My opinion & suggestion as below :
-I am guessing the scratches might appear due to not enough lubrication when you were polishing the glass (with Osren glass polish right?), as I watched a video before, the theory is you are essentially polishing your glass with glass (residue) instead of the polish once the medium is loaded up with residue.

-I suggest spraying the surface with a bit of water to provide more lubrication if you use glass polish.

-Your steps of clay, carpro spotless then polish sounds good, but maybe if the carpro spotless get the job done then no need go aggressive and polish it.

Just my suggestions. Maybe other Sifus can share more with us smile.gif

Will try out again, probably in smaller areas this time hopefully can somewhat reduce the scratches. Lucky its the small triangle window... need more lub I guess, I saw some videos using water as lube too. But thinking to clay it first to remove further contaminants, then spotless only polish. This time gonna use machine...

Clay yes, but spotless handle with great care because it is acid, and wrong use means acid etches into your glass. Furthermore, spotless may help with watermarks but does nothing to scratches.

In terms of the scratches, where do they appear? Where the wiper wipes or non-wiper areas? Glass is a very hard surface, so it is not as prone to scratch as compared to paint, but scratches that do appear are also very hard to deal with.

Again, I cannot emphasize enough to handle with alot of care in using spotless or any other forms of acid. Etching your glass and burning your hands (not to mention acid reaction to waterspots creates noxious and dangerous fumes) are things not to be messed with.
*
I was a little lazy, car was dirty so I just cleaned the glass window (the rear mini triangle) with water, wipe off with glass cleaner. Then I used Osren glass polish with mini wool block and then doing it by hand.

The scratches looks like micro marrings, very short (like maybe 2-3mm) and very fine. I was sort of polishing it in single direction cause that small triangle window is quite small.

Spotless is not strong acid right? ohmy.gif. But either ways I'm using nitrile gloves when using it (so far used for side mirror was ok) and if fumes then I'll need probably a mask as well.

From your description of the scratches, it could have actually come from the polishing. However, I find that to be odd as glass polish shouldnt scratch glass. Did u apply alot of pressure in effort to remove the waterspots when hand polishing?

Hmm, sorry to say that I wouldnt be able to tell u how strong Carpro Spotless is. If there is rough gauge of comparison, I would say it is definitely stronger than vinegar, though it may not be as strong as Osren StainX. When previously I tried remove waterspots from my wife's car windows, I followed the recommendation of using a damp cloth with a few drops of Osren StainX, and that may have diluted it just enough to removing the waterspots without harming the window. However, for my procedure I was very fast in using a 2nd damp cloth to wipe off acid residue then dry cloth to remove all the dampness, so I worked small sections at a time.
*
I didn’t apply much force actually, just moving to and fro letting the polish do the work. Suspect maybe the contaminant? But it’s glass... hmm or it could have been there but I didn’t notice it due to watermark?

I will try your method perhaps, for the rear windscreen first hehe. Second damp cloth and another dry one.

Check this place out for cheaper air compressors.
Unless the contaminant is tougher than glass, then I dont think it could have made such scratches. There is that possibility that it was there but covered by watermarks, but on order to know for sure, try cleaning your other windows with other methods. However, just remember as always, handle acid with great care. Sorry to sound like a broken radio, dont want my detailing friends here to risk their life for detailing. smile.gif

I have a cordless blower (Bosch GBL 18V-120) and I'd say it works pretty well for blowing off water from my wheels, crevices and flat surfaces. However, don't expect it to be able to blow your car completely dry.. it's much faster just to dry it up with a cloth. On a full charge, I think it can lasts for about 10 mins or so, and it's quite loud (like a vacuum cleaner).

As for getting an air compressor, I have one too (looks something like this), which is quiet and pretty decent but it's darn heavy despite it's size (probably around 30kg). Lugging it around would likely result in bad back at some point, which is why I ended up with a cordless blower.  cool2.gif

I haven’t tried using blower for drying car, is 10 minutes sufficient? I have a corded one but always lazy and the water doesn’t sheet much cause... my wax is 😅 need to detail again.

Yup this is it. And yes. Mix with water in sprayer. This is a pretty popular product which you can find info online quite easily. Also if I remember correctly the dilution ratio is indicated in the bottle label.

But in case you need it, you can reference dilution ratio here

How does ONR compared to Meguair’s Last Touch as lube for claying?

I never used Meguairs Last Touch before, but ONR seems to offer better value due to it's very good dilution ratio (1:64) compared to Meguiar's (1:1) for clay lube, plus you can use ONR to clean your car but I don't think you can do that with Meguairs last touch.

QUOTE(blurcase @ Jun 26 2019, 03:57 PM)
Purely from claying perspective, I prefer Meguiars Last Touch, as it is geared towards a quick detailer hence abit more slick when claying. ONR as clay lube feels more like water, which is slighty less slick.

I also like Last Touch as quick detailer for windshields, as it helps reduce the chance of water spotting with regular use.

If to compare:

Meguiars Last Touch:
1) Clay lube (1:1 dilution ratio)
2) Quick detailer, final coat protection although very mild (no dilution)
3) Interior quick detailer / protectant (no dilution)

ONR:
1) Clay lube (1:64)
2) Quick detailer (1:16)
3) Rinseless wash (1:256)
4) Many other uses (https://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-Pro/how...r-detail-spray/)

Guess it depends on what u wanna use it for.
*
Thanks for the input! Going for ONR for lube first then tongue.gif.

Side note, what are these called? Man, my car always kena attack by bird shit dry.gif. Any recommended spray bottle or any would do?

Hi sifus, I tried searching for the alcohol from Magicboo Sg Wang last weekend but apparently they don't have it in stock anymore.

Just curious, any other places I can et these sort of alcohol so I can perform the IPA wipedown? Or any other products to recommend? I checked a few pharmacies as well around Damansara area but no luck either.
*
Why don't you contact Osren? They do sell IPA.

Just to share about storing claybar. I checked on my claybar and turns out you guys are right about mold growing. Note that I forgot what kind of water I used to submerge them. Maybe 1 used tap water and the other used filter water? Or maybe the other one will grow mold soon as well?

Anyhow, Learnt something new. Thanks guys smile.gif

I guess key is to keep it away from sun light. Mine is kept in the store room, coming to 2 years still no mold. And I never changed the water... only once where the container toppled 😅

Come to think of it, Soft 99 even cheaper than Meg's.

Haha. Yes, from my prior experiences with Glaco, they're very effective and worth the investment.

Too bad not many places sell them off the shelves; the only place I can think of is Autobacs Klang Sentral and the Eneos 1U which sadly closed down few years ago.

Might be tempted to just get them online since the prices are quite attractive.
*
Could just order from Shopee/Lazada. The Soft99 cleaner isn't effective... as compared to CeriGlass. But its more user friendly as its watered down, unlike the CeriGlass need to spray water to have it lubricated as it dries up really quickly.

Any nice watermark remover product recently? Planning to DIY on my car as the stains are getting serious lol. And also what you guys use to coat the windows after removing the watermarks? I used Rain X last time, just wondering if there is any better product.

I use Soft99 Ultra Glaco, works fine.

Erm, think gloss enhancing usually means wax, especially carnauba based wax. Is that what u are looking for?
Erm, that looks destroyed. It cant clump back together and bits keep falling off, yes?
Mmm, cleaner waxes are less on wax and more on cleaner function if not mistaken. At least spray wax is purely wax (even though watery and sprayable). Better to keep cleaner wax only for cleaning stubborn dirt stains that regular wash cant remove.
*
I too wonder about the clay... it definitely looks different from mine... even use since 2017... (well I cut them into smaller pieces, just the color changed).

Precaution when parking under trees, while they may be great for shades from a hot day, but apart from dust and whatnots that falls off the tree during rainfall like u mentioned, there's also the worry of tree sap and other material dropping. Worse is during evenings, some birds like to hangout together in the tree and creates a potential for bird poop bombing for cars underneath it.

The worst that I had seen from my previous detail shop days was a client parked under a tree not realising there was an ant nest at its base and the ants swarmed the car. It took me numerous hours with bug spray, interior cleaning and vacuuming to rid the ants.

My general advice for cars with good car care regime and decent tinting, better to park out in the open. Just my 2 sen.
*
My experience once I didn't park under the tree, but car got bombarded by bird poo. Car was under a power cable line... and the birds hung out there dry.gif. Another tip I guess to check the road/floor condition, if there's bird poo traces then likely you might get hit even without tree. (It was in between 2 trees, there was a power cable going across and the birds happen to hang out on the cable instead.)

It was after reunion dinner, and that's after I washed the car dry.gif.
