QUOTE(katrina8080 @ Apr 27 2021, 03:30 AM) Is it hard to take photo at Semenyih Dam? From google map, it seems like a road side. There is a small trail you can walk in and get near to the water and get this: Milkyway by Rico Lee (asdgraphy / momento.R), on Flickr Sometimes fishers will camp there. Alternatively at roadside here maybe able to get milkyway as well, but we opted not to because power cable and pole is just above us, may not suitable for wide angle and pointing upwards. QUOTE(lai_dm @ Jun 20 2021, 10:08 PM) where is it bro ??? nice le Thanks. It was in KK, Sabah. Few nights ago before we got the rains. For the last 2 days been raining quite a bit, so won't be able to see now. Some more we're all under MCO, so I didn't travel far, it was just walking distance from my resident into some dark alley. Any advice on dealing with cloudy weather?
Or how to "predict" clear night, perhaps?

"Any advice on dealing with cloudy weather?" Look at the sky & say "why, god? why?"
"Or how to "predict" clear night, perhaps?" The best you can do is look at weather forecast. Clouds not just move but can form out of thin air as well.

"Or how to "predict" clear night, perhaps?"The best you can do is look at weather forecast. Clouds not just move but can form out of thin air as well. That's why it sucks to be in the equator. In the more temperate region, especially in higher latitude, there tends to be clear sky due to stronger wind in higher altitude. Particularly in winter, when the night is long and the air cold and dry. If it's not for the photos in this thread, I'd be reluctant to believe that astrophotography is even feasible or practical in Malaysia.

thanks for the info. I am just venturing into Astrophotography, but don't have a suitable 2.8 lens for night shot.

QUOTE(HolyValkyrie @ Sep 14 2021, 05:43 AM) Complete noob here. Any entry camera recommendation plus useful accessories? Also tripod and star tracker are the same thing (mounting)? Entry camera is good enough. More importantly is the lens. And most important is your budget, how much u willing to spend. Tripod is tripod, star tracker is star tracker. you can start with just a camera + a lens first. Then work your way from there. Star tracker is quite a heavy investment considering the fact that it can only do one job. The lens and camera also can use for shooting other subjects other than milkway. Camera: Sony a6000/a6100 Lens: Samyang 12mm F2 MF version/Laowa 9mm f2.8/Samyang 12mm F2 AF version Camera: Fujifilm XT20/XT30 Lens:Samyang 12mm F2 Also, you need a good raw editing software like Adobe Lightroom or capture one pro. Yeah, any camera can, even the entry level one. The most important is the lens. You want wide lens.

Tried to shoot milkyway last weekend, but only able to get lighthouse pics and some stars, the core being obscured by the cloud when it was just above the lighthouse. Lighthouse by Rico Lee (asdgraphy / momento.R), on Flickr Lighthouse by Rico Lee (asdgraphy / momento.R), on Flickr
