So to summarise again..

Current shopping list:-
Monitor 23" - RM700
KB+mouse - RM125
speaker - ready
casing - ready
miscelaneous - RM100
RX480 - RM900
Kingston Ram 8GB - RM130
TOTAL - Max RM2,125

If the RX480 is more than 1k i think I'll get an R7 370 (is it a good card?)

Monitor 23" - RM700
KB+mouse - RM125
speaker - ready
casing - ready
miscelaneous - RM100
R7 370 - RM700
Kingston Ram 8GB - RM130
TOTAL - Max RM1,755
*
R7 370 is not quite worth at the moment, simply because of the price tag of RX 480 biggrin.gif

23" monitor can go as low as RM 400 (not necessary RM 700 unless you are going for Dell IPS).

Ya, the monitor choice is more likely the same as in SG. Just one question, 2k resolution is better to put on 27 inches or above size right?

fsp hexa 550w
coolermaster k280

is it possible to play pes 2016 in high setting with this spec?
*
Haven't played PES 2016 before so I have a quick check on the system requirements, the recommended specs are i3 530 and GTX 260.

Pentium G4400 is on par with i3 530 but GPU (GT730) is weaker than the suggested GTX 260, if everything performs correctly according to the recommended specs, then I don't think GT730 can get you a very good frame rate on high settings.

[Budget]
RM 5,000.00

[Purpose]
Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
SAMSUNG 840 PRO 256GB
WD Black 750GB HDD (2.5")
Both are from my current gaming laptop

[Monitor resolution]
1080P / 1440P

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
GTA V, Witcher 3, Doom, CIV 5, basically a lot of gaming
No video/photoshop

[Personal preferences]
Prefer to try and get the GTX 1070 into the build. If not, 480?
Would need a monitor & keyboard recommendation as well.

[Location]
Klang Valley
*
Performance difference between GTX1070 and RX 480 is very huge, they are aiming different user base.

GTX1070 is slightly faster than the previous GPU king, Titan X while RX 480 is meant to replace R9 390/GTX970/GTX980 at a much cheaper price tag. So in a nut shell, GTX1070 packs almost twice the performance of RX 480. So swapping from GTX1070 to RX 480 will bring down almost half of the frame rate that you can get in-game ya sweat.gif

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1305
MSI B150M Pro-DH (D4) - RM 346
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 262
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Tecware Alpha - RM 199

Total: RM 2475 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Palit GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 Jetstream - RM 1999 (Estimated, leaked price in Nvidia thread, TBC)

Total: RM 4474

You left around RM 500 for monitor and KB. If you aren't going to get an expensive mechanical/gaming KB then you can settle with cheap Logitech Wired KB (< RM 50). As for monitor, RM 500 cannot do much, unless you top up your budget or swap to RX 480.

Downgrading from i7 to i5 is also a good option here to cover up the cost for monitor and other parts.

Hello Guys,

Are there any place that sell EVGA P2 650W power supply? If I buy one abroad, will the warranty cover in Malaysia as well?
*
EVGA PSU is not available in Malaysia officially.

EVGA does have global/international warranty policy but since their PSU isn't available in Malaysia so I am not sure if they will accept RMA locally or not, but you can always send back to the origin country for RMA via courier service if they allow customer to do so.

If you can wait then you can consider waiting for RX 470 which was announced yesterday in E3 2016, RX 470 is packing the performance of R9 290/GTX 780 at a very attractive price. If you cannot wait then you have to settle with last gen card (GTX960 or R9 380).

Hmm... looks like I'd really go with a GTX1070.

What case would you recommend if i want to go for a small form factor build?

What i5 chip would be best to compliment the build?
*
It depends on which GTX1070 (or other GPU) you are going to get, I think you gonna settle with a "larger" SFF case like CM Elite 130 (long), Phanteks Evolv ITX (quite big to be called as mITX somehow), Bitfenix Prodigy etc unless there is a mITX GTX1070 (or single fan version) that can fit in CM Elite 110, Silverstone SFF cases.

As for i5 CPU selection, you can go for i5 6500.

Hi all,

Basically I lost touch on PC already for many years, the last i bought was around 2006 or 2007 I guess. So now it is time to build a new PC rig. Basically i am planning to get i7-6700 or i7-6700K processor. And I think right now the motherboard i should get should be something like 170 series right, for skylake processors? There are simply too many options for motherboard and i am not sure which one i should be getting. Same goes for RAM, is basic DDR4 RAM good enough?

oh yeah, if possible, i want to build a small rig, mini-ITX probably out of question, and i hope there will be a suggestion for micro-ATX instead of the normal big size mid-Tower casing.

Thanks!
*
Your budget is unable to build a rig that is ready for VR (min requirement for VR is i5 4460 and GTX970 currently).

If you were to fit an i7 in a 3k rig then you gonna sacrifice a lot on other parts, namely GPU, i5 is more budget friendly and basic H110/B150 mobo is enough for your usage, getting H170/Z170 will increase the total cost needed.

Monitor isn't listed in "Hardware to reuse" so I guess you gonna need a new monitor right? QHD (1440p) is out of your budget because it costs at least 1.4k in local market, you gonna settle with cheap TN 1080p monitor for now (or a VA panel if budget allows).

May I know your exact PSU model?

This build is based on what you can get in local market currently, it might change in next couple of weeks when AMD RX 460 and RX 470 arrive in local market, so if you aren't in a rush, you can consider waiting for their arrival, they are based on new AMD Polaris architecture and carry more performance than the GPU that you can buy locally now within similar price range.

Hi Terence,

Can you advise on the minimum build which is good enough for VR (as future proofing for upgrade)... i think i can go to 4k if necessary. For processor, can assume the cost is based on i5 price...

Thanks.

Are you still considering to reuse your current PSU? If yes, please provide the exact PSU model name so I can justify whether it can work with new system or not.

cos some parts i think lowyat plaza there doesnt sell
*
It will be either same or slightly more/less expensive unless the part that you want to buy is following the RRP set by distributor.

And yes product choice will be different too, if you want to get it from LYP, then you have to choose the appropriate replacement for those items that are not available.

It is either GTX960 or R9 380 for now.

Different brand is having different price, premium brand such as Asus, MSI and Gigabyte usually are more expensive, you aren't advised to get them if the price is over RM 950, not worth the money, used GTX970 is just around RM 1000 and carries twice the performance of GTX960.

RX 470/460 is coming soon, probably in next few weeks FYI.

Got another questions sifus,

If i were to get a new mid-high tier graphic card (RX480 or GTX970 or R7 370), would it be better to put in my current rig:-

I5 - 4440 @ 3.10ghz
8gb ram
asrock mini itx
gtx 660
128gb ssd
1tb hdd
psu - forget

OR

better to put it into my old rig as stated in my siggy?

PS: My old rig GPU burnt.

Either one is one, if you overclock your 2600K then it will be more preferred.

Hi, I have a pretty barebone desktop without a graphics card. Just wondering what I need to change and upgrade so that it may run let's say GTA V/Witcher 3 on high/ultra settings in 1080p. If the price is too high then I'm willing to make compromise. Everything is pretty much brand new, might have to trade in the processsor if it bottlenecks. Will a RX 480 be good?
*
You are advised to upgrade to at least i5 for those triple A titles listed, RX480 is good enough for 1080p.
