I am not too sure too, the tweety bird says "commerical clubs" I would take that as club registration instead of company. That is my understanding and move them to UHF. I am keeping an eye for MCMC announcement too but so far it have not been updated.

That would probably motivate everyone to move to ham band. The evolution of 99% of the ham operators are

1. FRS
2. Lanun
3. Commerical club
4. Ham B license

5. 10% goes to full A license

Most just got bored with it and continue with MSN cos easier to pick up gals. Everyone was a lanun before. What I most dislike are self proclaimed ham radio police who scan the frequencies and start issuing threatening TX followed by their high and mighty call sign doh.gif

Opps there are some in this forum too hehehehe

Visit the following websites:

http://www.marts.org.my
http://www.mares.org.my
http://www.astra.org.my

And get some information there. Basically what you need to do is to sit for an exam, usually held bi-annually in June & December. Announcement usually out two months before the exam and announced at http://skmm.gov.my website. Usually, a month before the exam, many local radio clubs & radio NGOs will conduct classes. I'll surely advice you to attend these classes to get a better picture of ham radio.. tho' with just reading the materials found on the Internet could pass you.

Need more info, just drop by this thread ... many of us are willing to share this hobby...

it depends on how you bring it in??

if you are going to singapore yourself or someone is going there than i don't think it won't be a prob.....i heard from a friend that it is how you walk through customs, he say don't find the young or lady customs officer , find the more elderly man officer than you may walk through without any problem...

but from the recent purchase that i made on my ft897 from kedai scs, i found out that the prices doesn't differ much from around here, unless you are going there for a trip.

For that price, you could have get a better mobile rig instead. Any reason why you need to spend so much for a handy? .. just wondering ...

Agreed .. the price different sometime does not warrant a trip down .. unless if you're going there for some other reason/businesses .. Most of them are charging around RM100-200 extra from the Singapore prices.. If you're going by car, drive as normal through the customs and 99% you won't get stopped unless as said previously in the thread, you look so suspicious smile.gif

Kaikon, so crazy about HT ah? wink.gif .. I've never carry my handy with me .. I don't want to look like those maintenance workers while going shopping .. just need to use the handy once in a while going trekking .. so for now .. it becomes my main APRS radio connected to TinyTrak4 and acts as a fill-in digipeater & igate..

haha nah you can hardly find a HT on me. The moral of the story is "Do not go into a radio shop when one is free" Impulse buying is bad. The newer Yaesu products are firmware lock instead of the normal cleaver the solder.
