Thanks man for the quick reply. Oh yea just another random newbie question.. Is there any difference in terms of performance between a regular atx and an Matx motherboard??
*
Performance difference is negligible, ATX mobo offers more RAM/PCIe/M.2 slots etc, but in this case, the mATX mobo I picked also comes with 4 RAM slots, only PCIe slot is lesser (if you aren't going for SLI/CF setup then this is fine).

Nvidia's Pascal is coming soon in June/July while Intel Kaby Lake's ETA is still unknown, but it is rumored to be released in Q3 or Q4 later this year.

I want to build a rig for a game whose minimum requirements are

[CPU] Intel Core i3.
[RAM] 8 GB RAM.
[GPU] nVidia GTX 480.

The build a friend suggested is
[CPU] Intel i5 6500
[GPU] MSI GTX 750Ti
[Mainboard] MSI H110M PRO-VH D4
[RAM] Kingston 8GB DDR4
[HDD] Seagate 1TB
[PSU] Cooler Master Elite2 500W

[Budget] RM2600

But do I really need such a good CPU? If I get a cheaper CPU, I can get the Radeon R7 370.

Will getting a cheaper CPU bottleneck the R7 370?

or does anybody have any other suggestions for a better rig?

What game is that?

R7 370 is considered as low end GPU, we can hardly "bottleneck" it.

BTW, 2.6k can get i5 + GTX960/R9 380 already.

If budget around RM3- 4k. It is possible to get a GTX980 GC?
one SSD should be sufficient. 256
Casing - which not to be oversize but at the same time have decent space (probably SLI in 1 or 2 years time. Should be cheap by then.
No monitor needed.

1. I try to build with all ASUS hardware. My perception is the quality will be better? Am I right?
2. In your opinion, 8GB RAM will be sufficient? 16GB is over spec / hardly utilize?
3. SSD and HDD write speed perfomance is hardly noticeable?
4. 450W is sufficient? No need 500W

Sorry if i am asking to many question. BTW where is Etech shop? how can I get their pricelist?

1. Quality better? This is hard to guarantee, but Asus is a "premium" brand in Malaysia so expect its price to be higher than the others, after sales services aren't that good as well as reported by some of the people here, but it's your choice, I never had any issue with other brands though.

2. 8GB is enough for normal consumer, but 8GB DDR4 RAM is cheap nowadays, just top up RM 133 for another stick if you want 16GB.

3. SSD is having huge performance gap with traditional HDD in terms of read and write speed, you won't go back to HDD once you tried SSD, everything flies on SSD even on old school Core 2 Duo PC, but the drawback is its price, the cheapest 120GB will cost you nearly the cost of a 1TB HDD.

4. The build I suggested barely uses > 300W, if you need something future proof then get 550W one (RM 188).

ETech is located in Kepong, you can visit their their lelong store here.

If you are planning to get high end GPU, I suggest you to wait for upcoming Pascal/Polaris instead which are expected to arrive in next couple of months.

R9 390X is more powerful than GTX980 at same price point, twice the VRAM of GTX980 too (4GB vs 8GB), perhaps you can consider it if you really cannot wait anymore.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 804
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 133
Gigabyte GTX980 4GB GDDR5 Xtreme Gaming - RM 2126
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 305
Seasonic S12II 620W - RM 303
Tecware Alpha - RM 189

Total: RM 4149 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

The mobo picked is the lowest end one, I have no choice because it is already overbudget, if you want a SLI ready mobo, then you gonna top up another RM 400+.

Oh really? I am not in a rush anyway as long as i buy in year 2016. May i know the model of the mobo that are SLI ready?
So mobo without SLI ready are not eligible to use SLI function?

There are many models that support SLI, try looking for Z170 series mobo (> RM 700 one), low end Z170 (RM 550 - RM 700) mobo normally doesn't support SLI.

Some example are:
1. Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
2. Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI
3. ASRock Z170 Extreme 4
4. MSI Z170A Gaming Pro

and many more.

Mobo without SLI support won't be able to use SLI.

Hi,

I am planning on getting a new PC. I am planning it to use for normal usage + some video editing for youtube and also photo editing.

I am not sure how much to budget. I am hoping for somewhere between the range of 1.5k to 2k. Inclusive of Windows OS. Can you guys suggest a rig?

Thanks.

Hi,

Looking to buy a PC for my dad. Had a look at the previous suggested builds and come up with these from lelong:

AOC 23.6” I2476VWM IPS LED MONITOR - 629.00
INTEL SKYLAKE CORE I5-6500 PROCESSOR - 815.00
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - 195.00
Asus 24X Green Power DVD Writer - 69.00
Corsair Value Select 8GB DDR4 2133MHz - 133.00
ASROCK H110M-DGS/D3 - 250.00
WESTERN DIGITAL 3.5” 1TB - 215.00
ZOTAC GEFORCE GTX 750 TI - 489.00
FSP HEXA+ 450W - 166.00
TECWARE ALPHA ATX CASE - 189.00

Total price: 3,150.00

Any comments? he wouldn't be doing any gaming but i think the rig should at least have a minimum GC right?
or better save the money to topup somewhere else?

Also, is it worth to go for an i7 processor? price wouldnt be an issue.
Just want to ask whether there would be any significant advantages or difference for day to day use compared to the i5?
