R401 change to s2.1m is a good move....
I also thinking of changing my speakers but I must upgrade my soundcard 1st...Archaven, do you like the treble for R401?
*
xterminator, as mentioned earlier i've owned a R401 before. Don't really like the thin and fragile cable as well as the bass is not good enough for me sweat.gif

anyone has any experience between S2.1D and S2.1M? which one is better? the sub of S2.1D is quite huge!. in terms of bass, treble and clarity which is better? Thanks notworthy.gif

Care to give more elaboration? smile.gif. Here's a comparison i made between S2.1D and S2.1M:-

1. S2.1D has 3" midrange driver and 0.75 inch dome tweeter while S2.1M has 2.5" midrange and 1" tweeter. Is there a huge difference with 0.5" midrange?
2. The satellites of S2.1D are with MDF wood enclosure while S2.1M is plastic if not mistaken.
3. The RMS of S2.1D satellites are 20W each while S2.1M are just 18W each. Again, is there a huge difference in 2W for the satellites?
4. S2.1D has built-in 96KHz/24BIT audio decoder while there are no review that mentioned of any built-in decoder for S2.1M.

Really hope some audiophile geeks could share their wisdom for this comparison smile.gif. notworthy.gif

my bet is,
S2.1M will win in term of bass
S2.1D wil win in terms of spec and clarity.

overall, Mr Edifier said S2.1M slightly better (previous posts)
but since audio is very subjective, we don't know yet...

you can mod the sub by stuff it with a fluffy material like polyfil or stiffen the paper cone like i did to my e3100...

S2.1D bass is overwhel sometime, muffle the clarity
S2.1M bring the soundstage wider, i can say the balance is much better than S2.1D
n satelite of S2.1M is not plastic la, tat is "piano finishing" those piano surface while underneath is wood wat
S2.1M bring warmer sound compare with S2.1D, i kinda like it
if got chance u can try AB test it
S2.1D is talking bout power, while S2.1M is more towards to balance n smooth

The size of midrange sometimes not important like AegoM small can do better....S2.1M is not plastic enclosure
is MDF wood enclosure
A 2w difference maybe cant do any bad effect...is all about sq and quality....
Compare to this two I maybe can't answer which is the best because I didnt audition S2.1D yet....
I think S2.1D should be better than S2.1m rclxub.gif

i tried dy la
for me
to tell the truth, S2.1D really on power side only, mean it can loud with some detail remain
but S 2.1M focus on balance, in the other way can say they focus more on music detail n smoothness
u feel comfortable when listen S2.1M, n u can feel the depth of music compare with S2.1D
this is how i feel with it la
if my memory serve me well wat i heard S2.1D last time (use to play with it everyday when working ALL IT tongue.gif )

Thanks all for provide their valuable feedback. It seems that it all bends down to preference. Some say S2.1M offers more punch for bass while maintaining music clarity compared to S2.1D where the bass is shallow. I auditioned it myself on S2.1D and i'm very much agreed that the bass for S2.1D is quite "shy" and i feel all that shines for S2.1D is the satellites.

Was wondering myself if S2.1M satellites would be comparable to the one of S2.1D sweat.gif. Really quite like S2.1D myself just that the bass has not enough punch for me which is kind of a let down to me.

Least but not last, does anyone knows if S2.1M has built-in 96KHz/24BIT audio decoder? I read all reviews i could get about S2.1M but none mentioned any built-in decoder whatsoever. Hope someone could share some light if this built-in audio decoder offers much better sound quality?

PS. Sorry for being a noob. What is SQ?

Thanks.

As much as I like ACS48, I also think MX5021 beat it too. It sounds very sweet...

the built-in decoder is not important actually especially if you got a great sound card already.i think the decoder in S2.1D is a bit better than those found in the integrated sound-card (according to my memory).the only advantage of built in decoder is that there is no singal loss during the travel from PC to speaker which is just a little plus point IMHO.a better PCI or external sound card is the way to go.
