Thanks a lot terence. Just thinking if I might be able to stretch another Rm200+-, is that better if I downgrade the GPU to GTX 950 and add SSD instead?  confused.gif

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 782
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 162
Zotac GTX 950 2GB GDDR5 ZT-90601-10L - RM 679
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 209
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Bitfenix Nova - RM 149

Total: RM 2673 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

woah dude, stay with GTX960 if you wanna play those AAA games, much better than GTX950, SSD just helps in reducing the time to boot up the applications sweat.gif

Does GTX980 worth the price ? Coz some ppl said that it is much better to get GTX970 as their differences are only in Cuda Cores (correct me if I'm wrong) I mean my friend want to build a high end rig for his work and games, but still hesitating to cash out his money for GTX980Ti, should he keep his money for GTX980Ti or just get a GTX980/970

By looking at the current price of GTX980 (around RM 2.3k+/-), it is totally not worth to invest on it, R9 390X which is few hundred cheaper than GTX980 is more worth in value and it is faster than GTX980 too.

I would suggest your friend to get GTX970/R9 390 for now and upgrade to GTX1000 series in Q3 when it gets released here  brows.gif
*
I see, but still, we're using softwares that'll utilize Cuda Cores, so if he cant wait for GTX1000 series, he can just go for GTX970 right ?

BTW, when is Q3 ? sweat.gif Is it around August and September ? From your experiences, if a new series of GPU released, does the price of the older generation drastically drop ? or just a little changes ? If the price differences are huge, ill ask him to wait until Q3

Suggest your pay the extra RM80 and stay with BenQ GW2270 instead, its a VA pannel almost as good as ISP, they are both superior viewing compared to cheap TN panel. Just go to any PC store and you can easily tell the difference in colour and viewing angles between TN and VA/ISP
Also this BenQ model is the Eye-care Monitor, ie flicker free.
its slightly bigger 20.7" vs 22"

I using the 24" thin bezel version instead and loving it.

You mention you are just a basic user, you may choose to downgrade to cheaper last gen system, ie haswell CPU + H81 mobo.
The money you save will be more then enough to cover for the BenQ GW2270 monitor with RM10-20 extra left over to your pocket
you will not notice any difference in performance,

You may choose to downgrade to a smaller cheaper case
Armageddon T1X - RM85. the last i checked it was all out of stock few weeks ago.

with the savings in case and last gen system, you can get a better/larger VA monitor, with about extra RM40 in savings you can invest that and upgrade to a 8GB ram instead of 4gb, but probably not notice any difference if you are a light user.
*
I see, tq for the explanation, this rig is for a friend of mine which she will upgrade later on, if you said so, ill ask her to stick with BenQ monitor then biggrin.gif

Just i3 will do?

can take out the SSD and change the i3 to i5?
*
if you're talking about 6th gen i5, then it is not enough, even if you take out the ssd, you still need to add around 200 to get i5, i think i5 is around rm800+

if you plan to upgrade i assume you mean the CPU later on.
then haswell chip may not be suitable as its an end of line mobo. in 2-3 years time it may be hard to find a new haswell chip, but 2nd hand will be cheap 2-3 year old i5 are going around RM400 these days.

if you stay with skylake mobo, it will last to at least cannon lake 2017, but by then you still probably need to spend RM800 for an new i5.

for casual user an pentium chip is fast enough, i3 would be sufficient too. no need i5.
office/internet stuff better use pentium chip save money and buy a SSD. better performance then i3/i5 with normal HDD.

i suggest your friend to upgrade to ssd in future instead of upgrading the processor to i3/i5.
she will feel a world of difference.
just turn on task manager and monitor your usage, you will find your cpu is seldom on 100% all the time.

I dont get it bro, the rig that has been suggested by terrence is using i7, why would someone change to i5/i3 from i7 ? are you sure you're replying to the correct post ? sweat.gif

oh i got confused for some reason i though you were the same as the other guy hackwire (budget PC)

lol i was saying stuff like downgrade pentium haswell instead and upgrade to 8gb ram in my previous 2 post lol

in that case if you can afford an i5/i7 then definitely get that BenQ 22" monitor
http://www.lelong.com.my/benq-22-va-led-mo...7-03-Sale-P.htm

I got an BenQ 24" EW2440 from lazada sale 5 months ago for RM525 good buy.

haha, its ok bro, ill make sure my friend get the BenQ monitor, just need to cash out some extra money biggrin.gif

I see 'E-tech' being mentioned a lot here, so I checked out the prices at their online store and found them to be mostly cheaper than anywhere else thumbup.gif  .. to those who are familiar with them, do they give any discount if you buy a complete rig (like what the stores at lowyat do biggrin.gif )?
*
If you're in Penang, there is also E-Tech here. They do give some discount if you're getting a complete rig thumbup.gif

another etech pc at kepong opened last year or last 2 years, and they are from feiton shop who closed their business last time.

both different shops la.

I did mentioned that both are different shops before as the one in Penang also have their own fb w/o any connection to E-Tech fb page. It just the one in Penang doesn't update much on their fb page sweat.gif

Thank you so much for the recommendation.  smile.gif

I have a couple of questions if you dont mind.

Can I get i7 instead of i5? i7 is better right?
Why is the graphic so expensive?
Is 8GB ram enough according to your experience?
Do I need the 1TB HDD? I was thinking of using external HDD for storage.
*
both of them are the same, if you're going to multi task a lot, better take i7, if not, just go with i5
for the graphic, you said that your boyfriend want a good graphic, good graphic : more expensive
8GB ram is enough, based on my experience, dont know bout others sweat.gif
For the HDD, up to you

Hi,

Looking to buy a PC for my dad. Had a look at the previous suggested builds and come up with these from lelong:

AOC 23.6” I2476VWM IPS LED MONITOR - 629.00
INTEL SKYLAKE CORE I5-6500 PROCESSOR - 815.00
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - 195.00
Asus 24X Green Power DVD Writer - 69.00
Corsair Value Select 8GB DDR4 2133MHz - 133.00
ASROCK H110M-DGS/D3 - 250.00
WESTERN DIGITAL 3.5” 1TB - 215.00
ZOTAC GEFORCE GTX 750 TI - 489.00
FSP HEXA+ 450W - 166.00
TECWARE ALPHA ATX CASE - 189.00

Total price: 3,150.00

Any comments? he wouldn't be doing any gaming but i think the rig should at least have a minimum GC right?
or better save the money to topup somewhere else?

Also, is it worth to go for an i7 processor? price wouldnt be an issue.
Just want to ask whether there would be any significant advantages or difference for day to day use compared to the i5?
*
if you want the people here to help, state your usage for your rig, it will ease the discussions biggrin.gif

Nope, even the highest end gaming IPS monitor only managed to go as fast as 4ms.

IPS is generally having slower response time, go for TN/VA if you need 1ms, but I don't think you can see the difference with human eyes.

I have Dell U2417H (8ms) and I literally see no difference if compared with my gaming monitor  innocent.gif
The items listed are Skylake products man  sweat.gif
*
bro, what monitor do you recommend to pair for a GPU such as GTX1080/980/970 ?
