QUOTE(BingYao @ May 4 2010, 01:25 AM) There are pros and cons .. but in Malaysia, the only thing that separate the A & B classes is CW .. not so for the rest of the world .. where those with higher licenses need to sit for more technical exams .. |

Errr the standard for B license have already been lowered badly by "pre amateur radio clubs" hehehe
Try listening to HF amateur radio operator world wide and compare to our local operator you would probably know the answer. So my personal contention would be to open up the license and when operators goes international, they will bring the standard back to local VHF? Understanding CW would be an advantage but I would say not compulsory. Most that passed the CW exam would totally forget how to listen and key CW right after. Its just to pass the exam. Malaysian old hams are objecting to removal of CW cos its an exclusive club and pride of ownership where else rest of the world have already lifted this for all hams to communicate thru voice. MCMC did proposed to lift the CW test and it was approved then the intervention by a group of old ham got it stuck. http://www.uniarm.org/uniarmcms/index.php/mcmc-guidelines Although its good to understand CW unfortunately for me, as I say I am tone deaf. I cant differentiate dit from dah even at 10wpm hehehe. For now I just can listen to HF and hope one day it will be opened up or I be silent key which ever comes first. "exclusive club" .. and this old » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « who thought that they know everything and the younger ones need to learn from them, not from the "pre-amateur" club .. hehe..This post has been edited by wiraone: May 4 2010, 01:17 PM |

Hahaha.. I'm not with MCMC .. so, couldn't do much .. btw, not that many are really interested on going below 2m.. the few 9Ms that I've met said that they're getting the 9M because of the sake of having a 9M callsign ..
One thing .. abolishing CW doesn't mean the 9W can go up to 9M automatically .. they still need to sit for a technical exam .. just like what they've done in other countries.. |
