There's 31k of my funds placed in HSBC FD @ 3.15%, which is pledged for a HSBC advance credit card. Should I touch that FD,  the 13k points accumulated will be gone for good

Go to the bank branch withdraw the hard cash out, then transfer to another bank, simple as that
I've benn doing this for the past few years, each time hand carry rm50000, with all rm50 notes

HLB current offer is 6 mth 4.25%. You mean they refuse to give 4.3% for 6 mths or u are asking >4.3% for 6 mths ?

For shorter terms it is more difficult to get higher rates as normal short term FD rates are lower. But this year Jan. HL was offering 6 mths 4.5% !!

aromachong, how is your luck with the 7 digits fund with Maybank ? My opinion is tough as well. Among major banks, CIMB may be able to accomodate, but their promo now 12 mth 4.1% only, so for 6 mth, hard for you to get to 4.3% or higher. BR still better option but for 6 mth, may have problem also. 

Good rate !    I have been putting in UOB for 12 mth 4.3% for last 2 weeks. 

I know, u are preparing for the big move, for that special big day !! For 6 months, 4.3% is rather good (Though HL has 3 mth 4.3% last month for >100k, now no more).

no offence but why do you prefer FD over property/other investments since you have 7 figure savings?

If that's the case, what about if someone has 20M, walks into the bank, go directly to the branch manager, and demand to nego for 1-3m breaks? hahahah

Being able to get nego from major bank is an accomplishment.  But HL and CIMB difficult to get higher rate from them. I know CIMB can give extra 0.05% (maybe others have been getting higher, not sure). Then your HL's 6 mth getting also extra 0.05%. Even longer term, the major bank may not give higher than their promo rate. Based on my experience only.  Remember HL has the 3 mth 4.3% for >100k just ended in April.

BR is more flexible, the longer the term, the higher add'l % one can get. The shorter the term, the more difficult to nego with banks. Others may share their experience, please.
