Since my AVR is the same for both bitstream sources , it shouldn't be brought in because any post processing,  will be constant for both sources.

Native Netflix app's default player ≠ Third party media player... Anyway, I also meant that performance differs across varied systems. I.e. Upscaling engines & display panels differ...

Has anyone tried Netflix with Apple TV 3?

When the Audio is set to Dolby Digital (DD), there is no sound output.

The sound output is fine when the Audio is set to Auto (Stereo).

Just as I was wondering what devices are available to stream Netflix at high quality (I own a Himedia Q16). I found that PS3 is one of the best device to stream Netflix. I actually have a PS3 collecting dust in my living room. Time restore it to its glory days again!

Netflix.... Wiki... Its been discussed earlier, only Netflix certified devices like your PS3 will be able to stream full HD or UHD (depending on device). The rest including tons of android boxes/TVs/Players out there will only be able to get 480p res max.

Ok, i tested netflix on my ps3 and it was awesome, managed to get 1080p for most shows. Earlier there were complaints that the content is lacking, but when i signed on yesterday, the content was quite plentiful. In fact the content should last me a year of viewing. Jessica Jones, Orange is the new black, Narcos, Daredevil etc.......

After a few days stink with trials & errors, have finally managed to get Netflix to output Dolby Digital 5.1 from Apple TV 3rd Gen to my Denon AVR.

The sound is superb. rclxm9.gif

Connections:
- Apple TV -- HDMI --> Denon AVR
- Denon AVR -- HDMI --> FHD TV

Apple TV Settings:
- Dolby Digital -> ON
- Sound Check -> ON
- Sound Effect -> ON
- Sound Mode -> Auto

Denon AVR Settings:
- Source -> HDMI
- Sound Mode -> Direct (Do not set to any existing DTS or Dolby sound mode, as the AVR will be able to automatically detect the input signal from Apple TV and then switch to Dolby Digital by itself)

Ok. when i take a real look at the content, it is really lacking compared to the US one. So i guess it depends on individual whether the current content will keep you happy for at least a few months before more titles are added. I read that in US there are more than 6,000 titles, not sure if we even have more than a few hundred.

"SINGAPORE: Despite launching with relatively smaller library in the Singapore market, Netflix has promised that more content will be added to its service gradually.

Results on search engine Filmefy shows that Netflix offers approximately 650 TV and movie titles in Singapore, just a fraction of the 5,654 titles available in the United States. In Malaysia, 695 titles are listed, and in Hong Kong there are 540 titles on offer to be streamed.

Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia, a Netflix spokesperson said on Wednesday (Jan 13) that the gradual ramping up of offerings is to allow the company to “better understand what its members want to watch in each region”.

“In most markets, the size of the catalogue doubles in the first year,” the spokesperson added.

For 2016, Netflix said it plans to release 31 new and returning original series, two dozen original feature films and documentaries, a wide range of stand-up comedy specials and 30 original kids series - available at the same time to its members everywhere."

Extracted from Singapore news. We have 695 titles here.
Apparently you can e-mail customer service to request for titles, they may add it gradually.

How do you drive a vehicle?

Hint: Need more specifics.. What devices are being used? Are they officially supported by Netflix? What have you done so far? Does your sound system support DD 5.1? etc... Can't read your mind.

For starters SG ≠ MY. SG also has a fibre broadband "No Contract 1Gbps at $59.99/mth (under RM200)".. This is bolehland and Netflix has barely settled and already the talks of censorship has begun. IMO, I'll believe it when I see it. whistling.gif

I'm using a Sharp 630x with native Netflix App built into its Android TV and optical out to Anthem Mrx 500 AV Receiver with 5.1 speakers.

Just hooked it up yesterday, able to watch 4k Netflix with Maxis 10Mbps, but how do you know which show is able to allow 5.1 ?

That's much better.. smile.gif The DD 5.1 option is available for most Netflix shows or movies. Personally, I've seen or checked over a hundred movies & TV episodes & they all have the DD 5.1 option (works). For testing, you can use any of the Netflix originals like Marco Polo, Beasts of no nation, etc, as they'll definitely support surround sound. Firstly, is passthrough enabled within the TV settings? Also, some TVs have issues with passing through HD sound via optical out, so try using HDMI & the ARC feature. According to netflix, recommended Sharp TV models includes the UD27U, UE30U, UH30U & UC30U. Since you've reported getting full UHD picture on the 630x, then I guess it's supported, just not listed yet.

To adjust subtitles on most Blu-ray players, Smart TVs, and set-top boxes:

Launch the Netflix app.
Select the movie or TV show you want to play.
Select Audio & Subtitles from the options panel.
Select your preferred audio or subtitle options.
Press Back to return to the options panel.
Select Play.
Audio & Subtitles options are also accessible while a movie or TV show is playing:

Play a movie or TV show.
While the movie or TV show is playing, press the Down arrow.
Select Audio & Subtitles.
Select your preferred audio or subtitle options.
Note: If you are unable to complete the steps above, subtitles are not supported on your device.

If you have your Sharp TV already setup to output sound to Optical and your TV is a supported device by Netflix, then whenever you play a movie/TV series that has 5.1 sound, there will be an additional sound option available to select between Stereo and DD 5.1 + (the Language option at the bottom right of the screen).

I got it to work already, tried Narcos at 4k and DD5.1. I didn't have a selection but in the movie title it says 4k 5.1. I guess it's auto detect?

Does your AVR show 5.1? If it does, than everything is ok.

The language option I am referring to is already there from the beginning (somewhere at the bottom right of the screen).

It's just that if you have 5.1 setup, the extra selection will appear within that option, to switch between Stereo and 5.1)

Then again I am using Windows app for Netflix, maybe Android app is different.

Yes the Avr says 5.1. Also the rear speakers are working in tandem with the rest, but I'm surprised am I suppose to get 4k with Maxis 10Mbps?

I think you want to remove the optical cable and replace it with HDMI. Especially if you want to enjoy Netflix's dolby digital plus. And unfortunately optical won't support this format.
