thanks bro!

other than cost, is there any particular reason why you recommend Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4)? if i opt for other non z series mobo i.e. B150 mortar, will there be any noticeable performance increase for gaming??

Recommended H110 mobo since it is more friendly toward your budget.

Changing mobo will not increase gaming performance, you are spending more due to different chipset and different features, not spending more to "buy" performance.

Hi all sifus,

Right now I am using an ATX system with the following Motherboard, CPU & GC :

Motherboard : Asus M5A99X EVO
CPU : AMD FX-6300
GC : Sapphire HD 7870 XT
RAM : Kingston DDR3 4GB x2
Casing : CM Storm Scout II

I am planning to change my system to Micro ATX because I realize I don't need an ATX size system (and because I fell in love with the compact Bitfenix Prodigy M Casing).

I believe I only need to change my Mobo, CPU, RAM & Casing to fit my current hardwares into a Micro ATX casing (which I prefer to be Bitfenix Prodigy M)

Please suggest me new Mobo, CPU & RAM based on following :

[B][Budget] : 1500 (Too much, or too cheap?)

[Purpose] : Dota 2 full graphics & day to day usage.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] :
1. 550W Semi Modular NAXN brand PSU
2. Sapphire HD 7870 XT
3. Samsung 850 Evo 120GB SSD
4. 2x 1TB Green WD HDD
5. Mouse & Keyboard
6. Monitor

[Monitor resolution] : No idea, doesn't really matter to be honest. Probably 1080p.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] : Dota2, Microsoft Office.

[Personal preferences] :
1. Bitfenix Prodigy M Casing
2. Micro ATX system
3. Skylake system with Z series motherboard

You might as well top up RM 20 for 2666MHz RAM then since you are choosing Z170 even though the performance gain is small.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 775
ASRock Z170M Pro 4 - RM 443
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 162
Bitfenix Prodigy M - RM 369

Total: RM 1749 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

"Slightly" over budget, you can downgrade to i3 6100 (RM 796) or change mobo to non-Z170 (cheaper, recommended since getting a Z170 with non-K CPU and value RAM do not really make any sense laugh.gif ).

Hi! Thanks for the reply.

I had a discussion with my friend and he suggested to take Z series since it is more durable.

How true is this?

If for a non-Z motherboard, which would you suggest for gaming purpose?

Thanks!

You might ask your friend how durable is Z170 then whistling.gif

If you want to stay within budget, you need to go lowest end H110 mobo, if can accept overbudget, then stick with the current Z170 or B150 (slightly cheaper).

Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289

Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 403

MSI B150M Bazooka (D4) - RM 409

just curious.
how much is the differences in term of gaming performance between skylake w/ ddr4 & skylake w/ ddrL3 ?

Not much, DDR4 is few frame rates ahead only, but considering the price of DDR3 and DDR4, DDR4 is more worth to invest.

I doubt anyone will feel the difference for gaming.

One thing to note is that DDR4 - 2133Mhz vs 3000Mhz, there is a difference in processing speed.

I've benchmarked some Skylake processor and noticed that it processes faster when the RAM is set to higher speed, and it's quite a lot of difference when you are doing stuff like rendering videos.
