I currently have an Onkyo TX-NR609 a/v receiver for close to 5 years and it's been faithful all these years..recently I have issues on sound going off/coming back on, only in movies encoded in dolby true-HD, the other encodings (DTS HDMA etc) are okay..I am not sure if I would want to get it repaired, so I need opinions whether it will be fruitful to upgrade it instead...I am looking at the Denon x2400h, and I am wondering if there is a noticeable difference if I would get it..any other recommendations that doesn't cost past RM3.5k? Or should I get the 609 repaired instead?

I have a 706, even older.

If u r using an older media box player, that will be the case.

Get a new player that can handle all the pass thrus, will be fine.

In addition, ddatmos will be downgraded to ddtruehd, dtsx will be downgrade to dtshdma.

It could be the media player..I am using a WD TV Live player..any recommended media player box? No need to stream any movies, just need to output trueHD/HDMA since I will use back the old amp...

Sounds like a software issue. Are you sure its the receiver and not the media player/source?
*
I will be testing it today with another different source..might be that instead

i am quite sure it is your player... wdtv... the firmware and codecs are obsolete for the newest files/formats.
same thing for many ac ryan pohd users too. reliable boxes but just out of date...

go back 6-7 years ago, these media box players got wiped out from the market as android boxes came in.
these boxes come in all kinds - some can do ddatmos/dtsx, some can't even do dts/dd.
so, check carefully.

prices... <rm500, i doubt u can find one that will satisfy yr audio requirements.
there are other boxes, players rm1-2k, 3k...?

i use this, rm600:

Thanks for your update, I was thinking of replacing the wdtv but reluctant to as it's been performing good so far..I am more inclined maybe towards the HiMedia Q5 Pro, seems to be pretty well specced for the price..the Q10 pro that you use seems to only have added internal HDD support and the touch screen, which I won't use..let me confirm tonight when i try another source to see if the issue persists, if not, there goes my wdtv to be recycled or something

Is there a wireless rear speaker in the market?

My current setup is Receiver, 4speaker and woofer. But the rear speaker is run on wire which troublesome on the floor.

I which to setup the rear speaker on the ceiling. But running the wire will be troublesome. Wireless rear speaker will be good idea.

And pros about it ?

if u have little use for the android functions and no need for HDD slot, q5pro will be the right choice.

i use android apps quite a bit, need the bigger 16gb rather than 8gb.

and i have an old hdd from acryan, just slot it in q10pro, nice!

i had 2 acryan, 6-7 years old. stopped using them a year ago - primarily due to inability to handle ddtruehd, 4k, 10bit, hevc.

recently sold both of them, decent 2nd hand prices! biggrin.gif

Nice! I actually have a Mibox 3 pro to handle all the android functions, so this new box will just have to decode those files i mentioned earlier..I wonder if I could get any good 2nd hand value with my WDTV Live though..LOL

More trouble than it's worth. Does your receiver have pre-outs? You need to at least have preout for the surround channels to connect to a transmitter and that transmitter must be able to have the same frequency transmission to the wireless speakers.

There's two potential shop. Style Laser and Desa Home Theater. For online there's Mudah, 11th street & Lazada (I think). Actually are shop owners genuinely selling new item or repacking back wan? Last time I went to DHT, they told me to give advance and then will send the goods the next 1 or 3 days. I'm having trust issue here.....  unsure.gif

Personally, I would prefer to buy at the shop for av gears whenever possible and so that you can actually check the condition of it before buying. So, you have an issue with Desa HT previously?

I would go for RXV-681 if you have decided for yammy...

Does it come in a set the transmitter and the receiver and the speaker?

Thought the setup is use the receiver rear speaker out and connect to the transmitter.

That means that they have no stock at their place at that time. Can also buy from 11street. They had the cheapest price when I last checked but not by much. Repacking means what? Repack display set? If they do that usually it will be quite obvious coz their display set is not in perfect condition due to auditions etc. From my experience they usually will tell you if they are gonna give you the display set.

No, you cannot connect your rear channels binding posts to anything else other than the speaker because that signal has already been amplified by the receiver it self. Sending it to a transmitter which doesn't have a high impedance will cause damage as the transmitter is not receiving a pre-amped signal.

If your receiver has pre-amp outs, then yes - it is possible. Just like how you could get a wireless transmitter for a subwoofer, it can work for individual speaker channels too.

Thanks.

I guess it will be difficult to do.
