Here you go...
i find that their price is better and is more convenient then to buy from Taobao.
*
You are right, it is cheaper than their flagship store on Tmall. Good finding.

Maybe I should sell my Porlex and get one of those Chinese hand grinder instead.

QUOTE(built @ Dec 14 2017, 12:21 PM)
just received my 2 cup bialetti brikka.
after cleaning and seasoning (brew twice), i made a pot of
medium roasted costa rica, med fine ground. was not foamy
(couldn't really call it crema) as seen on youtube. not impressed
and it tasted sour. maybe because it was meant for filter. better
with milk. will try again with other beans roasted slightly bolder.
would appreciate any other tips for improvement.

anybody else uses a bialetti? model, experience and  result?
*
For me the most frustrating about using Bialetti Brikka is that it always got some leaks through the gasket seal.
Already replaced them once, worked fine for a while, then it happened again.

To get good crema, you need to do a lot of experiment/trial and error.

I should have bought a normal Moka pot instead.

Bought some fresh light roasted columbian supremo. Taste is on the sour side. Wanna ask sour coffee is better with milk or without?

And the barista suggest me to wait 2 weeks before consuming the coffee. Why? The taste will be better with age? hmm.gif
*
How do you brew your coffee?

Perhaps you can try adjust your extraction to get a more balance flavored coffee.

https://baristahustle.com/blogs/barista-hus...-coffee-compass

Anyway, lighter roast coffee are indeed a bit more on acidic side. But it depends on what type of beans as well.

but, don't take my word as i'm no coffee snob. my latter art skill sucks. my palate is rubbish.

been using barista express for my daily caffeine dose for the past 3 years. all i want is CHEAPER cup daily. i've change from buying gourmet coffee to buying in kilos from local commercial roaster. heck, i even went to the extent substituting my fresh milk to the UHT milk.

economy is bad  biggrin.gif

if you have high expectation for coffee, then you have to invest a lot of money on the apparatus and bean biggrin.gif
*
Totally can relate to that.

All I wanted is to drink good coffee with reasonable cost.

Instead of buying kilos of coffee, I resorted to roasting coffee using a popcorn maker.(since green beans are cheaper).
And I too have a terrible palate despite being a coffee lover sweat.gif

Don't want to be spending too much on this hobby, which is why I am staying away from espresso's based coffee(since their equipment are pricey) and sticking with manual coffee brewing.

Has any1 buy product from this site before? How is the quality?

Thought of buying the aeropress filter and duo coffee steeper. Quite pricey.. not sure worth it or not.
*
I am interested in the Prismo But it can't do Espresso since it cannot generate enough pressure (9bar I think?)

There was a group buy in FB group for the Prismo (for Aeropress), but I did not manage to buy one.

If you planning to buy one, let me know, perhaps we can combine the shipping cost(if its reasonable enough)

Hello,

Does anyone had any experience with cheap drip scale before? Am trying to purchase one and I have few in mind:

1. Hario
2. Tiamo
3. Cheap china model

Am not sure how accurate is the cheap one compare to Hario at least.

Thank you.
*
I am currently using the Tiamo scale.
It comes with built in timer and thermometer probe.

It is quite accurate as I had tested it with my Logitech mouse weights. 4.5g each, about +- 0.1 gram deviation.
But built quality is so so only.

Hi coffee enthusiasts!

Would like to share a new discovery: the Cafflano Kompresso.

[attachmentid=9475575]

Got this while I was sending my car for repairs at Bandar Mahkota Cheras,
had a coffee fix at Stage Cafe. They had just brought it in and hadn't even created the entry in their inventory system yet!

From the product's website, the Kompresso is "the world's most compact and the lightest portable authentic espresso maker that uses a hydraulic system complied [sic] with Pascal's Principle to boost the extraction force of espresso."

It won SCA World of Coffee 2017's Best New Consumer Equipment, Non-Electrical award, so that got me interested.

It purportedly uses a much smaller plunger and a double-handed squeezing motion to generate a full, consistent 9 bar of pressure. Working backwards, a fellow forummer and I worked out that it would require 28kg of pressure from each hand to make 9 bar....high, but achievable, it seems.

I've been using it for the past few weeks to pull maybe 30 shots. 13gm in, about 27 ml out. Grind approximately espresso. Time is about 20 sec, so a bit fast.

Verdict? I'm crazy about it! Definitely pressure-extracted coffee, compared to any other non-espresso method I've experienced so far. Super portable, very easy to clean.

Main issues:
- design and material makes it very difficult to keep the usual high water temperatures that espresso demands. Even boiling water poured immediately cools down to 88c nearly instantly, and the fact that the water sits directly on the shower screen over the puck makes it impossible to preheat with a flush.

- all plastic design makes longevity questionable.
*
Definitely considering this instead of getting a machine.

hello all, i am using normal coffee machine (to brew grounded coffee)
I have tested a few brand, all turn out abit acid taste

any good grounded coffee? I like the taste bitter like starbuck brew coffee tongue.gif
*
Try Ikea coffee beans.

If you like the bitter one, go for their dark roasts one.
Should be less than RM20 per bag of 250g if im not mistaken.

We try...as much as we can haha
But you're right, a few % off here and there is not going to skew your brew by alot

For me, daily pick me up in the office, I don't really measure things out. Just go with the usual and use visual inspections to "agak-agak"
With time, then yes, max geeking out!  icon_idea.gif
*
What are using you to brew coffee at office?

Currently I am using V60 with cheapo scale. Pun already seems super geek to others biggrin.gif
Plus with the hand grinding the beans.

ikea coffee is 250g a pack. cant remember the price.
you can also consider mister coffee. their espresso blend
starts from about RM30 for 500g. plus they also have many
other type of coffee. can call them for recommendation.
*
yeah Mr Coffee would be a good idea since they can ship to you.

The Ikea coffee costs Rm27.50 for 500g ground coffee, but hate going there since its pretty crowded.
Considering time+parking+petrol costs, Mr Coffee would be a better idea IMO. If you buy > RM60 can get free shipping.

I know Cream/The Roast Things in PJ is selling this:
https://www.facebook.com/theroastthings.my/...?type=3&theater

If I'm not mistaken, RM 490. Not sure how good it is for espresso. From Taiwan apparently.

From this link : https://shopee.tw/-%E9%86%87%E9%AE%AE%E5%B0...07904.214456825

The ceramic burr design looks like the standard design found in lot of hand grinder such as Porlex/ Generic manual hand grinder.
Hard to say whether is good or not.

Might as well go for those good quality hand grinder from China.

I myself just purchased one, but still waiting for arrival.

Bought it from Taobao, don't remember exactly how much, I think 100+, btw, I made a mistake, its not Tiamo brand, but Diguo (China).
Tiaomo/Timemore should cost more since the build quality is higher

Hmm. This is a merchant site. Most of the "reviews" are not even about this item, but more about the seller.

Why I'm asking is that I'm a bit skeptical about what this product delivers. Looking at the Aeropress, I don't think it can generate anywhere near the pressure required to equate to an espresso-like drink. In fact, from what I can figure, it is just a metal filter (similar to Able) and a cover to form a jet of coffee, spraying into the cup to generate some bubbles to simulate crema.
*
True.
The maker of Prismo also themselves had mentioned that this is not an Espresso maker, but more like an "espresso style" coffee with Crema.

What I like about it, is that you dont have to do an "inverted" method to brew and no drip seal.
Sometimes I get coffee grounds into the coffee when the paper filter is not aligned properly.

Btw, cheefai7

I bought the same hand grinder that you mentioned before and am very impressed!
the built quality, grind consistencies are on different scale compared to my Porlex.

I've not had the problem of leaking past the filter paper, do you wet the filter before placing it in the basket? Have you tried using a metal filter, I prefer the taste over paper.
*
I normally put in the paper filter in the basket first, after that, pour hot water to rinse it.
Have not tried the stainless steel filter yet.

Not sure if squallx840 is experiencing the same problem, but since I also use the inverted method, periodically the grounds get into the little gap around the edge, where the filter cap has to screw on. Marked in red here......

[attachmentid=9497518]

Even if a small amount gets stuck here, the filter cap cannot be fitted properly. Without fitting properly, either it will leak, or in my case, cannot invert altogether. This is crazy frustrating, as by the time I realise this problem, I would have poured in the hot water and the coffee is already brewing. Every second I take to clean it up means possibly overextraction.
*
Yeah, I encountered this issue too. That is why I stopped using inverted method. Can be quite frustrating when it happens.

also , when you are flipping the aeropress to plunge, the coffee leaks from the side of the basket.

Now what I do is, after putting the grounds and water, I immediately stirs and put in the plunger so that the vacuum will prevent the coffee from dripping.

thumbsup.gif Great, I would says at this price point, its way better than Prolex. If want to nit-pick, there are also some improvement needed to be done on the gen 2 design:

1) Anodized aluminium body color scratch easily and reveled aluminium color.
2) The magnetic top cover was sort of losing its grip after breaking in.
3) Cuts is tend to be in angular shape and slightly less consistence, compare to my electric grinder thus produce different coffee flavours.
4) Produce fines like 5% of coffee weight, as expected for manual grinder.
6) not sure how to detach the whole outer burr for cleaning from the chassis.

Nonetheless, its a good value product.

For leaking Aeropress during inverted brewing method, maybe can try the following:

1) Always pre-wet your filter in the cap and make sure the paper is properly lay and stick on the cap, especially the edge.
2) After locking the cap, press down the Aeropress to expel the air in the tube until some coffee is about to ooze out, then only you plunged.

Keep on brewing babeh! icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Yeah, the magnetic top cover is quite loose and not fitted properly. Something that could be improved.

I think you can try this method i found on youtube to detach the outer burr.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZxacUX59F8

He use rubber bands to increase the grip for the outer burr.
Havent tried it myself.

Btw, any idea how to order the Italmill burr?
I order the standard one, planning to order the Italmill burr for Espresso grinding.
I tried messaging the seller, but I dont think he understand English.
Else have to order another grinder lol.

I'm currently using it.

What are you planning to use it for (Aeropress /French press/ espresso) ?

Its a good multi purpose grinder, but it will struggle a bit grinding harder / light roast beans.
