how are the share prices affected by the bonus issue?

I feel like bonus issue and share split are more or less the same. sad.gif

for example, TopGlov had bonus issue last year.

So my question is, does bonus issue give the same benefit as dividend?

Yes the same effect.. Total shareholder equity remains the same.

But funny thing after bonus issue, often price still go up with no reason, I think coz ppl remember the old price n think now it has become cheaper..

Want to ask sifus here regarding entitlement for stock's dividend.
Recently I bought Gamuda stock on 16/07/2019 and sell it off on 17/07/2019.
The EX Date for Gamuda is on the 18/07/2019. Do I still entitle for the dividend?

Today is 19/07/2019 and I haven't received any messages regarding whether I'm entitled?

Wanna ask about air asia's special dividend of 90 cents. Share price now is RM2.86. Means if I have one lot, I invest RM286 and I get RM90 as special dividend? Got such good thing?

After dividend ex date. Your share price will drop by the amount of the dividend.
So essentially you'll be paying yourself the dividend minus the brokerage and share purchase fees.
So not worth it to buy the shares after the dividend has been declared.
If you like the Counter, buy it after the dividend ex date.

The "adjustment" is due to people selling? Or some other way?

the adjustment is automatic i presume. because the share price the trading day after the dividend is announced automatically goes up by the amount of the dividend.

Adjustment is done by BSKL.. This is like investor protection to make sure controlling shareholders don't try to cheat the public by paying themselves huge dividends, leaving the company 0 but holding up the share price.

The adjustment is correct from the accounting POV.

Let's say a company's share price closes at RM5 just a day before the ex-dividend date. It's net assets is RM4 pers share. Goodwill is then RM1 per share (RM5-4).

If this company suddenly declare a RM0.50 dividend, it has to pay out CASH RM0.50 per share.
Therefore, on ex-dividend date, it is deemed that the company paid out immediately to the shareholders.
Hence, the new opening price adjusts to RM5.00-RM0.50 = RM4.50

Obvious reason is that AirAsia has money but no new projects that require that much money to fund.

Or it could mean that potential projects now generate a return lower than the cost of equity. So, better return back to shareholders than to invest in such projects.
