Format to burn in VCD is MPEG1 (or MPEG only).

Some word cannot be seen ? If your burn AVI movies as "Data", no problem provided you have DirectVobSub filter installed (to display subtitle).

If you burn using Nero, AVI is automatically encoded into VCD compliant.

Above all that, I have no idea what causing "some word cannot be seen".

I would recommend SUPER for mobile handheld playback. SUPER provide pre-configured settings for mobile device including pda. It's free for download.

Make sure you pre-define your save location first. Right click anywhere at the main window for the menu.

Im sorry if i'm taking the easy way out but this thread is certainly too long so i guess i'd just take the short cut icon_question.gif

I've got 2 .avi files (each of 400mb in size) that i'd love to burn them into a dvd so i can watch it directly from the dvd player on tv.

1) What should i do? Please advice on what software should i use if i need to do any conversion and any particular software to do the burning. Thanks again.

2) Oh btw, if there is a need of conversion, how much bigger would each of the previously - .avi file averagely turns out to be?

My priority is to maintain the high quality picture & sound as it is right now as the .avi file is.

3) On the other hand, does conversion (if needed) take alot of processing speed?

Thanks everyone!! notworthy.gif

  1. Convert that AVI into MPEG 2 (DVD compliant). Software can do that job is TMPGEnc (MPEG 2 trial limitation), Cinema Craft Encoder (trialware), QuEnc (freeware & use AviSynth), HC Encoder (freeware, use Avisynth), FreeEnc (freeware, use Avisynth), gui4ffmpeg (command line with GUI). TMPGEnc & CCE is most widely used due to speed & quality balance.
Those output could be system (*.MPEG) or elementery (*.MPV) stream. You can import into DVD mastering like DVD Lab, Nero Vison (to create menu, adding chapter). Use Nero to burn (DVD Lab Pro has build-in dvd burning capabilities).
  2. The final size will depend on this bitrate calculation : video bitrate + audio bitrate= final bitrate. You can use bitrate calculator like this.
Higher bitrate translated into higher quality.
  3. Sure, lot of processing power needed for conversion. Atleast 2 hours needed in order to convert 30 minutes AVI into MPEG 2.
