Hi everyone. I'm interested in the 1zpresso Q but I still can't figure out taobao. How much is the shipping to Malaysia? Thanks in advance.
*
Approximately MYR16 via air shipping which is quite cheap(direct Taobao).
If you are not familiar with Taobao, can try use a 3rd party forwarder such as ezbuy, sgshop, etc, but there is a bit of additional charge from them.

tight budget tho,
else i would choose to become grinding robot with comandante rclxm9.gif
anyway thanks for the reco, will have a look on it.
basically knowing not much bout machine grinder, for wellhomepro zd10, that price is just too attractive to me
*
For 1 - 2 cups per day and at your budget, I would highly recommend a hand grinder.

Check couple of pages back for recommendation by rytopa.

A good quality hand grinder with steel burrs requires much less effort/energy compared to the ceramic burrs hand grinder.

I myself was using Porlex hand grinder and upgraded to Anonymous Hand grinder and was astonished at the quality/effort needed to grind.

Grind quality is a lot better too, its on a whole different league compared to those ceramic burrs hand grinder.

Sounds too good to be true. Any catch?

Good info, but which one of the China grinders come at below RM400 delivered? IIRC, the 1ZPresso is around RM1k? Hoping for your feedback, since it's difficult for me to find stuff on Taobao. Thanks in advance.
*
For Espresso hand grinder, best value for money, I would highly recommend the ACE 48 grinder, it should around MYR 366 before shipping, so around MYR 400 ish with shipping I think.

Its using a 48mm Italmill burrs.

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09...._u=o2khfne1f058

But you had to pre-order (next batch shipment is on 15 July) . I had waited for 3 months for mine to arrive btw.

Check the picture of the grinder in the review instead of the details page since the seller had made a lot of upgrade and improvement.

Great info! Thanks, much appreciated.
ACE48 grinder..ok. I'll take a look. Thanks for the link & your valuable input!

Question: how much different/better would it be using the ACE48 or the 1ZPresso Q compared to the Hario Mini Mill (my hand grinder for now)? Lately I've gravitated towards using the Mini Mill than my electric grinder. Somehow I think it gives me better clarity & flavour.
*
Either 1Zpresso Q or the ACE48 grinder will make your Mini Mill feels like a toy in comparison.

I myself was using Porlex hand grinder previously (which is pretty similar to the Hario hand grinder in terms of grind quality), then moved on to China made hand grinder, and never looked back (Anonymous coffee Hand Grinder, 1Zpresso Z-Pro (48mm burr) and then the ACE48.

Honestly, I dont feel like its worth to spend money on the grinder such as Commandante, Lido etc since the China made hand grinder are just as good but a lot cheaper.

QUOTE(J_Vansen_S @ Jun 25 2019, 02:44 PM)
hi to all, Barista/Roaster/CoffeeGeeks

Need some opinion on a new electric grinder:-
I currently have the Mazzer Super Jolly for my espresso, i am in the  lookout for a relatively good grinder(cafe-ishQuality) for making  pour over.

I had breville smart grinder as my 1st grinder, it sux to the max core, gear  stripped after about 1 yr ++, and a spare one in my office also broke down. If may be a good-ish grinder but quality is terrible &  u cant get individual part replacement for it.

Anyway, also had the Rancillio Rocky; sold it to upgrade to the MAzzer,  so now im looking  for another grinder just for pour over/chemex/syphon

Ive been doing my readups, sayin that hand grinder makes exponentially better pour overs, comparing the electric grinder? So whats the electric version equivalent of the highly recommended commandante & kinu?

ek43 over my  budget, is that what all/most cafe use for  their pour over.
Cafe owner/roaster/barista what do u  use for non-espresso coffee?
*
Kinu is really more suitable for Espresso due to the burr geometry (can grind very fine)

Option 1: Perhaps another Mazzer Super Jolly with SSP brewing burr? tongue.gif

Option 2: Fuji Royale R220 , Kalita Nice Cut G (Ghost teeth burrs). A specialty coffee shop I that visited are using Kalita Nice Cut for their pourover.

Option 3: Budget version:
China made - Fuji Royale R220 clone (check out the link by Rytopa probably few pages earlier)

I also owned a Breville Smart grinder for the past 4 years, running fine so far, perhaps because of my low usage / I dont grind light roast very often.

Doesn't the Mazzer SJ run pretty loud? But I guess if that's ok for you then it's a non-issue  smile.gif

Was going to recommend the Vario as well as an alternative.

You can check out the Niche Zero as well. You should be able to see it during Coffee Fest coming July

Still too expensive for small indie roasters like us to exhibit haha
But one of my barista will be competing in the Malaysian Open Barista Championships (MOBC)
*
Kinda ironic that indie coffee fest is too expensive for small indie roasters...
perhaps its due to the location.

All the best to your barista for the upcoming MOBC!

Yes despite the kg89 being convenient and fast,it still doesn't grind consistent enough for a good espresso.Yesterday I tried to use back the basic ceramic burr grinder that I had been using and to my surprise the grind was far more consistent /finer than the kg89 and the shot didnt came out bitter as it did...maybe the kg89 just a bad grinder/investment...lol.any suggestion for a bang for buck grinder that does the job right? Online searches only show models that  barely seen/sells here locally.

What is your budget for new grinder?

Would highly recommend a premium hand grinder(steel burrs) if you just make 3-4 cups a day.

Else , maybe a secondhand electric grinder.

I think lowkl is letting go his Eureka Mignon. Can contact him if you are interested.

How bout the breville smart grinder pro or non smart ver?
*
I had good experience with Breville Smart Grinder pro, I just dont like the sound it makes when I grind light roasted beans sweat.gif

Eureka Mignon cost slightly more, but the build quality is a lot better. (bigger burrs too)

You can try look around for used Eureka Mignon. Low Kl is selling his brows.gif should cost less than a new Smart Grinder Pro.

For French Press, the grind is coarse... what about the amount of coffee? mine's a bodum french press 4 cups
*
You actually need to grind finer. 1:16 / 1:15 coffee to water ratio.
What kind of french press you have, does not matter at all. They are all the same.

I have the Mr DIY ,Bodum and Ikea french press.

Had the second-hand grinder for about 1 year and was inform that the burrs was change recently.
Grinder Sanremo SRL  Model: SR 70 E, 350W.
*
Agree with dwRK, the burr's edge looks rounded.

SR-70 is using 64mm flat burrs yes?

I wonder if the Superjolly burr can fit to this grinder.
Should be much easier to source since it is quite common grinder.

@lowkl

I understand what you mean. Going for premium brands like Lido or Comandante makes the grinder itself RM 1000. However "budget" or entry level brands like the Hario Slim or even Skerton are not good enough. In an ideal world, I would be using the ROK or the Flair or even the La Marzono paired with a Helios or Aergrind however at the moment I can only afford baby steps. And to cut cost, I plan to do everything manually.

I suppose you are very happy with your 1Zpresso Z Pro, and I hope the quality trickles down to their more budget models.

I just spoke to the 1Zpresso team on their FB and received a very friendly customer service. They recommended me to get the Q series grinder+ the Y3.3, which total would be around RM 500 ish. They said the Q series grinder can grind fine enough for their Y3.3 to make good shots.

After speaking with them I am leaning more towards their suggestion.
*
I have been interested in the 1z Y3 for a long time, but did not get it coz too many brewing apparatus... Interested in hearing your feedback.
The 1z Q should be far better than any Hario / Porlex ceramic burr grinder.

Are you getting their combo package that comes with the carrying case and mini scale?
Seems like a really good deal!

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10....id=560838953981
Should be RMB 100 cheaper if you wait until 12.12.

Hi. I'm thinking to purchase Welhome KD-210s using Tabao. It just that I'm curious price is ¥3069 once arrive?  But payment is ¥3599?

I'm not really good in reading chinese.

user posted image
*
¥3069 should be the 12-12 price.

I honestly think it would be better for you to buy the Wellhome machine from Dankoff instead of Taobao since the price different is not that significant.
Plus the warranty and after sales support would be easier and better too.

Since Dankoff can do repair (with charges), then this should be a good buy then.

But one thing to keep in mind, is that for 12-12 sales, the shipping is going to be rough for obvious reason. If there is some sort of shipping insurance, its a good idea to get it.

Don't do it, it is terrible.

Just get some generic Akira/Feima coffee grinder from Lazada/shopee, should be a lot better.
