of the less-mentioned steps especially in commercial detailing, most of the time u hear tar/bug removal, polish/wax, etc, but not claying, and claying cant be advertised as an independent service 3) More popular in the recent years are clay cloth and claypad, which is easier to use because u just need to rinse in water bucket between claying, faster than claybar where u stop to fold over the bar and reopen fresh surface. Whatever claybar u choose to buy, do avoid the commonly marketed 3M claybar from China. I have bought and tried them before, they look and feel like a typical claybar, but doesnt work well at all at claying. Just my 2 sen. |

QUOTE(blurcase @ Apr 2 2018, 01:09 AM) I believe the issue u have is contamination that wiper cannot wipe off and washing doesnt wash off. Try claying it and see if it helps. Else, polish it with a cerium oxide based polish cream. Replying to douglas_tong, I assumed he meant the Meguair's Glass Polish.Which Meguiars polish are u referring to? I dont know of any product in Meguiars range that contains cerium oxide. |

Just noticed yellow spot about 3 mm x 3 mm on the roof area. Is this tree sap etch into clear coat? I tried restorer 51, PC20 and 46 using MF cloth cannot remove 🤦♂️. Angled view looks like the yellow spot is not level with my paint...
Side view, looks like it’s bulging instead. This post has been edited by celciuz: May 13 2018, 09:33 PM |

QUOTE(blurcase @ May 28 2018, 01:39 PM) Can consider Claber or Karcher if u looking for branded with quality hose connectors. Else, can search for garden hose reel for cheaper alternatives. QUOTE(g88 @ May 28 2018, 03:34 PM) Bear in mind hose reel will take up space and make your roll of hose 'bigger' . Something like this https://www.lazada.com.my/products/pvc-gard...Xek7ub&search=1 will do the job. U won't want spent way lot more than your hose Thanks! Will look into them, gonna look for one which I can mount on the wall... don't need to carry the entire reel around. |

QUOTE(happyhaka @ Jun 4 2018, 12:27 AM) Thanks for the detailed explanation! Would definitely be keen to get this done. Though I’m wondering if would you guys be able to recommend a place where I can get this done? Would also like to get my tint done so maybe if I package those two together I might be able to snag a good deal. I remember hearing this place called Regal Valet... has both coating + tinting service. (From Civic thread back then). |

QUOTE(therain01 @ Jul 22 2018, 11:56 PM) Don't go for the ezy touch up paint. I would rather call it mess up touch-up paint. just dry sand with 800 then wet sand with 800 grit sand paper. Use filler if you have the skill. Buy a color matching spray paint, and a 2k clear coat spray paint. You will need to buy a premixed clearcoat with reducer if you want it to look 99.9% like never touch up. spray the new and old paint adjecent part with premixed clearcoat. Anyway, since it is bottom you might as well skip the premixed clearcoat. QUOTE(blurcase @ Jul 23 2018, 12:45 AM) That's the latest Honda Civic right? I have a similar scuff on the exact same spot, lol. Think mine happened when I went down a very low curb outside my house and the soft suspension bumped down and bumper scratched the curb. I havent done anything to it yet, but plan to probably sand, filler and touchup paint it when I feel semangat, hehe... Thanks for the tips! On the side note... damn sad at the moment ._. So unlucky I scratched my bumper this morning when driving out T_T. Walaoweh ytd found this below (no big deal...) now got scratches on the bumper cause of my mistake tsk... And I ordered ezy touch up paint... I'll experience with the bottom part first =/. If I don't use filler, means I need to paint until it fills up the gap right? Side note, where can I get these spray paint? Any reliable source to get them from? This post has been edited by celciuz: Jul 23 2018, 01:47 PM |

QUOTE(blurcase @ Jul 23 2018, 04:41 PM) Mmm, paint is not meant to fill much. A proper filler is better as u can fill, then sand flat before touchup. I think the common filler for deep car scratches is Bondo, which can be found in ACE hardware. The filler paste is red in colour. Is this the product you referring to? https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-...=8711351&rt=rudAs linkin182 mentioned, try using a microfiber cloth and some compound or polish cream to rub and see if it disappears. Since your lower fender and door is not flush, then perhaps it is best to polish that edge with your door open. Hmm, need to hunt from Ace Hardware perhaps... do you by any chance know how much does it cost? |

Arrived home, first thing was to do damage check. Bad Close up, the bumper material seems intact, maybe I could skip the filler and go for paint? And the car which I rubbed against (wife's ride...) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by celciuz: Jul 23 2018, 09:11 PM |

QUOTE(blurcase @ Jul 23 2018, 11:36 PM) Try feel the parts where the paint has been rubbed off if the surface is rough or still smooth. If rough, then maybe abit of fine spot sanding would be best before touching up. The black areas felt smooth, which I think the paint basically peeled off. The areas with damaged felt rough though, need to do some sanding. What grade would it be? 1000? 1500? 2000?QUOTE(therain01 @ Jul 23 2018, 11:52 PM) Well no paint can fill up scratches even a light one. You will need filler to do the job but filling up scratches is not easy job. It needs a lot of patience and skill. Another easier way is to sand down the scratches until it smooth to touch (yes you will need to sand it until bare surface). I'm thinking since my damage area is smaller than the one you've shown... I will borrow friend's mini air brush (which he use for figurines) for these areas? As for paint colour, look for aikka. I get mine from seri kembangan. They sell color matching spray paint in a can. What I do is I will remove the fuel cap cover for color matching purpose. As for 2K clear coat, I always use samurai 2K clear. When come to clearcoat with reducer, I'm not sure if anyone selling clearcoat with reducer locally but I get mine from China. Clearcoat with reducer is good if you are doing spot repair. Edit: The picture shows the area which has been sanded down and patching and feathering for 3 times and still not ready for painting . It took me about 6th correction to get it 100% smooth. On the side note, patching = filling, feathering means? Guess I'll use this as a lesson and hands on experience... will try on the lower areas first haha. QUOTE(therain01 @ Jul 24 2018, 12:06 AM) Think I bought it for 40+ at bukit jelutong ace hardware years ago. I don't get from Ace Hardware anymore due to cut throat price. I get mine from China these days. Could you share how did you get it from China? Is it available through Taobao?I tried to ask a few paint job shop... tsk, they said if touch up = free (but touch up means use brush...). Respray = RM300~RM450. So I'm gonna try touching up myself... if don't work, down the road i'll respray. |
