will the latest Ubuntu be fine on my eeePC 900 on the 4GB SSD?
considering to either run it fully on the eeePC or maybe look at running it from a 4GB SD card (Class 6).

Hi, I'm new to linux.
I just installed Ubuntu 8.1 for my Compaq.
Anyway, is there any compatible issue to install Open Suse for Compaq? I tried installing, and after Welcome screen and I chose installation, display goes blank/dark.
Ubuntu working just fine.

hi, if you want to run linux operating system, you can select your choice with:
1. running dual operating system (linux + windows)
2. running single operating system (linux)
Please bear in mind, although linux is very powerful, most software available in the market associates most with microsoft, unless you have two laptops, you can choose to install single operating system.
i suggest you to install ubuntu 9.04 and above. Ubuntu is the most easy graphical user interface (gui). you can get open office as replacement for microsoft office. but, my experience with open office always made me miserable, all settings that i'd done in microsoft word need to be re-edit in open office.

Try updating your GC driver. My desktop wasn't showing the proper resolutoin too, not until I updated my GC. I think GC update for Ubuntu is always very easy unless if you're using other distro.

QUOTE Hey, I am going to get a laptop which can support both windows and Linux, do u have any suggestion? is tat all laptop can support it? I also not sure which Linux OS i would use.. My suggestion, get yourself a latest livecd/liveusb with a latest kernel. Latest kernel is important because all the latest modules(driver) is there. Then test booting that livecd/usb before you buy. If the tokay does not allow you test before you buy... walk away..go to other shop that allow you to do that. Do some checking on hardware. If everything works ... buy that laptop. Karmic Koala is an update release of Ubuntu, which happens twice a year.
Kernel is the core of the OS, managing resource and device interaction. Latest kernel would probably has a more updated version of the device drivers, therefore better support for newer hardware.

I am not saying one is better than the other (*coughFedorarockscough* !!!), just saying you should do some more research yourself first... as long as you use the latest kernel, you should have no problems with hardware either... but saying that, it would be a good idea if you are a beginner to stay away from the more uh... exotic flavours, since support/forums won't be as extensive as with a more established flavour e.g. Fedora, Suse and uh... Ubuntu ...have fun with the penguin mate!
