Any good recommendations for a Monitor to be paired with RX 480?

Must be:
- At least 144 Hz
- At least 1080p (bigger is better I guess)
- Have Freesnyc

I have around 3k budget.'

Currently looking at ASUS MG279Q , but reviews on the net scares me.
BENQ XL270Z3 sounds about right, but 1080p,...I dont know..

Please advise or educate me haha.

Thank you.
*
The max screen size that I would go for 1080p panel is 24", anything > 24" is more ideal on 2K QHD.

There is an AOC FreeSync monitor just entered our market, AOC G2460PF, < 1.2k only.

Spending > 2k for a 1080p FreeSync is totally not worth the money, 2K QHD or 4K UHD should be the main choice when you are going to spend > 2k for a monitor.

Budget = rm4000 (itx)

Purpose = multimedia gaming

Games softwares = dota 2, fallout 4

Requirements = able to play the games at least at 50fps

Chassis = phanteks enthoo evolv itx
*
First, Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX is out of stock almost everywhere, distributor isn't going to restock this model anytime soon. GBros still got 1 unit left last week, not sure if it is sold or not, contact them if you really want this case.

And please let me know if you have any hardware to reuse (monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.).

Yeah AOC G2460PF looks nice, thank you. I'll check it out.  nod.gif

But, IF I go 2k QHD or 4k UHD , is there any good monitor for RX 480?
*
I won't recommend you to go for 4K UHD on RX 480 though, it is basically a FHD card (or 2K QHD at slightly lower FPS output than FHD).

There is a very limited FreeSync monitor in Malaysia due to high market share of Nvidia GPU in our local market segment.

BenQ XL2730Z, 2K QHD TN 144Hz
Samsung U28E590DS, 4K UHD TN 60Hz

If you go for Nvidia then there are many choices.

I was looking at these two boards. Need opinion which would be a better option?

Gigabyte B150M-D3H
Asus B150M Pro Gaming

or maybe can suggest other model?
*
Both are under different pricing tiers.

Gigabyte B150M-D3H is more value in money and offers all the basic features that should be present on a B150 board whereas Asus B150M Pro Gaming looks more premium but it comes with a expensive price tag for that.

With the pricing of Asus B150M Pro Gaming, you already can get a standard ATX mobo such as Gigabyte H170-HD3.

There is a cheaper one, MSI B150M Pro-VDH, < RM 350, the only difference in terms of features is no M.2 support only, if you don't have any plan to use M.2 SSD in the upcoming years then this will a great saving.

If you are going for aesthetic purpose (black and red theme) and have enough budget, then you can go for Asus one, if you are only finding for a best value performance mobo then either Gigabyte/MSI is good to go.

I just found out why G-sync monitor expensive. I thought because of branding only. So monitor manufacture actually have to pay Nvidia for the G-sync module they use in the monitors. Hmm I guess when you're almost dominant, can charge anything.
*
Yes it is due to the GSync module, even it is expensive, there are still many GSync adopters out there though.

Sadly AMD is kinda weak in Malaysia, we have limited choices on the FreeSync monitor sweat.gif

Hi,

My Budget is around RM 5-6k exclude peripherals such as monitors, keyboard and mouse.

Usage of the rig are for normal gaming such as GTA 5, FIFA 16 and first person shooter gaming. I'm a huge fan of triple monitors setup and will required wireless connectivity for Internet.

Would prefer sleek white casing design. NZXT maybe?
Pls help to recommend. Thanks
*
I am in love with Corsair Carbide 400C at the moment, NZXT S340 is not bad too but the "semi" transparent window isn't attractive enough laugh.gif

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1289
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 446
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 260
Zotac GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 AMP! - RM 2219
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 249
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
TP-LINK T8E AC1750 Dual Band PCIe WiFi - RM 215
Corsair Carbide 400C White - RM 485

Total: RM 5741 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Weak in Malaysia? I though they were weak globally before this. But maybe their Polaris will change things. Read that for US RX 480 debut this 29th, AMD has 25X the stock size of Nvidia's GTX 1080 launch. Anyway, I need to get AMD card soon. Have to try out my monitor freesync.
*
Yes, their market share is much lower than Nvidia globally, but for the gamers in US (and other countries), they have plenty of FreeSync monitors to choose from, we as a Malaysian are currently stuck with few limited models only, I am emphasizing on the FreeSync monitor choice, not GPU, we do have wide range of AMD GPU to choose from in Malaysia (Sapphire, PowerColor, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and XFX which just re-joined the Malaysian market recently).

hi, is there any difference in gaming between 144hz and 60hz? and will a curve screen fare better in terms of viewing experience?
*
Yes, huge difference if your GPU can output 144Hz, if your GPU can only manage to output 60Hz on a 144Hz monitor then you won't see the difference.

You can experience 144Hz in desktop mode as well, so just go to any shop that has 144Hz demo monitor to feel the difference.

Curve screen is another example of 144Hz case, you will only know the difference when you have tried it personally, for me, yes it provides me a very nice experience especially gaming biggrin.gif

how do i know if my GC can output 144hz or not? r9 290 ok? or need upgrade?
*
It depends on the game and settings you run, for MOBA/casual games like Dota 2, R9 290 should be able to output up to 144 FPS on 1080p at nearly maxed out settings, if it drops below 144 FPS, you can either tolerate with the FPS drops and screen tearing or tune down the graphics settings to get a consistent 144 FPS.

For triple A titles, nope, most likely you won't get 144 FPS unless you run everything on low/med.

ok, got it. and shud i opt for qwhd or 4k? any big difference? and does a freesync monitor really helps or just gimmick

QUOTE(bingding @ Jun 27 2016, 03:32 PM)
what card u recommend to run 144hz 2k or 4k 60 hz
*
FreeSync and GSync both are awesome technology, once you tried, it is hard to go back brows.gif

There is barely a GPU that can output at 144Hz at 2K QHD max settings in triple A titles now, that's why we have FreeSync/GSync, it helps to synchronize the frame rates (especially slow frame-timed frames) and store them in the module after sequencing them, the monitor will then push out the display in the correct sequence and interval so everything will look smooth even with different frame rates.

GTX1070/1080 average FPS in triple A titles hovers around 80 - 110 currently at 2K QHD resolution, it shouldn't be an issue when you have GSync monitor while 4K UHD is around 30 - 45.

Thanks! another question is .. 8 x 4 or 16 x 2 for 32GB RAM? any difference? i'm still in a middle whether should i go 2 or 4 RAM slot mobo
*
Skylake RAM is still based on dual channel, so running 16GB x 2 will be slightly faster than running 8GB x 4 at two dual channel mode.

when u say smooth, is it at 144hz or ..?
*
If the output is 144 FPS then it will be 144 FPS, the refresh rate of the monitor will follow exactly the output frame rate from the GPU so there is no delay/too fast case between the monitor and GPU, all thanks to variable refresh rate support from the module.

There are numerous of videos on YouTube which help to explain the technology behind GSync and FreeSync, have a watch to understand more.

If there is a good reason to stay matx instead of mitx, what would it be? laugh.gif
*
1. More PCI/PCIe slots for WiFi card/sound card/PCIe SSD etc.
2. More RAM slots, some mATX boards offer only 2 RAM slots though, so make sure to get the one with 4 RAM slots if you want mATX
3. More SATA ports since most of the mITX boards only come with 4 or 5 SATA ports.

Thanks but what if I bump up my budget to approx 4.5-4.7k? Can I get a better motherboard with an additional ssd ? Or should I invest in a better processor ?
*
If gaming is the top priority, then I will go for GTX1070, the cheapest one is from Palit, RM 1999 (Jetstream version).

Mobo doesn't affect performance, cheaper mobo = less features.

So let me know which one is your top priority, gaming or video editing? If it is video editing, do you do it everyday or just occasionally?

BTW i5 is already good enough for gaming, so getting an i7 will help to shorten the time needed to finish a video rendering, frame rate gain in games is very small unless it is very CPU demanding.

Priority would be gaming. I would say 10 times game, 6 times edit videos and it's not 4K videos all the time also. Is the 1070 comparable to the rx480 in your opinion ?
*
GTX1070 and RX480 are under different tiers, GTX1070 packs with Titan X's performance while RX480 is between GTX980 and R9 390X (estimated, Firestrike score is around 13200 and that's the position in the ranking), so the performance difference is around 1.4x

Well you should ask yourself, are you planning to run games at everything maxed out? If yes then I suggest you to pick a better GPU, if no then you can focus in getting SSD/better mobo/monitor etc.

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Jun 27 2016, 10:40 PM)
Noted. I will go for 620Watt for my build. The reason I want to get mATX is because mATX has additional PCIE slot. I may need those slots to get other cards. for ITX, i remember there is only one PCIE slot ( Correct me if I'm wrong ).
I may go for Phantek P400s. As Fractal Design Node 804 is meant for water cooling ( correct me if I'm wrong) and not looking at the cube case at the moment. Not sure whether this Phentek P400S is ok or not.

O well, I'm not so sure which shop is good in Singapore since Funan Digital Mall has closed down, thus my only choice will be in Sim Lim Square which I don't quite like that place. Or do you have any recommended shop or vendor in Singapore I can look for?

Noted on the power. Just need to confirm it before i made the order.
*
If you plan to get another card for SLI/CF in the future, then you need to get a SLI/CF ready mATX mobo too and the option is very limited in Malaysia, we only got 1 model which is the expensive Asus Maximus VIII Gene, I am not sure if the situation is same in SG or not, if yes then prepare to burn your wallet for it biggrin.gif

Phanteks P400s (a.k.a Eclipse) is a standard ATX mid tower, if the size is ok for you then go ahead nod.gif

Both P400s and FD Node 804 support liquid cooler (radiator mounting point available), they aren't really made or aimed for liquid cooling build, almost all cases have at least 1 radiator mounting point (120mm) now, even the lower end one like Tecware Alpha, it has become a trend to have at least 1 even though it might not be useful for all users out there.

I am not familiar with the shop in SG, sorry cannot help you on this sweat.gif
