currently not planning to overclock but is good if have the feature

currently 1080 60hz in future maybe want to upgrade to 144hz
*
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming - RM 699
Corsair Vengeance LED 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 3200MHz RAM - RM 469
Palit GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 Gamerock - RM 2099
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Tecware Alpha - RM 199

Total: RM 4044 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Optional upgrade:
1. Kingston SSDNow UV400 120/240GB SSD - RM 153/249
2. 3rd party cooler (can use stock cooler since you aren't going to overclock now)

Recommending GTX1070 over RX480 due to more processing power, RX480 is packing with GTX970(OC)/GTX980(stock)'s performance, so it is definitely not enough juice for 144Hz gaming in triple A titles.

Hi,

Currently using these spec:
CPU: A10 7850K
GPU: Gigabyte R9 390X Gaming 8GB
MBB: Asrock Fatal1ty FM2A88X+ Killer
RAM: 16GB

is my CPU bottleneck in your opinion?
kindly advise
*
Depends on games, A10 7850K is basically equal to first gen i5/i7 in terms of gaming performance.

You are likely to experience GPU underutilized issue (bottleneck) when running CPU demanding games (most of the triple A titles).

There are many IPS GSync monitors in Malaysia for you to choose from.

1. Acer Predator XB270HU (succeeded by XB271HU)
2. Acer Predator XB271HU
3. Acer Predator X34
4. Asus PG27AQ
5. Asus PG279Q

Are there any decent z170 boards ITX sized being sold in Malaysia?
*
Asus Z170I Pro Gaming - Excellent VRM implementation & design (9 VRM in total), no USB Type C, Intel LAN

Asus Maximus VIII Impact - The most expensive Z170 ITX board in Malaysia, packs with premium ROG features and superior Asus ROG board quality

Gigabyte Z170N-Gaming 5 - Only 5 VRM and poor heatsink design, heat dissipation is weaker than others, comes with USB Type-C, no Intel LAN, placement of few connectors is kinda weird (not cable management friendly), cheapest among all the others

MSI Z170I Gaming Pro AC - Only 5 VRM, no USB Type-C, Intel LAN, placement of few connectors is kinda weird (not cable management friendly), within similar price range as Asus Z170I Pro Gaming which makes it not so worth

Hi, it's me again

After seeing the results of rx480 and some comments
I am planning to change from 480 polaris to 1070 pascal.

I wonder if it is possible to maintain ITX rig(minimal look, less space and easy to carry), with 1070 inside?

Budget around 4,000 (can be stretched to 4,500)
Will be using it for MOBA games, overwatch , the witcher 3, web browsing and streaming

It would be great if the build consists of;

256gb ssd
2tb hdd
Modular PSU
A case like Node 202 (I like this case but sadly no 3.5" and I doubt 1070 can fit)

Any recommendation for a good Gsync monitor to pair with 1070?
Budget around 2,500
After reading in other sub forums, monitor with 144hz 1440p is for better experience. CMIIW icon_rolleyes.gif

Gonna keep these budgets on point as I need to buy other peripherals as well..
*
SFF build is recommended to use reference card (a.k.a FE for Nvidia) due to its blower cooler which blows the heat out of the case but FE is not so budget friendly this time around, the build below contains all your personal preferences but it is over your budget, you can either remove the SSD or get a 120GB SSD/1TB HDD to cut down the total cost.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 835
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 315
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 130
Gigabyte GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 OC - RM 2099
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 249
Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD - RM 304
Silverston SX500-LG - RM 412
Silverston ML07B - RM 286

Total: RM 4603 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

I recommend you to get Acer Predator XB271HU (2K QHD 165Hz IPS, RM 3199 with free Acer Predator Gaming Headset now), but yea it is over budget again sweat.gif

Another option would be XB281HK but it is a 4K UHD TN monitor with 60Hz limitation though, price is within your budget which is RM 2499 currently.

Bro Terence, generally what is the difference between motherboard makers when it comes to voltage and spike protection? Seems to be marketed a lot of by Asus & ASRock.

I also notice that Type C is not so common, some boards have it but seems like all boards still transfer at 5Gbps (aka Type 3.0 or Type 3.1 Gen 1), which means nothing special until Type 3.1 Gen2 or even Thunderbolt 3. I can just get a Type C to USB3.0 adapter for physical compatibility, but too bad cannot utilize the high speeds of Thunderbolt for future monitor use.

[mATX]
Asus H170M-PLUS
ASRock H170M Pro4
MSI H170M PRO-VDH

[mITX]
Gigabyte GA-H170N-Wifi
Asus B150I PRO GAMING/WIFI/AURA
MSI B150 Gaming M3
*
Actually most of them are doing the same thing/job, which is trying to protect the mobo from frying up when excessive voltage is detected/lightning strike etc, some provide basic protections (lower end mobo) only which protect the important components such as CPU, RAM etc, some provide LAN protection, capacitor/VRM protection etc.

USB Type-C is still not widely used yet (mostly smartphones now), so some manufacturers opt to skip it and use the slot for other connector instead and Skylake doesn't support USB 3.1 officially (will be supported in Kaby Lake), manufacturers have to use their own controller for USB 3.1 port that's why some of them have limitation.

Hi, need help determine if a gpu can fit in my case or not.

im using bitfenix neos case, the dimension is 185 x 429 x 470 (WxHxD)
https://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products...os-window#specs

if i consider to buy custom gtx 1070 with 2/3 fans, can fit or not?

http://www.lelong.com.my/zotac-geforce-gtx...7-01-Sale-I.htm (325mm x 148mm)

http://www.lelong.com.my/palit-geforce-gtx...7-01-Sale-I.htm (285mm x 133mm)

http://www.lelong.com.my/gigabyte-geforce-...7-01-Sale-I.htm (H=42 L=286 W=115 mm)

thank you
*
Based on the review, the max length for GPU is 310mm so Zotac AMP Extreme won't fit, the other 2 cards are fine.

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS X99-A II = 11700
VIDEO CARD: ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 = 28990
MEMORY:Vengeance® LPX 4x8GB DDR4-2666 = 5400
SOLID-STATE DRIVE: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB = 4290
HARD DRIVE:  WD Caviar Black 1TB = 2680
CASE: ZALMAN Z11 Neo = 2090
POWER SUPPLY: EVGA Supernova G2 850W = 5900
CPU COOLER:  Corsair H110i  = 5290
MONITOR: Acer Predator X34 =39900
Speaker: Razer Leviathan = 8190

What would you add or remove from the list that might be better

*price in thai baht since I'm expat there
*
Hard to comment since I don't know what's the hardware market situation in Thailand but everything is ok, as in compatibility (not price/performance though).

Ah okay, in that case it is quite useful esp during rainy season laugh.gif. I've been looking more towards the 3 boards below, and find that the Gigabyte has better audio chipset and removable wifi module (meaning got 1x extra pcie slot) while the Asus has the VRM/surge resistance. Not sure which one to choose now lol tongue.gif. I'm guessing I do not need USB3.1 anyway cause USB3.0 is fast enough, and if speed is needed it'll just be for data transfer, which Sata express is good enough smile.gif

[mITX]
Gigabyte GA-H170N-Wifi
Asus B150I PRO GAMING/WIFI/AURA
MSI B150 Gaming M3
*
MSI B150 Gaming M3 isn't a mITX mobo, it is a standard ATX mobo.

If the price is similar then I will pick H170 over B150 anytime, spending so much for a B150 doesn't make too much sense.

Hi to all sifu,

My 6.5 years old rig has fallen and I can't revive it.

Is this a good time to get a new rig?

Planning to go Lowyat to get it done, any recommendation on the shop?

My budget is 2.5k (exclude Monitor and GC) Plan to get RX480 later and currently using 144hz monitor 1080p. Not planning to do any OC or SLI, just would like to have a good rig that can last.

Would like to have SSD, 16GB RAM, i5 processor any suggestion? For Mobo, would like to have a durable one.
*
Well personally I rarely go to Lowyat Plaza to buy rig nowadays due to uncompetitive pricing and sometimes the mall is just crowded with a lot of people and sellers asking the exact same question "Laptop Sir?" yawn.gif

Avoid RX480 for now due to power consumption issue where it will cause damage to your mobo permanently (it violates the PCIe power draw limit).

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 849
MSI B150M Bazooka (D4) - RM 392
Kingston 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 286
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 249
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 211
Seasonic S12II 620W - RM 302
Tecware Alpha - RM 196

Total: RM 2485 (Cycom price inclusive of GST)

Hello,

What if I want to change the rig to mid tower instead?
The new alpha spec from Corsair caught my attention though tongue.gif

As for the monitor, XB271HU promo or just a bundle?
Since I wanted to get a separate headset, maybe I can compromise with this.

For the rig I don't mind to top up a few hundreds for better performance / future proof, I will compromise with my other peripherals like mech KB and mouse.

Thanks as always terence!
*
Price will be almost similar with mITX build (I swapped the Gigabyte GPU to Palit GPU because it is cheaper).

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 835
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 130
Palit GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 Jetstream - RM 1999
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 249
Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD - RM 304
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Corsair Carbide Spec-Alpha - RM 364

Total: RM 4623 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

The free headset is a promotion from Acer Malaysia, please take note that this promotion is not valid in all stores, the best would be getting the monitor directly from Acer, either via their physical store or online store.

Oh well the promotion seems to be ended yesterday (31/6/2016) according to the brochure distributed by Acer Malaysia (just noticed when browsing the net), nevertheless, you can still ask them if they are going to extend the promotion or can find the "lubang" for you to get the headset for free if you are interested.

Lets say... Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, GTA V, Mirror's Edge
*
Those games are quite CPU demanding especially when you have a lot of AI drivers in Assetto Corsa and Project Cars, high density area in GTA V will also increase overall CPU usage, a Haswell/Skylake i5 can even hit 100% usage on all 4 cores in those areas so you can imagine what's gonna happen with FX6300 sweat.gif

But choice is yours, you can opt for FX6300 + GTX970 for better graphics settings but it might hold back the performance of the card if CPU couldn't catch up with the demand of the games and vice versa nod.gif

by the way, any reason choosing corsair over kingston? and between asus and asrock for itx sized mobo which ones is better in term of reliablity? hmm.gif  appreciate your opinion
*
The price of RAM from both brands (C and K) is almost similar (within RM 5+/-), I will just go on with the cheapest one, RAM comes with lifetime warranty FYI.

Asus mITX board is more expensive compared to ASRock mITX board, usually for budget build, I will pick the cheapest (if not, cheaper) one to keep everything well within the budget.

About reliability, both brands are almost similar TBH, it depends on your usage, for example, exposing the board in a high temperature for a prolonged period will certainly shorten the lifespan or increase the chance of failure. If you are willing to fork out extra RM 50+/-, then you can pick Asus one anytime, Asus is more "premium" in Malaysia after all (cannot deny it tongue.gif ).

So far I haven't encountered any major issue from both of these brands (probably I am lucky enough to get a defective free unit laugh.gif )

hi, currently im on
intel pentium g3240
GTX 650

I have RM400 budget right now
this is what i have in mind
RM 400 i can get i5 4440 ( yeah found the seller)
or
G3258 + aftermarket cooler RM XXX< RM 400

which one is the better upgrade?

I mean like if g3258 can handle pc games well why not?
is there any bottlenecking somewhere down the line if pair with my current gpu?
I have a hard time getting constant 60fps at high setting in DOTA 2 with my current specs. Is it the gpu or the proc? I bet its the cpu because DOTA 2 is CPU
intensive game am i right?
*
QUOTE(amimaumakan @ Jul 2 2016, 07:35 AM)
my PSU 600W 80+ bronze mobo gigabyte B85M-HD3
*
Ever since Dota 2 changed to Source 2 engine, the CPU usage is increased slightly where G3258 is unable to keep up in game during heavy teamfight, overclocking it to 4.4 - 4.8GHz might help, but it requires a decent 3rd party cooler, so just go for used i5 instead, a much better choice and less hassle (you can use back the stock cooler also).

GTX650 can't max out the graphics settings in 1080p at stable 60 FPS (teamfight included) unless you run the Vulkan build of Dota 2, it helps to reduce the overhead that you face in DX11 for better performance but still not guaranteed can have smooth 1080p60, Valve is working very hard now to optimize its Vulkan Dota 2 build to benefit the lower end PC.

I see noted with thanks. I prefer asrock over asus anytime haha. I noticed asrock only got one model of matx sized mobo? I am planning to build small sized CPU for the size of bitfenix prodigy. Will be the matx/ mitx will fit?
*
Hmm so you are building mITX or mATX? Bitfenix Prodigy is a mITX case so mATX won't fit (I see you asked for ASRock mATX mobo so I assume you want mATX).

There are many mATX mobo out there, including ASRock, from low end H110 to mid end B150/H170 and also the highest end Z170 (Skylake platform).
