QUOTE(fJok3R @ Jul 9 2011, 10:22 AM) have done that.but it seems that its still a hit or miss thing, from the backtrack forums, the best way suggested was to boot a live cd/usb and test it out. Sadly i tried that and alot of promoters very dulan about it. |

Hey guys , I have been asking for info on Compaq Presario CQ40 drivers on Ubuntu for quite some times in Ubuntu forum but no one replied. The wifi driver provided not that good since it only allows me to connect to wifi but aircrack-ng all not support the system shown can't allocated wifi driver. Any method to get appropriate drivers for my lappy ? and I only got gpu and wifi drivers the remanining sounds/proc drivers all don have.

QUOTE(scorps @ Nov 12 2011, 06:50 PM) Best option is to build up from a minimal one. Either Debian, GRML, Arch, Crux is a good bet. You'll need to do your homework to know what kind of hardware you have (especially wireless chipset) and it'll take some time. If you do it properly and install a lightweight WM, it'll fly. Learn to compile your own kernel and do some undervolting with phc to maximize battery life and lower temperatures on your netbook.Gentoo and sorcerer work great too, but require even more time. If you want something out of the box with all the Gnome bling-bling widgets and effects, try Fuduntu : http://www.fuduntu.org/ Other options, Zenix http://zenix-os.net/index.html CrunchBang http://crunchbanglinux.org/ Aptosid (Xfce version) http://aptosid.com/ If you want something ultra-light and small, but without as many apps as the big distros, you can also look at Slitaz: http://www.slitaz.org/en/ |

I have HCL laptop with Core 2 Duo Processor and I am using Ubuntu. I am not having any problem for the last six months. Previously Windows Vista was installed on my laptop but I would love to use Linux so I tried Ubuntu and it works great.

It's really all about personal preference. What suits one person may not suit another. Don't be afraid to experiment.
