Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 815
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 148
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 209
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Bitfenix Nova - RM 149
Total rm 1800

Grretings. Is this good  enough for non gaming pc? I will use this just for internet browsing and watch hd video. Should i downgrade core i5 to i3?  Budget only around 2k max. Tq
*
Yes, more than enough.

You can downgrade to i3 to save money, add a 1TB HDD if storage is not enough.

PSU can be downgraded too, it is too overkill, get FSP Hexa+ 400W instead (~RM 150).

Edit, price update.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 464
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 133
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 195
FSP Hexa+ 400W - RM 145
Bitfenix Nova - RM 149

Total: RM 1375 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Intel Pentium G3260 - RM 229

Toshiba 500GB HDD - RM 179

Cheap ATX/mATX case ~ RM 100

Suggested last gen (4th gen) CPU since it is slightly cheaper.

Just get any cheap ATX/mATX casing, some of them might come with PSU, but you are advised not to use it because those are crappy PSU sweat.gif

Included a decent PSU which can support high end GPU and upcoming hardware upgrades, you can downgrade it if you want to keep below 2k.

The internal GPU is Intel HD 530 (from CPU).

Ladies and Gents

My ageing Acer Veriton (small footprint desktop) is beginning to give me BSODs and I have to be prepared to break my piggy bank for a new rig.

I'd like a recommendation for under 2K if possible for a new rig to replace it. I use my machine for work (Acad, Office) and some data processing using proprietary software which may be graphics intensive. No games.

Any chance that this can be a small footprint would be great because I don't have a lot of desk space and I prefer to not put it on the floor.

And yes I will be using my existing monitors. I just need the rig. Note that my monitors use VGA and DVI connectors (old versions).

Thanks and regards

Well I believe that you don't really need a dedicated GPU, integrated (HD 530) should be fine for your usage, if you really need one, you can downgrade the i5 to i3 and then add in a GTX750Ti (if you need CUDA).

You can add a 120GB SSD if you need it.

Hi there Terence, after going through some research, I've decided to go for a Mini-ITX build so at least it's easier to carry my PC around as I'm studying and sometimes I do go back home for a few months. I'm eyeing the
SILVERSTONE RVZ02 MINI-ITX from Etech. Any recommended build for it? Planning to up my budget to 3-3.5k if needed. Thank you so much!

Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 195
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Silverstone SX500-LG - RM 412
Silverstone RVZ02 - RM 349

Total: RM 3037 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

You can upgrade the CPU to i5 if you wish.

If you need to include the 144Hz monitor in the budget then you have to either increase budget or downgrade some of the parts.

144hz monitor bought already so no need to be included in the budget hehe. Okay will go with i5 then. Power supply for mini itx builds are generally always very expensive huh?  rclxub.gif

Some ITX cases require SFX or SFX-L PSU, RVZ02 is one of them.

Yes you can.

For GTA medium settings, I would recommend you to pick GTX960 or R9 380, pick 4GB variant if possible, price is around 1k.

Yes I know it is going to be light to medium but what settings and games (triple A titles/casual MOBO etc.) you are looking to run/play and please state your max budget, not just 3k+ because 3k+ means min is 3k and no max limit.

QUOTE(Leon be here now @ May 1 2016, 10:41 PM)
wow this new p version of i5 and i3 is cheaper then the usual i5-6400 / i3-6100
i5 6402p
i3 6098P

only difference i can see is its 0.1GHZ slower and iGPU HD510 instead of HD530
and a huge $$ saving of 8-9%
which is great for someone intending to buy a GPU or on a budget and dont need a fast iGPU.

Would you recommend anyone on the old Xeon E3-1231 vs i7 skylake (assume they will be getting GPU), the potential saving of around RM260 with cpu+mobo combo?
*
I don't understand what you mean sorry.

Old Haswell Xeon E3 1231 V3 upgrade to latest Skylake i7 6700 and not the Xeon E3 1230 V5?

i7 + H110/B150 is cheaper than Xeon E3 1230 V5 + WS chipset.

Oh I'm sorry
It will be used for dota 2 maybe mid settings

For budget pls consider max myr 3500

Thx
*
Alright, if Dota 2 only then 3.5k is quite overkill, I picked GTX750Ti in this build mainly to help you to save money, if you play other games then you can upgrade to GTX960/R9 380. GTX750Ti can run Dota 2 at max settings (1080p60).

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1242
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 403
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 133
Zotac GTX750Ti 2GB GDDR5 ZT-70605-10M - RM 489
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 195
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware Alpha - RM 199

Total: RM 3054 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Optional upgrade:
1. Asus GTX960 4GB GDDR5 Turbo - RM 954
2. Sapphire R9 380 4GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 989
3. Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 133

First I was making a comment on the better value new chips
i5 6402p
i3 6098P

Then i was suggesting  E3-1231 V3 + H61 rather then i7 Skylake+ H110
Save about RM260, worth it for people on the budget?

here is another example RM230 topup can get from i5 to i7
i5 6402p RM745
H110 RM289
Total 1034
-slower sore speeds
-latest socket

E3-1231 V3 RM1063
H61  RM200
total RM1263
-faster core speeds
-last gen socket
*
First you need to find a shop which still got Haswell CPU stock, most of them already phased out but I think there are still some leftover stocks though.

You need H81/B85/H97/H87/Z87/Z97, H61 is under LGA1155.

If don't care about which generation and only want to opt for best price/performance/best for buck build then you can pick the Haswell Xeon anytime.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] monitor , keyboard and mouse

some key components which is prefered

- 8 or 16 gb ddr4 ram
- 1 TB
- chasis nzxt h440 razer edition
-aio liquid cooler for cpu

If you want to run games on ultra settings, you better get a more powerful GPU, GTX970 can run ultra but not with a steady 60 FPS on 1080p.

i was looking at this Dell specs and budget. can i get a rig better than this one with the same budget but better performance than dell? i need to do some video editing, gaming and a good sound system.

specs i require , high memory 8gb or more is better, HDD 1 tb and i don't mind radeon if it's better than nvidia performance. tq
*
Only go prebuilt OEM PC when your budget is low, this 2.2k build is a pure rip off with i5 and a non useful GT730, even the iGPU is better than this dedicated GPU, I don't see the point to slot in GT730 in this build TBH unless you want Nvidia's CUDA technology for your operation.

What games and settings you are looking to run? Is video editing the main task for the rig? How you define good sound system? Are you an audiophile? If yes then you need a high end sound card which can cost nearly 1k FYI.

QUOTE(missysleepy @ May 2 2016, 06:22 PM)
thanks terence, I'm really a noob in this computer hardware.
sometimes, i may get over too excited with latest technology that i have forgotten that it may be too much for my needs.
when i saw Dell giving out Free  speaker , i thought it's a good bargained but then they have a better multimedia speaker that cost more than RM450.

Im not really a gamer but maybe i like to play some games such as Splinter Cell, GTA etc.
im not a good video editing too but i just want to do some attachment of videos and photos for you tube . I think for audio, it's just good enough to play some radio music online , don't need to have 5.1 dolby. i already have the system at home. At least audio clarity will do.

Should i be investing in Windows 10 or 8?

My budget for this rig is at least RM 2K with keyboard, mouse, speaker , windows, graphic card, 8mb memory or 16?, 1TB and wifi ..
I don't need the monitor. tq
*
I would recommend Windows 10 over 7/8.1 anytime, it is great and I have zero complaint on it since the first day I use it.

So your budget is at least 2k? Any maximum limit?

Intel Core i5 6402P - RM 681
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 403
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 133
Zotac GTX750Ti 2GB GDDR5 Single Fan - RM 489
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
TP-LINK TL-WN881ND PCIe WiFi - RM 65
Tecware Alpha - RM 199
Logitech MK200 Wired Combo - RM 63
Edifier R12U - RM 56

Total: RM 2492 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

If you want to run those games listed at higher graphics settings, please consider upgrading to at least GTX960/R9 380.

If I recall correctly, ETech will install Windows 10 for you, some of the forumers here commented they are giving the key for free, it might be too good to be true, you can ask them directly via their FB page/lelong account etc.

Hi sifus,

I'm planning to wait until Pascal/Polaris before deciding on the GPU for my rig and just wondering if the other parts below (obtained from prev posts) is good enough for future upgrades? Should I get a Z170 mobo?

My budget is around 2.5k without the GPU. Not sure if i NEED a SSD but if I do will probably get it along with the GPU. Also another question is, do you think I should get these parts now or should I wait altogether with the GPU?

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 804
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 403
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 133
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Tecware Alpha - RM 189
BenQ GW2270 - RM 429

Thanks!
*
You don't need Z170 mobo if you are going for overclocking build/SLI/CF.

Kaby Lake (7th gen) Intel CPU and AMD Zen CPU are coming soon, who knows maybe by the time Pascal/Polaris arrives in Malaysia, the new CPU is also here, so if you can wait then just wait, if you need a PC now then go ahead and buy the rest of the parts first.

hi  terence,

if i wants to watch movies or even work on my tv screen, what do i need to have, hdmi output ? and how much if i change toGTX 960/R9 380?

tq.
*
It depends on your TV display input port, if it is HDMI then you nee HDMI cable to connect the GPU with your TV.

A minimum top up of nearly RM 400 is needed for GTX960/R9 380.
