Hi,

I am planning on getting a new PC. I am planning it to use for normal usage + some video editing for youtube and also photo editing.

I am not sure how much to budget. I am hoping for somewhere between the range of 1.5k to 2k. Inclusive of Windows OS. Can you guys suggest a rig?

Thanks.

Hi,

Looking to buy a PC for my dad. Had a look at the previous suggested builds and come up with these from lelong:

AOC 23.6” I2476VWM IPS LED MONITOR - 629.00
INTEL SKYLAKE CORE I5-6500 PROCESSOR - 815.00
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - 195.00
Asus 24X Green Power DVD Writer - 69.00
Corsair Value Select 8GB DDR4 2133MHz - 133.00
ASROCK H110M-DGS/D3 - 250.00
WESTERN DIGITAL 3.5” 1TB - 215.00
ZOTAC GEFORCE GTX 750 TI - 489.00
FSP HEXA+ 450W - 166.00
TECWARE ALPHA ATX CASE - 189.00

Total price: 3,150.00

Any comments? he wouldn't be doing any gaming but i think the rig should at least have a minimum GC right?
or better save the money to topup somewhere else?

Also, is it worth to go for an i7 processor? price wouldnt be an issue.
Just want to ask whether there would be any significant advantages or difference for day to day use compared to the i5?

If no gaming then no need to spend money on getting dedicated GPU, the iGPU (Intel HD 530) that comes with the CPU is enough for daily task.

And yea you didn't state your usage/purpose of this build, please provide info on this.

The mobo you picked is a DDR3 based Skylake mobo, it cannot work with DDR4 RAM (you picked DDR4 RAM though), so you need to change to other model.

Ah,sorry2. I guess he will only be using for basic picture/video editing, watching movies, playing around with his phone.

Noob question: Would playing higher res videos require a dedicated graphic card? Say later if I wanna connect to hd or 4K tv?

for the board, ill go with the one mentioned in above suggestion.

For those usage, i5 is more than enough.

Playing 4K UHD video doesn't need dedicated GPU, the iGPU is enough.

Thanks bro.
After getting you guys help, i think i have gained quite a lot of perspectives on what is necessary to my daily needs. It seems like in the end, i might need to tone down my desire for something best and rather that suit my lifestyles. Yes , you were right on the amateur rigs. I dont need a designer casing and i might even not chasing for high gaming profiles since i realized i dont have the time or patience to get into the learning curve in the game itself. My main objective is to watch downloaded movie and editing for now, do i still need the graphic card to watch high res videos and some family video editing? Tq
*
No prob, Im a value oriented person.
if you download movie/watch and surf internet most of the time, even a cheap Pentium will do the job, you can still edit stuff on that too, it just takes a bit longer then i3/i5, how long its hard to tell, depends on what kind of software you use and how big your file is.
but it sounds like you are not using a professional editing software all the time (you mention edit for youtube?) so the Pentium may not even be that much slower then i3/i5, as its just small clips occasionally.

If you are not intending to play games then no need to buy a GPU.
Intel Pentium G3260 - RM216 - 3.3GHZ 2c,2t
Intel Core i3 6098P - RM 427 - 3.6GHZ 2c,4t - HD510
Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 470 - 3.7GHZ 2c,4t - HD530

The HD530 iGPU is a pretty good graphics, from memory i think its similar to GT730 which cost around RM300
The HD510 iGPU is a normal iGPU, it has only half Execution Units of the HD530
Pentium iGPU even worse, there are people on youtube able to play gtv 5 on this with lowest resolution with ok frame rates.
All the above iGPU will have no problem watching high res videos i mean 1080, not sure about 4k tho, you need to search online for that.

Just get the i3 6100
but personally if I were in your situation and want the best bang for buck, I would rather spend the money on Pentium + SSD
if i want to play some games, i would just buy eg gtx750ti down the road, i will not play games at lowest resolution, it just sucks.
If you can get the i3 -6100+ SSD even better.

I am currently using a fanless laptop with Core M 5y10c its similar to an i3 but with max 2.0 GHZ, it has a HD515 and it plays FULL HD 1080 8GB downloaded movies just fine.
this Core i3 6098P is faster then your typical i5/i7 laptops.

Well I believe that you don't really need a dedicated GPU, integrated (HD 530) should be fine for your usage, if you really need one, you can downgrade the i5 to i3 and then add in a GTX750Ti (if you need CUDA).

You can add a 120GB SSD if you need it.

Thanks for the quote Terence. Much appreciated. FYI I discovered that the RAM units provided by the supplier were not original hardware but I'm amazed that it lasted that long (5 years). Perhaps it's a contributing factor to the BSODs. In the future I will have to double check the hardware on all branded units to ensure that I'm not being cheated. Meantime I'm still diving in to figure out the actual cause of BSODs before I give up on the unit altogether.

If you don't game on this PC, then you can go for the cheaper i5 6402P (RM 689), if you do some light gaming, then pick the i5 6400 (RM 754) which comes with a more powerful iGPU (HD510 vs HD 530).

Other parts can remain.

Your usage might not even need an i5 since most of them are simple tasks.

On for 24/7 is not an issue for the hardware, it is all about your airflow, if the ambient temperature (your surroundings) is high, then you can consider buying few casing fans or switch to Tecware Alpha (RM 189) which comes with 2 extra front intake fans. The last resort would be getting a aftermarket CPU cooler if you still aren't satisfied with the temperature.

Good afternoon,

Here's my desktop spec:

Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990fx r2.0
RAM: 8 gb
GPU: ASUS Nvidia GTX680
Processor: AMD FX4300 Quad core

I am planning to upgrade my processor, as for GPU i have to wait and see on the Polaris and Pascal in next few months.

Is FX8350 a good upgrade ? I am using my desktop mostly for gaming and occasional work related stuff (using microsoft office).

I did some googling and many recommend switching to i3 or i5, but I cannot afford that, as the motherboard was just recent purchase around end of 2014.

Thank you.

Well you can sell off your current CPU & mobo & RAM and add the money into your upgrade funds for i5.

If you really want to stay with AMD, then yea FX8350 is one of the choices, if you care about your electricity bill, then you can pick the 8320E which is made for efficiency.

Hi everyone,

I am currently building one custom rig and below is the specification after some study (prices are from C-Zone, I believe the price won't differ too much between shops):

[CPU] CORE I3 6100 (2C/4T) - RM 466
[MAINBOARD] ASUS H110M-K - RM 292
[RAM] CORSAIR D4 PC2133 VALUE 8GB - RM 127
[HARDDISK] WESTERN DIGITAL BLUE 1TB - RM 201
[POWER SUPPLY] COOLER MASTER 460W ELITE POWER - RM 189
[CASING] COOLER MASTER ELITE SERIES CASING - RM 159

[MONITOR] SAMSUNG S24E310HL 23.6" - RM 535

Is there any parts that I can change where the cost can be reduced without downgrading the performance too much?

My main usage for this rig will be browsing internet, watching video and performing some office work. I don't have any preference in brands as well.

Thanks in advance.

The PSU can be downgraded but sadly C-Zone do not carry FSP PSU.
